Mister Jack
Every day we don't get a Vento Aureo confirmation a die a little inside. My Hero Academia confirmed season 3 literally at the end of the last episode of season 2. I wish more anime did that. I really like how they're handling this show. As far as I am aware, anime going through seasons like this when covering a shonen manga is a fairly recent thing. Usually they either air continuously without a break and end up having to waste time with a bunch of filler (Dragon Ball, One Piece) or they just flat out end before the manga does (too many to count). This format is just perfect to me. It sucks to have to wait for more episodes, but the extra time means the episodes can be tighter and short on filler scenes. I love it. toxicitizen
Oh, definitely. I'm used to waiting between seasons from western TV, so if anything it's the shonens that run all year long that I find fucking weird. And I'll generally just straight up avoid watching series that I know ended abruptly or had to do their own ending. I'd much rather have a shorter but consistently strong (and faithful) season each year than have it run all year long but with two thirds of it being worthless fucking garbage the showrunners pulled out of their ass. That was a big part of what made me lose interest in big series like Bleach and Naruto (and ultimately anime in general) a decade ago. Mal
Anime of the season is here! Are you all ready for comfy and sadness?
toxicitizen
Just finished My Hero Academia Season 2. It continues to be great and I certainly enjoyed having twice as many eps to watch (even though I ended up watching them faster) but the season was weirdly uneven. First half was great but the second half didn't have anywhere near the same momentum and then just kind of ended on nothing. Going from a super exciting tournament arc directly into a brief training arc and another exam felt like a really weird slowdown going into the second half of the season and things never really picked up again. It kinda felt to me like the sports festival would've been a really strong arc to finish season 1 with and the internships and beyond would've been better as the early season build-up into the next arc. I have no knowledge of the manga and what comes directly next, though, so for all I know this was the most logical way to break it up. Anyway, not sure what to watch next. I still need to watch Attack on Titan S2 but I feel like I need to rewatch S1 first and I'm not quite ready to do that just yet. Crunchyroll have been adding a ton of Funimation shows lately, though, so it's not like I don't have options. It's almost starting to feel like when you're just staring at the hundreds of title in your Steam library and thinking "I don't have anything to play..." Mister Jack
We must all pay our respects to the world's ultimate weeb bird. He even chose 2D over 3D. 2
Mister Jack
So not to distract from the outpouring of love for Grape-kun, which is totally justified, but I just discovered a fan project called One Pace. It's a group that takes One Piece episodes and cuts out the filler and padding Dragon Ball Kai style. If you've ever wanted to get into One Piece but were intimidated by just how long the anime has been running, consider googling it. Trust me, you won't be missing anything by skipping the padding. You may now return to your penguin tributes.
toxicitizen
Today in "shit nobody ever asked for" news, apparently there's going to be a live-action Mob Psycho 100 series co-produced by Netflix. The only response I have is
Mister Jack
At least they bothered to get a kid who's actually Japanese this time. But I'd still rather have season 2 of the anime.
Mal
Seems like Netflix is going into anime production in earnest. If they can pull off more stuff like Castlevania then I am all for it. Seriously, if you guys haven't seen Castlevania yet then you should give it a whirl. Tis the season for demons and vampires. In other things, with Grape-kun's death came the images of Fullmetal Alchemist which reminds me: Fullmetal Alchemist is 10/10, a masterpiece. Will say this till the day I die. deanb
FMA or FMA:B? The latter is certainly one of my top tv shows of all time.
Mal
FMA:B. FMA however has the stronger first bit before the rain. Soon after that, FMA goes off and does its own thing while FMA:B follows the manga which FMA didn't have. The manga by itself is already amazing so you can imagine the hype when FMA:B was announced. CA-53W
I know three main things about anime: 1: They need to bring back Black Lagoon. 2: Goku should have stayed dead after defeating Cell. 3: Launch deserved so much better. Hello everyone by the way. I heard this forum mentioned on a thread about decent game forums on Reddit.

Last I heard, the manga is back so give it some time before we get new animated adventures in Roanapur. That or it goes back on a multi-year hiatus.
Mal
So I finally got off my ass and let go of my prejudices* to go watch Fate/Zero. Just got done with the first episode and so far so good. It been over a decade since I... played the VN so I'm trying to reorient myself with who is who even if I know most if not all the characters. * It's not like I never liked the series or anything. Due to its widespread-ish appeal nowadays, just remembering it's origin just makes me laugh too much. Time to put it aside now and just enjoy it for what it is. Besides, I'm sure we all sons and daughters of whores if we go back far enough. Edit: Season/Cour 1, done... Edit: Maybe I shouldn't have marathoned it... Mal
What you guys think about streaming versus pirating? How do you guys think about the state of the industry? Even though I said I was going to get Crunchyroll sub, I stalled on it due to the dubious benefit to where it matters: the studios that make the anime I like. I actually much rather spend much more money importing BDs than streaming if it means the studios get a larger cut and I can in a minor way affect the rankings. What we have now with the likes of Crunchyroll is that you're paying more for distribution more than anything else. The studio you care about (if their anime is on the service) get a pittance. I understand that distributors should get their share but it feels very lopsided right now. There got to be a better way.
TheMightyEthan
If it's not worth it to the studios they shouldn't license their shows to the service.
MetalCaveman
I don't have a Crunchyroll sub because a lot of the series they have that I want to watch aren't available in my region. The Funimation and Amazon thingies aren't available here either so... I just watch what's available and buy the BDs of series I like. Mister Jack
If your primary concern is directly supporting the original studios, then buying merch is probably the best way. From what I've seen, Japanese studios care a lot more about how much merch a series moves than the actual television ratings.
Mal
I just finished Houseki no Kuni (Land of the Lustrous) anime adaption. It is legit and it is all/mostly CG. Before you run away, I have to say this is probably one of the only times I remember when it was done well. Yes there are some weirdness here and there but some of them I feel works with the art direction the studio went with. Seriously, the studio is great with setting up shots and such. As for the story, it is incomplete since the manga is ongoing but I felt it was good. Yet sad and intriguing. Cute too. So please give it a try. Maybe the OP can convince you. Mister Jack
Fuck yeah! But why is it filed by the manga publisher and not the production company? Is that normal?
