Waldorf and Statler
Started watching Black Cat. It's been 3 episodes and Sven is already the best character in the whole show. edit: maybe I was hoping too much for the show but it started out very promising like a modern Cowboy Bebop and went downhill fast. Anybody have any recommendations on anime with a father/daughter relationship? I've been eating those up since Clementine, Marceline and Ellie. Mal
Rozen Maiden desu. Dolls with daddy issues and for some odd reason they must kill each other to become Daddy's perfect little gir- doll desu. Or maybe it was a girl desu. Either way, this is Pinocchia death match desu. Waldorf and Statler
The more you say desu the more I expect you to say Kawaii. Either ways decided to remove the stick from my ass with FSN and I'm currently downloading the Unlimited Bladeworks movie for 2 reasons: 1. Just watched the 40+ minutes intro episode of Zero. HOLY SHIT. I don't know if it gets lost in the original FSN novel, but FZ is fucking straight up badass great quality seinen anime. Since the original FSN anime follows the Blade route I assume the other two routes are much better since they're more well loved, so I'll give UBW a try after I finish zero and eventually will watch the Heaven's Feel one. Since Sakura doesn't look as unattractive in the anime as she does in the visual novel. Plus seeing these supposed epic battles in actual animation instead of reading "ZING BANG BOOM CRASH OH MY GOD IT'S SO EPIC IT'S HARD TO DESCRIBE" while a shaking image is in the background might be good. 2. I read a somewhat spoiler of who Archer is. Never considered that by only following one path I wouldn't get the whole story derp.No wonder Archer gave such good advice to Shirou. Waldorf and Statler
Finished Unlimited Blade Works. I was hoping it would go more into the intro stuff to see if I could just watch FZ with my friends then make them watch this, but they expect you to be completely familiar with all the characters and what happens in the Fate arc because they diverge quickly and expect you to just go with it, with no character intros whatsoever. I'm glad I ended up watching this, though I still think the Saber x Shiro relationship of Fate is the sweetest out of that one and Tohsaka. We'll have to see once the Heaven's Feel anime comes out how that one is, since that seems to be the favorite. I'm also glad I watched this because the fights ended up being more badass but holy shit what they did to Ilya and Lancer. Lancer specifically transformed from hated character who kind of redeemed himself, to manly tears motherfucker. I still think FSN is kind of.... how to put it nicely..... crap compared to FZ. It's too stereotypical anime shonen stuff. Fate wasn't as much but that just felt like a harem with a cool plot. Unlimited Blade Works, while the fights are fucking superb, made Shiro into TOO much of a badass all of a sudden. What the fuck. That was my main issue with UBW, everything else [preferring the Saber relationship a given] was better, and I assume introductions and details weren't skipped in the VN so I can't hold it against a 1 hour 46 film vs a 3-4+ hour VN. Mal
Holy guacamole, this episode went through a lot of stuff desu. That is why I think it is highly recommended for anybody interested in the reboot to have a solid background of what went down in the previous series desu. With that said, there is going to be a lack of "boku" and "nano" in this reboot desu. At least I have desu desu. Even then... I think there might be a lack of desu desu. This is sad desu. Edit: Actually, they did summarize the WHOLE first manga series before it got cancelled desu. This anime is following the rebooted manga desu. Do you all think I'll get tired of putting "desu" at the end of my sentence desu? Not likely desu! Also best doll in the preview image desu... I don't recall Gin having a ending word desu. Waldorf and Statler
I'm gonna choke you desu I finished the Hellsing Ultimate OVA's yesterday. The show could've been better without the random, apparently necessary in most anime, funny badly animated cutaway jokes. Alucard is the ultimate OP mofo. edit: also that anime, based on the opening alone, might be the line I won't cross into moe/josei territory. Mal
Then you better pray that there isn't a Suiseiseki episode then... desu~ I'm a desu bomb waiting to blow up, if allowed desu. As for Hellsing... Have you looked into the manga? Reading and finishing that made Ultimate that much better.
Waldorf and Statler
No I never read it but my understanding is this followed the manga closely. I might be missing some info but I already have enough mangas on my plate, don't wanna have to read another. And I think I might have now gotten the "DESU DESU bitches" from the Yu Gi Oh abridged movie.
Waldorf and Statler
publisher has uploaded Redline in youtube for free in 1080p. If you haven't seen it yet, do it like NAO. This movie took years because it is entirely hand drawn from what I recall reading, which makes it one of the most visually stunning and eye-orgasmic anime films. English dub is supposed to be damned good from what I hear. Do yourselves a favor and watch it, I personally give it a 9/10 in entertainment. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-MPe7E1YrY4

Waldorf and Statler
god damn that is hard to play with. I'm sure I won't be able to enjoy it until it has controller support.
