So, after getting distracted from it for some reason I can't remember, I finally went back and wrapped up Battle Tendency just now. Overall, I enjoyed it more than I did the first time and, honestly, I kinda want to say I still like Phantom Blood better, but when I think back on both parts overall I'm not so sure anymore. The high points in Battle Tendency are certainly higher than those in Phantom Blood, at the very least.

Not sure what to watch next, though. I wasn't planning on going straight into Stardust Crusaders, but after starting the first ep just to watch the OP I ended up watching the entire episode because it was so good. Now I just want to watch more. Also, it didn't even have an OP!

Btw, do you guys have any good Youtube channels you go to for anime reviews and/or coverage? I recently posted a pretty good video about the world-building in the Trails series in the General Gaming Chat thread, and when I started digging into that guy's channel to see if he had other good stuff I realized he mostly does anime coverage. I've been watching through his stuff and ended up adding a handful of shows to my Crunchyroll queue because of it. I'm completely out of the loop when it comes to new anime these days, so channels like this would be pretty useful for me.

So, turns out all that talk about which is better between Phantom Blood and Battle Tendency was a complete waste of time because holy shit, Stardust Crusaders blows them both out of the water. Like, seriously, how is Battle Tendency the fan favorite one when Stardust Crusaders is this fucking good?!

Halfway through season 1, some of my thoughts so far:

-I had no idea that Joseph stayed on as a main character, so that was a really cool surprise. I like that he's taking a mostly non-combat role so far, too. It makes for a fun contrast with his younger self.

-The show is finally living up to its name! Seriously, bizarre is the only way to describe all that Stand business. It becomes predictable once you realize how crazy it actually gets but it's still a ton of fun. I guessed it almost instantly but I still lost my fucking shit at the orangutan with the boat Stand. And then this happened

I mean, what fucking insanity is this?! This motherfucker's coming out of the goddamned wall wearing a captain's uniform like it's no big deal and I'm just sitting here laughing my ass off and wondering what the hell I'm watching.

-Not sure how I feel about Jotaro yet. He hasn't done anything particularly interesting so far and doesn't seem to have much of a personality either. I can dig that kind of protagonist, so I don't really have a problem with him, but after Joseph he kinda has big shoes to fill.

-I'm kinda digging how simple and straightforward the plot is. It's basically Phantom Blood 2: "Dio's over there, let's go kick his ass."

Oh and that OP is SO GOOD!

So apparently the sequel to Dangaronpa 2 isn't a game but an anime to finish out the story instead?  That's a little weird but okay.

You're a bit late on that one, it's already done airing and apparently isn't that great. And it's even weirder than just an anime, it was two anime series that aired concurrently. One was a prequel featuring the cast of DR 2 and the other was a sequel featuring the cast of the original. Then there's New Danganronpa V3, which is a new game that features a completely new cast and starts a new story.

I'm hoping the anime will show up on Crunchyroll now that they have that deal with Funimation. I still need to play that third-person shooter spin-off first, though. I have a Vita copy but it runs like shit and they've already teased the Steam release, so at this point I'll just hold off for that, I think.

Just found out that Crunchyroll has acquired the simulcast rights for Dragon Ball Super. Seems like they'll be releasing the latest ep soon (along with all the eps from the start of the current arc, I think) and will be adding older eps in batches of 10 starting Oct 30. That's pretty good news (and timing) for me because I was starting to look into what the best way to watch the show is.

Looking for fansubs is kind of a pain in the ass for me these days. None of the groups I liked back in the day seem to be active anymore, and the ratings on anidb.info aren't much help in weeding out the shitty ones. So, I'm stuck downloading them blindly and hoping the ones I pick have decent quality subs. Having shows available on Crunchyroll just makes things much easier.

Anyway, looks like I need to hurry up and at least finish the first season of Stardust Crusaders by Oct 30. Almost done anyway, maybe I'll try to marathon the second one as well.

Can I be honest and say, well, I'm not that into Dragon Ball Super anymore. I don't like how it has become the Goku-Vegeta Power Hour. Everyone else, aside from Bulma, stands on the sidelines while Goku and Vegeta become demigods. Yeah there was that "arc" with Frieza coming back where the others held off Frieza's henchmen, but it ultimately came down to Goku and Vegeta again.

Granted that's how Dragon Ball Z felt near the end where if you weren't Super Saiyan, then what're ya doing here? Of course, Piccolo was a serious contender during the Cell Saga too. Likewise, Gohan was the prodigy child capable of harnessing immense power to rival his father. Now he's more focused on his career and family. Very admirable, but at the same time he should have found some time to keep part of his strength. I do believe Super is going to have an arc for just that, but it's kinda sad to see Gohan get torn apart when he use to kick the likes of Super Buu around.

