toxicitizen
Yeah, the Funimation thing really sucks. I'm still waiting to see the official list but I expect all the older Funimation shows they've added in the past two years will be leaving. There's still a ton of shows I've wanted to watch that I haven't gotten around to yet, so that's really annoying. It's my own fault for waiting so long to watch them, I guess. I think as soon as I finish MHA S3 I'll go at least finish the first season of Code Geass and hopefully by then the list will be out and I'll be able to choose what to prioritize. Apparently the decision was made by Sony, who acquired Funimation last year. They are out of their goddamn minds if they think I'll sub to a completely new service solely for one company's content. If they remove their series from Crunchyroll, I'll just have to watch them through... other means. Although, I guess it shouldn't be surprising that their gaming division isn't the only one that insists on doing what's best for consumers. /s

TheMightyEthan
I feel like live action anime adaptations never turn out good.
toxicitizen
I can think of one that was actually pretty good. I can't think of another one...
Mal
The Jin-Roh: The Wolf Brigade Korean adaptation that just came out on Netflix is alright. It's practically the same movie with some extra stuff that may or may not make it better. Though, the art direction in terms of lighting and camera shot were downgraded in my opinion. MetalCaveman
Crunchyroll released an infographic with the most popular series for the fall season and... It's a thing, people like slaying goblins apparently. https://www.crunchyroll.com/anime-feature/2018/11/05-1/crunchyrolls-most-popular-fall-2018-anime-by-state-province-country?utm_source=community_cr&utm_medium=twitter&utm_campaign=news&referrer=community_cr_twitter_news Also, they posted a list with some of the series leaving CR after the Funimation thingy: https://www.crunchyroll.com/forumtopic-1025862/update-to-the-crunchyroll-x-funimation-partnership?pg=
jayc4life
I get that it's live TV, but Netflix just announced a live-action Cowboy Bebop. I'm worried that they're gonna make a pig's ear out of it, but I'm cautiously optimistic, in that they've brought in the original series creator in as a consultant, to make sure everything feels right. Thoughts?
Mister Jack
Name one live action anime adaptation that Netflix didn't completely screw up.
CorgiShinobi
Been making full use of my VRV membership lately. Watched all of Asobi Asobase and it's so hilarious. I'll pull up some of the funniest moments on my phone just for a quick laugh. My favorite moment in the whole series has to be the segment where they play Hanako's custom board game which is more of a punishment type game. Otherwise, I've got up with Mob 100 and That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime. For Mob 100, I forgot to watch the rest of it until Season 2 came out, whereas Slime I wasn't sure I would enjoy. Going off of people's descriptions, they kept forgetting to described that Rimuru, formally Satoru, is actually a swell guy and makes life better for those around him. People tend to get caught up in the monster waifus, though honestly I can see why because Rimuru practically has a harem now. The latest anime I've picked up is The Rising of the Shield Hero. Only two episodes so far, though the first is an hour long special. Another Isekai type anime, but this one stands out that our main protagonist, while being a destined hero from another world, is treated so poorly from the other destined heroes. However, the story takes it another step forward and if you don't already know why, definitely watch it first before looking it up. It got some ANN staff butthurt because they couldn't comprehend that sometimes certain people are both shitty and that they lie.
CorgiShinobi
I wish someone gave me a proper explanation of Rascal Does Not Dream of Bunny Girl Senpai sooner. If all you have to go on is the title, the banner/poster image, and a bunch of dudes talking about thighs, it's hardly an accurate description of the show. I did not expect the premise of the show to be about a strange "Puberty Syndrome" phenomenon that screws with reality. I don't like the quantum physics explanations and looking online it seems most don't like it either as they're rather half-hearted in their nature (or just inaccurate). The romance, drama, and humor of this show is spectacular. I marathoned the whole series today. I couldn't help it because the episodes ended on the craziest of cliffhangers. And now I learn there's a recent movie that explains a certain character that barely showed up, but plays such a big role to the plot of the series. Rascal Does Not Dream of a Dreaming Girl, but no word on any international airs/releases. Heck, the Blu-rays don't come out until November 19. Mal
Umm... So this happened. Fire as in arson attack as in pouring gasoline on people and lighting it. It's bad. Forget about the total (?) loss of the studio, people died. Folks, don't take your entertainment that seriously. Be entertained, not do an act of terror because the studio did x, y and z. So yeah... Update: it's beyond bad. Edited July 18, 2019 by Mal
MetalCaveman
That's fucked up, saw some stuff last night but there were no official reports of deaths. Shit.
Mister Jack
I'm a little hazy on the details but from what I hear the arsonist was some train otaku who hated moe anime and was mad because the studio "appropriated train culture" by using a song that's popular with train otakus for some moe anime? Edit: This could be completely wrong. So far the only thing that's been confirmed was the guy was ranting about how the studio stole something from him. Edit edit: Okay so the reason the train thing is spreading is because shortly before the fire happened, someone on the Japanese version of 4chan posted a rant about burning down the studio because they ruined his favorite trainspotting location after one of their shows made it popular with anime fans. This could end up being a completely different person. Another possible motive is that he feels they plagiarized some manuscript he submitted for a LN contest, because witnesses heard him saying something that can potentially translate to "they ripped me off." I guess we'll just have to wait and see. Edited July 18, 2019 by Mister Jack
TheMightyEthan
The American coverage of this has been so bad, most places aren't even naming the studio.
Mal
I mean, it's only the worst casualty event in post-war era Japan. Goes beyond the sarin gas attack. No big deal.

CorgiShinobi
There's more coverage online today for us in the West, but the articles are becoming half-assed attempts to gain more views. New York Times published an article insinuating that the arsonist attacked the studio with a sexist motive, completely glossing over his mental health and recent coverage. KyoAni does have more female employees, but by all accounts the guy was attacking everyone through his twisted logic that the entire studio wronged him. It pisses me off that these news outlets are probably thinking to themselves, "Gee, how do we get more people to view our article? I know, throw in some gender politics and Japanese stereotypes!" Not like they can't be assed to do more research and report on the most recent developments. I mean, that doesn't get the clicks! Just... damn it! I can't believe Reddit and Wikipedia are a more reliable source on this tragedy. Edited July 19, 2019 by CorgiShinobi words
Mister Jack
More details are slowly starting to come out and it's looking like the plagiarism motive is the correct one. He thought the studio stole his idea for a novel.
MetalCaveman
There's been minimum coverage of it over here most of the media is focused on Chapo's trial. 12 hours ago, Mister Jack said: Over here we call that Tuesday. Yeah stuff like this highlights how peaceful other countries are and/or how fucked up we are.
Mal
The day or so was so fraught with rumors that it was utterly useless to report on anything but what came from official sources. Seriously, the rumors drowned out the real facts. With the death of someone in the hospital, the death toll is at 34. Yes, while there are other studio locations, the studio that burned is a total loss. Yes, there is a man and a motive. It's about as petty as the rumors suggested. While I cannot confirm it but the building did have fire exits and such. They were all blocked by the murderer. I also cannot confirm who exactly died. This will take a bit to get all settled. Anyhow, what a shitty time.
deanb
In lighter news I've started on Ouran Host Club. It's quite a silly little show, and there's a fair few familiar voices from FMA which is fun for me. It's a decent satire (though I've not really watched this kind of show before, but stuff like Renge the otaku is quite fun fourth wall breaking). My main *eek* issue with it is around Harohis crossdressing dad and some of the words used, which is odd as it's otherwise somewhat progressive on NB (though also the 'twincest' thing also iffy). It's otherwise quite well paced in going from super silly to some decent character development.
