SomTervo
There are times when it feels like it would be a stronger show if some of the cast were more consistent. Still, great stuff
Mister Jack
Did that remake of Jojo's Bizarre Adventures ever come to fruition? I kinda want to give the series a try but I'd rather not watch some old series that's in standard definition and 4:3 if there's a newer version. deanb
Found out this weekend that you can get a fair few of the Netflix Animes in English. Sweet
Saturnine Tenshi
Haven't been watching much lately. Life's kinda crap and busy. Still mid-way through Shingeki no Bahamut. Mean to watch Patema Inverted. Futakoi Alternative is also in the queue.
Mal
Patema Inverted is interesting and I think it is worth your time. I'm currently going through Mardock Scramble. My smile is gone for good until I get more The Rolling Girls. La la la la. I finished Serial Experiment Lain. It got such a great atmosphere but I'm not sure if the story holds up. Saturnine Tenshi
I think a lot of Serial Experiments Lain went over my head. Edited February 24, 2015 by Saturnine Tenshi
deanb
I started watching Attack on Titan today. Nom Nom Nom.
Saturnine Tenshi
This may have convinced me to try Koufuki Graffiti. https://media.8ch.net/a/src/1424147144645.webm
Mal
Titans taberu-ing humans is not moe. That is disgustingly cute. Cleanse it with ITOKO! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CbD-AtyEYU8 And oh yeah, I recently found out about this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h8julXH_oew It's prefect. Faiblesse Des Sens
Found out this weekend that you can get a fair few of the Netflix Animes in English. Sweet I only like this because the subbing is so terribly done at times I need to watch it in English because it's showing the wrong text. Why do I need to see 10 seconds of a translation of a screen saying "ALERT!" instead of the translation of what the characters are seeing? Seriously fucking awful. They need top and bottom subs. IIRC Amazon does this.
Saturnine Tenshi
@Malicious: I need to finish that. What I watched wasn't half bad. Had too much on my plate at the time. I like the OP, too.
Mister Jack
I watched the first episode of Assassination Classroom. Call me crazy but I have a hunch it's gonna be the next "big thing" like Attack on Titan was.
Mal
Oh good. Mardock Scramble didn't kill my smile for good. I recommend it but be warned, it's pretty dark. I really hope to never really deal with the dark side of society... As far as cyberpunk goes, it doesn't really add to the genre but it certainly doesn't hurt it at all. I find the soundtrack to be pretty good and it fits. It has an amazing rendition of Amazing Grace. Edit: WHAT THE FUCK Originally this OVA/series would have been with Gonzo (eh...) and had Range Murata as character designer. Fucking a man. Yes I am mad for something that happened 9-10 years ago. I need more Murata designs. Edited February 26, 2015 by MaliciousH
deanb
http://www.dorkly.com/post/72486/how-can-you-not-love-anime btw is it an anime thing or a thing specific to Attack on Titan to not have mouths move, and just scenes where it's a painted still (or a paintbrush filter applied to a still) then panned over as people say things. Cos like giving yogi bear a neck tie was considered pretty cheap animation trick, but they manage to do even less at times. Still looks nice, but it pulls me out a bit since I know to look for the "cheap tricks" and AoT does it a lot.
Saturnine Tenshi
All depends on the animation studio, budget, and all that. Also Attack on Titan is all about cheap tricks. Like DBZ-style dragging out scenes for entire episodes.
TheMightyEthan
While I don't disagree, it never seemed anywhere near as egregious as DBZ.
Saturnine Tenshi
Well, I only had the one episode in mind. Definitely not a common thing by any means, but enough that I just couldn't take it. Cannon scene. LET THE SMOKE FOREVER SETTLE!
deanb
Well that's Series 1 wrapped up. Now I guess to wait for series 2 to be dubbed and added to Netflix. I should really only pick up finished shows. Gotta like that FMA:B was all nice and wrapped up by the time I started with it. So, what (dubbed) anime on Netflix is worth giving my time to? I note there's Deathnote, which is well critiqued and I might stick on next. Ghost in a Shell too, which I think is a film so a nice simple watch. I'm to understand Sword Art Online is a bit poopy. Anything about Sidonia (Netflix's thing). The Anime section: http://www.netflix.com/WiAltGenre?agid=7424

Mister Jack
My reaction to that list I dunno, I'm assuming you've already seen Samurai Champloo so I guess I'd say go with Death Note. Kill La Kill was decent too but I liked the first half more than the second and some people are put off by how risque it is. Some folks like Madoka, if you haven't seen that one, but I had a hard time getting into it and dropped it after the fifth or sixth episode. deanb
Okay here's a screenshot (I had to zoom out a bit to fit all on, so sorry if you can't read it all) Edit: I've seen Pokemon & Digimon cos duh who hasn't at my age. FMA:B more recently (Though not on Netflix). Non Netflix: Watched DBZ as a kid, n other stuff seen being Akira and Spirited Away. Other than that, assume I've seen jack shit. Oh and Card Captors (not Sakura, which we found out other day is a slightly different show to what aired in the UK)...and cos my gran had it on VHS (and I think I mentioned this early on) "The Flower Girl" which I'm to understand is super niche. Saturnine Tenshi
I've heard good things about Steins;Gate, but I haven't seen it. Kill la Kill wasn't bad. Ghost in the Shell is a staple. FUCKING SPACE DANDY GEEZ!
TheMightyEthan
Deathnote is great. Sword Art Online is really good too, if you only watch the first 13 or so episodes (which actually do come to a natural conclusion, so you can just treat it like the series ended there). Kill La Kill is good too. The Devil Is a Part-Timer is hilarious, but sadly it's one of those that doesn't really come to any kind of conclusion. Mal
I second the setiment of Steins;Gate. I actually been meaning to watch that. Psycho Pass is a decent one too but I personally avoided it since of Oro Butcher. Kill la Kill is good for sure. Comparing it to Gurren Lagann is unfair and unwarranted. Ghost in the Shell is a must watch. Kotoura-san... don't watch this. It is okay at best and it presented itself as a totally different sort of anime in the first episode. God, the feels in the first episode. Sidonia... yes but it really is supplemental to the manga.