On an unrelated note, Diamond is Unbreakable OP 3 is best Jojo OP.

Yeah, I've been hearing that criticism of Super a lot and I totally get it but it just doesn't really bother me, personally. Never really cared for the supporting cast all that much, so I was fine with them taking a back seat around the Saiyan/Frieza arcs. Although, apparently at one point Gohan

passes out when he tries going Super Saiyan

or something like that? Lol, that's kinda ridiculous considering how he strong was in Z. I like the idea of an arc focusing on getting him back into fighting shape, though, so I hope you're right about that.

Anyway, honestly, I just want to at least get through the Beerus and Frieza Resurrection arcs so that I can get back to Xenoverse and finish the story mode already. I didn't know it at the time but it actually goes a little bit beyond the Buu saga. And considering how poorly the story is presented in the game, I'd rather watch it before playing those parts. Plus, it looks like Xenoverse 2 actually covers Super arcs, so being up to date on the show would be a good idea if I ever want to play it.

Hahahaha God damn it. I got trolled pretty hard by Stardust Crusaders. I'm sure you guys can figure out what I'm talking about. It should've felt cheap as hell but it was played off perfectly and ended up being hilarious. Man, I love this show.

edit: Welp, that's the first half of Stardust Crusaders wrapped up. This is seriously the best part of JoJo so far, it's not even close. It almost feels like a completely different show in terms of quality. Still a week to go until Crunchyroll starts uploading Dragon Ball Super from the start, though. I think I'll just start Battle in Egypt right away. I probably won't be able to finish it in time and I'd rather not watch the two concurrently but I don't really feel like watching nothing for an entire week for no good reason...

edit2: Wait wait wait. Alright, so, Battle in Egypt starts and suddenly

there is a fucking DOG Stand user that joins the main crew?!

I just... there are no words to express how much I love everything about this. It's stupid and amazing. I don't think I can go back to watching normal anime after this, guys. This is too much for me to handle. I think this show might have broken me.

First with Space Patrol Luluco and now Nobunaga no Shinobi, I'm really digging short series. They run for a set time under ten minutes in length. Luluco run for 7:54 while Nobunaga run for 3:34. They're perfect for short stories or some very 4-koma like skits. Also being short means some strategic corner cutting can allow for some better animated or drawn sections. Case in point is Nobunaga in Nobunaga no Shinobi usually doesn't have an animated mouth but the time and money saved from that can allow for some sweet 1's action sequences. The only downside is that their OP and/or ED can take up a fair chunk of run time though. In the case of Luluco's ED, it is really good so it doesn't matter.

Wait till you see what Diamond is Unbreakable has in store for you in terms of Stand Users, let alone the actual Stands.

That's good to know, I'm definitely enjoying the weirdness of it all. Don't get me hyped for Diamond, though! I wanna take a break after Stardust, probably wait until Diamond is done airing before I start watching it.

One thing I'm curious about, though, is the structure of the show beyond Stardust. So far, the first 3 parts have all been fairly different. Is it going to stay that way and keep changing things up or does the show keep the Stardust Crusaders formula going forward? It kinda sounds like Diamond is somewhat similar to Stardust. Are Stands going to become a permanent thing or will they eventually get dropped like Hamon was? They offer so much variety in terms of writing that I could easily see them sticking around.

Hirohiko Araki pretty much realized that he struck gold when he came up with stands, so they stick around from part 3 on.  It isn't the only thing going forward.  One of the later parts introduces a new concept that exists alongside stands which is pretty cool, though it will be a good while before the anime ever gets that far, assuming they even adapt it.  Diamond is Unbreakable is pretty much all about stands.  I will say, however, that the stands and stand abilities get weirder and weirder as time goes on, in a good way.  Araki pretty much uses up all the "obvious" powers in Stardust Crusaders, so he had to start getting creative after that.

Cool. Honestly, so far the weirder Stands have been the most memorable ones for me. Stuff like

the orangutan with the boat (still laughing about that one lol), Centerfold and his mirror thing, the car one, the old lady manipulating corpses, the shapeshifting one in the submarine that ended up trapping them in its mouth, etc.

Hell, even the chick that turned Joseph and Avdol into magnets was more interesting than just another straight up combat Stand. That didn't even feel like a fight but it was one of the few times where it actually felt like they were really screwed.

Also, how much longer do you think the anime has before it catches up with the manga? Diamond came pretty quickly after Stardust ended, right? At this pace, something like what, 3-4 years?

Maybe four years.  Vento Aureo and Stone Ocean are about as long as Stardust Crusaders, give or take a few chapters.  After that, however, the manga switched to a new monthly format, so while Steel Ball Run had fewer chapters, each one was a lot longer so it would probably last longer as an anime too.  Jojolion is anyone's guess.  I really have no idea how much longer that part is going to be going.