Mal
After putting in a few hours into it, I enjoy it a lot. The only guys that I cannot take out regularly are the small ones that does the body slam. It is so hard to get to their nape of their neck. Also, Q and E are your friends. It shoots out to the middle. Edit: Also the hit boxes aren't quite perfect either. I know I hit them on the nape of the necks plenty of times. Saturnine Tenshi
I don't know if this has been discussed before, but you guys have watched Mushishi, right? Right? You should if you haven't.
Mercurial
Ya I've watched the first 8 episodes.
Mal
Nigga, Mushishi is one of my favorites. I am still waiting for a season 2. Which reminds me... I recall hearing that there was an upcoming announcement regarding Mushishi. Edit: Nothing solid but the creators are working on a new project, which started sometime last year. With another 4 manga volumes to work with... there is a chance. Edited July 23, 2013 by MaliciousH
Mercurial
Also that attack on titan game is fun, but god damn it those hit boxes are annoying.
Waldorf and Statler
Mushishi.. it's hard to recommend that anime for me personally. It's good and very well done and relaxing, but it lacks in general what I like about anime shows. It's serious/mature plots are good and it doesn't have the random anime staples such as screaming and weird faces. It's like a mature animated film in tv form. Yet since it's an episodic anime, it loses in a major aspect which I'll go over in a second. There's only one episode I recall having any major influence on the main cast, and it's the one that discusses his background thoroughly. Animation is something I can't argue against. While it doesn't have action scenes to showcase how great it is, the art design coloring and stuff in general does not suck. My biggest gripe with the show, which is enough to not put it anywhere near my favorite animes, would have to be the lack of a supporting cast. Other episodic shows like Cowboy Bebop, Samurai Champloo, Trigun, Space Battleship Yamato, heck even Psycho-Pass and GITS: SAC are as enthralling as they are because they not only have a main character they have the supporting characters. Mushishi's decision to only have basically one repeating character, this one being the MC, was its biggest fault. Character interactions and opportunities to expand their roles via their own episode, are what make these shows I mentioned fantastic. Saturnine Tenshi
But Mushishi had the recycled character designs! I am both serious and not serious about that one.
Waldorf and Statler
I can't remember much about character designs since they were all forgettable side characters outside of the creatures themselves and Protagonist.
Saturnine Tenshi
I can see why you wouldn't be happy with it if you're expecting more returning characters, but I don't think being part of modular stories—short stories if you will—would make them any less strong as characters. If done in quick succession like it is, it certainly doesn't lend to them being as memorable since you're going from one to the other. But yeah, the character designs were often reused such that I had to remind myself that these were different characters.
Waldorf and Statler
I don't hold it against the anime as yes, it was a collection of short stories that happened to have the same theme [the mushi] and a protagonist. But it's not my particular style. I feel it works better for a book than it does for an anime. Though I genuinely prefer Aoi Bungaku if I had to choose a short-story like anime
Mal
In the end, Mushishi is a rock solid anime. I'll admit that I was bummed to not have more developed side characters (especially the cripple girl who has to write to keep a terrible mushi to sleep) but I felt the side characters were expanded on surprisingly well for the short amount of time they had. I'm bias but off the top of my head I recall... The kid who can create mushi by merely drawing and his mushi-fied grandma. There was a green sake cup/bowl thing. The kid who had to stay in the dark since his eyes was infected by a light sensitive mushi. Shit get cray-cray during extraction. I believe the "river of life" get introduced here. The river mushi and the girl who sort of lost color. The immortal people due to some funky sea mushi. The prolonged spring/winter mushi and the girl with her brother (I think) who lived with it. She is potentially a love interest since Ginko had trouble getting rid of this mushi and had a really prolong stay. The girl and the sky bungee mushi. I forget what it did to her. There might have been an older mushi-shi who tried to deal with a serpent dragon god mushi. Cripple girl as mentioned above. She is also a strong canidate for a recurring character since she needs new stories about mushi abatement. Most involved killing the mushi but Ginko makes an effort to just send them away, which she likes. Ginko's master/sensei. This one might have involved the river of life itself. I think I got about half the episodes. Sure, I don't know their names but I can pick them out easily. #8 is particularlly important to me since I have a feeling she might reappear in season 2 if it ever happens. Regardless, it is implied that Ginko does go back to some places.
