For fuck's sake, Origa is younger than my mom. Origa singing for the OPs and such helped defined the Ghost in the Shell TV series.
SomTervo
Started watching PsychoPass as a 'passive' watch (stuff I'll watch while wolfing dinner or somesuch, mainly to fill background in my empty flat while girlfriend is away) It's actually really good. Not the most entertaining, but probably the most intelligent anime I've ever watched. Unusual characters (for anime). Very little female objectification/typecasting. A very long form story, with 'monster of the week' aspects which are tied together into an intelligent whole. It's a big mystery sci-fi plot in an Orwellian future. The bad guys remind me very much of Ledger's Joker - which is a massive, massive compliment.

SomTervo
Wow, people sure go to a lot of effort for some really mediocre entertainment Edit: small update, Psycho-Pass is getting better with each episode. An anime with an actual story? With actual progression episode to episode? Wow! Really, really recommend it. PS I don't think there's a single romance subplot. Fucking hallelujah! SomTervo
Just started watching Space Dandy myself. Highly, highly entertaining stuff. Though I think in most cases it's like a poor man's Rick and Morty. R&M covers the same wacky aliens and sci-fi territory, but has a far more unique core concept, far more surreal and twisty episode plots, and I find it broadly funnier every moment. Dandy is great though. Excellent adventure. it's also a little derivative of FEAR Agent, Desparate Dan, and a couple of other western sci-fi comics, but that's fine. It's a tradition. That dub, LP. That dub. *shakes head slowly* Seriously the English dub is fine. There's no way I'm watching it in Japanese and reading the sub titles. Unless it's somehow significantly, significantly better. Which is almost never the case. And a lot of the puns work really well in English. The narrator's voice is flawless, too. PS also a lot of Cowboy Bebop in there. It's like a silly comedy cowboy bebop PPS THAT'S IT! SPACE DANDY IS JOHNNY BRAVO IN SPACE! Edited January 29, 2015 by kenshi_ryden
Saturnine Tenshi
Johnny Bravo in space might work. I think I just liked it for the modular plots, silliness (though not quite Cromartie-level), and animation. I'm four episodes into Shingeki no Bahamut. Surprising how much effort they put into an anime meant to advertise a mobile game. The animation is better than a good deal of the anime that's out there. Nothing spectacular, but still decent. TheMightyEthan
I tend to prefer dubs for comedies and subs for everything else.
SomTervo
I think I agree with that - comedy needs pacing and verbacity (made that word up), whereas in dramas you can easily read away without losing any of the pace. Yeah, Tenshi, the animation is fucking brilliant, great shout on that front. That bit when they go through the wormhole and see the ramen chef. The wormhole animation was... mindblowing. The silliness is also really endearing on the whole. Plus that ending theme. Holy fuck it's amazing Edited January 29, 2015 by kenshi_ryden

Mal
I should get back into Space Dandy. As for what I'm watching. LISTEN TO MY SONG... no, not Macross. Symphogear. I think this might be one that should be watched as it is aired. I'm going to try to gun through this series so I can be caught up for season three. As for oldies, I picked out Lain and Vampire Princess Miyu TV.
OzuJL
Space Dandy was awesome and it left me wanting for more. Especially the later half of the show was consistently awesome. Is anyone else here watching Yuri Kuma Arashi? I picked it up because I like Ikuhara's earlier work, but even by his standards this is a batshit insane series. Saturnine Tenshi
I know someone who's watching it. He talks about it regularly and shares gifs. But I don't really go for yuri anything.
OzuJL
I know someone who's watching it. He talks about it regularly and shares gifs. But I don't really go for yuri anything. I'm only watching it for the director who I like for his fabulous visual style, offbeat humor and absolutely bonkers but brilliant storytelling. His previous work, Mawaru Penguindrum, ended up being one of my all-time favorites although at the moment I have a hard time believing this series could reach similar heights. Saturnine Tenshi
Ah, I've seen several episodes of Penguindrum, but never got around to finishing it. And wasn't far enough in to really come to any conclusion. Happens too often.
SomTervo
Space Dandy was awesome and it left me wanting for more. Especially the later half of the show was consistently awesome. Not sure peeps know this – but there's a second season? It just got added to UK Netflix. I had no idea one was even in post-production. Double the show, WOOOO Most surreal moments ever : watching the episode where they get stuck on that one day, living in a space-time loop. Then a friend texts me and reminds me it's groundhog day... That was fucking bizarre Edited February 3, 2015 by kenshi_ryden
OzuJL
Space Dandy was originally intended to be a 24-episode series, but they decided to cut it in half and air the latter cour a few months later to make sure they can finish the work on the later episodes. So technically it is not a second season even though many like to insist it is a second season. Edited February 3, 2015 by OzuJL
SomTervo
Yes I just discovered this! Real interesting. "Season 2" seems pretty great too. The multiverse episode was seminal. Yes... Emo Dandy. OMFG. Also the VA was done simultaneously in English and Japanese, and conceptualized from the start to have good English VA. Shouldn't be no VA pretention about this series. Mister Jack
New Space Dandy episodes also technically aired in the states before they aired in Japan.
Saturnine Tenshi
Emo Dandy was great. And I don't think "pretension" has anything to do with it on my part at least. I don't mind English VA if it's done well (like, say, Boondocks or Heavenly Sword). Budgets just don't often allow that for anime.

OzuJL
I tend to watch everything with subs instead of dubs because the original voice acting in Japanese is closer to the intention of the original director, but that's just the perspective of a pretentious snob.Even in Space Dandy's case, the dub was directed by a different team even though it was recorded at the same time as the series was in production. I also find it more natural to hear the original language in anything I watch: it feels jarring when a Japanese character speaks English and pronounces Japanese names awkwardly. But that may be just because in Finland dubs are rare (only big budget films primarily aimed for children are dubbed) and we watch everything with subtitles on TV and in cinema. Mister Jack
For me it depends on the show's themes. Most shows I'll watch on subtitles, but the ones that are heavily influenced by Western culture or that are about Western characters tend to be better in the dub. Full Metal Alchemist is an example off the top of my head.
Mal
I have a good feeling about The Rolling Girls. I'm currently two episodes in (currently 5 is out) and it really scratch that itch of having a visually appealing anime. It is also cute girls doing super girl things so that is a plus. In other words, it's quirky. One thing to note is that apparently The Rolling Girls is heavily based on the band The Blue Hearts whole discography. Don't know the band so no spoilers for me but they sound good. Time to hope this doesn't go to shit. I just want some girls on a road trip to find themselves (to become super girls). I also got to mention Junketsu no Maria. It's on my radar right now. You might know it as the anime that actually tries to depict medieval (roughly) warfare correctly. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nCKGJSzpYcs
Mal
I should get back into Space Dandy. And I did. Season 1 last episode. Oh my but of course, being Space Dandy we got the silliness coming back in in awesome fashion. Also Adélie comes back, right? RIGHT!? She's a real QT.
