Question: is there a slice of life anime about a japanese exchange student who goes to high school in the US instead of Japan?  Because I kinda want to see how they think high school works here.

not as far as i know. Though there are plenty of anime with random US foreigners who is a comedic character most of the time.

I haven't heard of one either. I know Saunders Girls High School in Girls und Panzer portrayed an US high school, somewhat. Locker filled hallways is pretty warm but that is the only glimpse there.

I can't emphasize enough how disturbing this is. I like the cutesy comics, but Mikasa dressed as an idol with a body like that, and singing jpop is straight out of my nightmares.

Mikasa is actually ripped.

 

The image that spawned it all though now that I think about it, I'm not sure where the outfit came from. It might have been an adaptation of what she is wearing here. All in all, good fandom material to joke around with.

this anime won me over with such beautiful singing. It's like angels having a beautiful orgy in my ears.

That has to be poking fun at stuff like Haruhi where the VAs sing the OP, ED and any character songs. Some of them are actually really good but its odd to think about when you find out they are kind of trained to be "idols". They have to voice the part, sing the part and look and act the part. Its odd as fuck, especially when they act out of line. Aya Hirano is one of the more notable ones. I personally am only aligned to Halko, Momoi Haruko, the (some say the former) Queen of Akihabara.

 

In any case, I got around to Dragon Half. Simple but entertaining. Up next might be Bubblegum Crisis (Old one), Record of Lodoss War (OVA), Madoka or Sora no Woto.

yeah it's poking fun. In the second season finale he actually sings the ending song and does a good job at it. But this one is funnier because it came out of fucking nowhere.

Three episodes in and I finally understand Urobutcher. Many grave things has been said about him but to see it in action is another thing, especially in a magical girl setting. Saya no Uta, Psycho Pass and Fate Zero I can understand however with Madoka he turns it... I kind of like it and I can see its appeal.

 

Mai mahou seinen, Wally, give it a chance. Its made by Urobuchi man! At the very least I can do an image bribe:

 

 

Don't disappoint me. Its kawaii as fuck.

 

Once I finish the series, I'll give it a final thought.

I've heard too many good things about Madoka to at least not attempt to watch it. I'll be hitting the dreaded "I have nothing new to watch besides upcoming shows" snag pretty soon so I might watch it then. Shame I'm hitting that soon. I mean I've been saying that for a while now but then I find anime I didn't give a chance to before and do so. But this time I can't find anything I can genuinely say I would watch. Clannad is highly rated but the images and from what people say it might not be made for me [overly dramatic].  I see Madoka listed among the top so I'll give it a chance.

 

I also see an anime series called Natsume Yuujinchou listed. Has anybody here seen this series? I see it's highly rated but that doesn't always transfer to a universal appeal or a recommendation from people i trust [sAO was highly rated at one point. Ended up as one of the biggest disappointments I've experienced]. So yeah I'm reaching the point where I can't think of anything I'll enjoy or consider worth watching.

The bribe that I find ridiculously funny every time worked? YAYIFICATION! I think Madoka will surprise you. Its doing it to me. I was trying to stay away from this show on some similar grounds as you... moe. Come on, Madoka has a head as wide as the ones found in Hidamari Sketch and those heads are nutbladder bursting. Anyways, I'm liking it so far but do at least the three episode rule before you drop it. While intriguing, the first two episodes are a bit boring. I'm currently on episode 6 out of 12. If you watch it all, I think I'll tell you what I think at this point.

As for Natsume, I honestly don't think I ever paid even a bit of attention to it. Seems quite a fight to get through since it spans from 2008 till 2012. Easily 50+ episodes. SAO... is special since, from what I've heard, it crashed so fucking bad towards the end.

 

I suggest doing a MAL (Heheheh) and then show it off. It'll be easier to recommend stuff to you. Speaking of which, I need to update mines... its years out of date.

Edit: OH, Clannad is over dramatic. All of Key stuff are. I still love them though... Gao... ;_;

There is no image that represent what I think about Madoka. I'll try my best to state my initial feelings before I hit the sack. Full disclosure, I watched on my TV with the BD rips.

 

I would not call it something I go crazy* for like I did for Girls und Panzer or Rozen Maiden so it isn't even in my top five but it get high marks for being, to me, well paced and well done. Technical animation and sound scores are high since there isn't much for me to complain about. I caught a few snafus but the rest looks and sounds great. Story is kind of predictable but done well enough to be entertaining. I wished they expanded on some characters more but it was fine overall. Some teenage girl angst but that is fine, it comes with the territory.

 

If some of the themes are your thing, then yeah, I can see it gain the popularity it got. I think if I watched it and followed it I would of gotten caught up in it as well. I got a wrong impression from the communities on what was going on. While I had some idea what was going on, it only soften the blow somewhat in what happened.

Overall, I would recommend to most people who are moderately interested in anime.

 

*I'm pretty close to two... or three if you include the mom. _{^{Maybe I'm into MILFs for real...}}

I've been watching corny romantic stuff for the past. Recently watched and loved Chuunibyou Demo koi and that one was cute as hell. Currently watching Hentai Ouji and that one also has the really cute character in the emotionless girl.

 

 

I see that Madoka has movie versions of the plot? Should I watch the anime or the movies? Looks to me like the first two movies are retellings of the anime up to episode 8 or so and the third is coming out October. Maybe I should watch the anime for the sake of it already being complete.

I just finished the first movie to see. I feel while it hits the plot points, I think it would be better to hit up the series. The first movie summarizes the first eight episodes so things get a bit wonky. The second movie might better in that it only summarizes the last four episodes. So far I think the movies are for a "quick" reminder (Two hours for the first) of what happened so it is geared more towards those who have seen the series. Also I think the credit roll hinted at what the hell will go on with the third movie, which is a direct sequel of both the series and the first two movies.

 

I'll be confirming what the second movie has to offer and what it means for the third movie later tonight.

Oh, and I forgot to mention, Madoka (the series) is kind of badass. AND, I want to yell at something but I can't.

Watch the series. Use movies as a recap before you watch the third movie when it get subbed. While the plot points are all the same, I like the pacing in the series better. It also have the added benefit of you being able to stop at episode end.

I processed a bit more and I'm personally is going to ignore Madoka again until the movie. The whole lore is edgy as fuck and quite annoying. Maybe I'm just tired.

 

The way it is playing out right now. We get a depressing ending and junk. How would it be any different from what we have now?

To me it just seem like bad writing... I'll praise everything else but the lore and story. I just don't see it.

Wow. That was the fastest I dropped an anime in ages after genuinely liking it.

 

Kamisama No Inai Nichiyoubi

 

 

Basically if you want to know why I dropped it, just know it's the Kamina effect from Gurren Lagann, only it happens 3 fucking episodes into the show and the other two that have aired introduce all these characters that don't stack up with the badass.
