Made in jest but I got to say, 80' and '00 looks pretty similar.*

Also, I'm up to episode 43 on HnK. Awesome overload incoming.

*And yes, I know style vary a ton within decade. Kind of like how I view 90's to be more like Slayers, Gundam Wing, Sailor Moon and DBZ.

Casshern Sins ended tonight on Toonami. Overall it ranges from action to melodrama, but it has the nasty habit of trying to bring a dialogue of life and death whilst losing your attention because the characters and environment do nothing to stimulate it. There is emotion, but it's always in a bitter and unfulfilled pace that you might as well watch an actual drama. Of course, you were probably expecting action from the series, but that too is very underwhelming.

And now Toonami is pushing back Eureka 7 in favor of adding "the not-so-awful, but pretty bad still" Tenchi Muyo GXP. I may not like Eureka 7's male lead entirely, but I loathe GXP as a fan of Tenchi Muyo Ryo-Ohki! and Tenchi TV/Universe.

From what I seen, from screenshots and gifs, its pretty damn moe. It isn't moeblob is it? Saturnine, mind giving me a good summary of the show?

Kinda like how I would describe Girls und Panzer: Literally girls and tanks with a big dash of awesome of singing battle themes as girls do tanky things.

Mmm . . . I'm sure moe plays a factor in the show, but I'm not too familiar with the whole concept of moeblobness. I can't get into shows like K-On, Yuru Yuri or Hidamari Sketch if that helps. So I need a slight more than just the moe. I'm pretty bad at suggesting anime if I don't already know it's widely appreciated, though.

Anyway, there's this thing called "8th Grade Syndrome" which basically encompasses the whole fantastical day-dreaming of an eight-grader. The show captures that by pairing some guy who's trying to escape his prior year's syndrome by joining a new secondary school with some girl who's still caught up in hers. She makes everything part of her magical world (though it actually isn't), and often acts accordingly. It's all very silly.

It's pretty humorous with some over the top scenes that are well... part of our protagonist "8th grader syndrome" imaginative mind. The moe part is not a core factor, there's interesting character dialogue rather than pointless conversations and acting cute. Oddballs hanging out with "ex-oddballs" who just want a normal life and well that's the show.

Old News for Slowpokes

Gurren Lagann is a favorite of mine, but I never bothered with the "movies" because they're primarily compilations of the series with some added scenes. Things is, I didn't realize they essentially made a completely different final battle. Then as I was reading through the differences, I discover Gainax made well sure of showing Nia and Yoko's nipples because you're bound to find one instance of nipples somewhere in a Gainax production.

Thinking, "I wonder if I can catch the subtle slip, haha!" After some amazing mecha transformations and combat, Super Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann appears, and... Well, 10 seconds of slo-mo glowing boobies wasn't as subtle as I expected.

Alright, was thinking about this at work today, but what's up with the trope of finding [naked] girls in containers?

Outlaw Star, girl in giant suitcase

Eureka Seven, girl in refrigerator

Gurren Lagann, girl in waste container

I know there are some others, just can't think of them right now.

Rested and ready to lay into Eureka Seven!

Straight off, I didn't have much of a problem with the series overall for the first 70% of it. Yeah, it could get really melodramatic, but it did make sense for Renton to get emotional for those times. The series follows a progression where everything seems typical, but then of course more is revealed about the world and characters that we've been following. However, it starts to trip over itself because everything that is presented is too much and gets muddled in trying to present any of it in a standard episode while trying to maintain a theme of love.

Deep down there really is a great series, but as I was saying in my status update, there were too many instances of things happening just so things could happen. The theme of love I was mentioning, it takes center stage too often. It gets to the point where every character might as well drop everything they're doing so Renton and Eureka can be together to go through a cycle of crying, anger, and adolescent love. I say cycle because at times you'll have deja vu because somwhere along the line Eureka and/or Renton will go through the same drama.

It makes me wonder if the writers, or whoever was responsible, even remembered what the series had gone over previously. Near the end it's proclaimed that finally the Nirvash was able to hear Renton's feelings, but then what the hell was all that Seven Swell junk in the beginning?! Yeah, in fact, they put a lot on the table and causally decide to leave it to us to accept, "This is what happened, but we don't have a good reason why!" I'm sure there's a trope name for this, but overall it feels like Eureka Seven tried to go big, but in my opinion they couldn't manage all the trimmings for such deep narrative rather than just showing us fantastic animation and scenes.

Oh, and I could not sympathize with the Scub Coral. The hivemind species that was hibernating to prevent "The Limit of Questions," because too much intelligent life will just screw over the fabric of the universe. In any other setting, this entity would be a malicious threat. Yeah, they wanted to communicate, but they were killing off the planet to do so. Dewey was on all accounts a royal dick, but he made it very convincing that the Scub Coral screwed over humanity. Sure, they're intelligent and want peace in some fashion... except the only method they see that happening is by having the humans fuse into their consciousness.

At least Dominic and Anemone turned out well, even if it was bare bones.

I want to go into more, really, but that's about the gist of it. Eureka Seven AO just finished, and I've looked into what I would be getting myself into... and I don't want to go into it. Time travel and alternate universes?!

It's weird to think that a manga is the true sequel to an anime since Eureka Seven received manga adaptions.

I don't know how the Eureka Seven manga series are, but I've read the first adaption which tailors itself off the anime is darker and has a bittersweet ending compared to the anime.

So I started watching Murdertits: The Fanservicing Witchblade since I'm a fan of the comic (well, more The Darkness than Witchblade)...

I don't know what it is nowadays, but I sure get irritated by fanservice. It's entertaining enough, but it is always half a booty hour to Titty o'clock.
