Been playing DOW2 campaign. Stop for the night with one of hte Defend missions to go to, then I'm gonna get the array then onto Angels Forge.

The Campaign is kinda nice, like the RPG elements to it. But I feel he individual parts of it aren't as story like as the first DOW, which had different tasks and such as you progressed. This one is more like Dark Crusades campaign, which was an Expansion pack so you were kinda fine with it not being so fleshed out (it was mostly a bunch of skirmish maps until you beat everyone) Dow II I guess I did expect more than "land, wipe out buildings n units, head towards glowing star and kill boss mob" Rinse n Repeat. Apart from the defend missions that is.

Gonna do campaign then have a shot at multiplayer. Mostly cos I'll be finished with uni by then.

I think I'll hold off on Retribution.

Also who is the chick on the cover? Looks Sisters of Battle but the game doesn't list them as a faction.

Also I wonder if future expansions will bring the other guys back. i.e Necrons, Tau and Sisters of Battle, maybe some Inquisition.

I'm hoping for something that might reflect the Titan rules. Also maybe a bit of Battlefleet Gothic action (aka space battles)

Also I ended up spending a bit too long on Forgeworld. Not been on there for yeaarrsss....

I love Tau. Not so much on their lack of stationary defense, though.

You don't really need that, since the Tau are fully offensive. Just do a Vespid + Commander rush and you'll win like 90% of the matches XD

I'd get Retribution right now if i had the money >.>

For some reason, i never got into multiplayer with DoW2, played the campaign both solo and coop. If anyone wants to coop just let me know. We might organise some noob multiplayer as well, since it seems not a lot of people here played DoW2 MP XD

retribution is a stand alone expansion meaning you get access to all the races. it also adds the super heavy units (some from apocalypse) no titans but there is a baneblade. retribution campain also lets you pick any of the races though its mostly the same story just told from the perspective of that race (ork pirates anyone? lol). the heroes work totaly different in it too. multi-player is the way to go! i like DOW2 alot because you dont have to build a big base for someone to come wreck up its build some units and go! annihilation is my fav mode but capture points will test a whole new set of skills. last stand is cool too but it gets boring fast. max lvl is 20 then you start over at lvl 1 with a token to give 5% to the leaderboard scores. ill play some co-op but i cant ever find anyone to play with ><.

I played the original Dawn of War a few years ago and really loved it, even though I'm usually not very good at RTS games.

I wasn't crazy on Winter Assault, though, so I never got around to playing Dark Crusade and Soulstorm.

Anyway, I started Dawn of War II recently and I absolutely love it!

I really dig how Relic have done away with base building and have given a more rpg-like nature to the gameplay.

Now I'm all kinds of excited about Space Marine.

And even though I'm really not into MMOs, I'm really curious about Dark Millenium Online.

The 40K setting is just too awesome for me to ignore any game set in it.

Yeah, a trailer narrated by General Zod :D

It's not great, but it could be the start of something good. I suggest looking it up.

As for DOWII. I disliked Chaos Rising. Far to linear compared to the first campaign, but the story was okayish. Knowing of Retribution is does make you feel it's main purpose was to wet the tongue for that expansion instead.

btw FLD I recommend tracking down a copy of Dark Crusade. It's where DOWII takes off from, both in campaign style and the main story. A lot of DOWII story references back to Dark Crusade story line. It's also the best of the original DOW titles.

I see. Damn, I didn't know that. Thanks for the heads up.

I own the whole series on Steam anyway, so Dark Crusade is a simple download away.

But now I have to decide whether I stop DOWII and go play Dark Crusade right away or not.

Can I ignore Soulstorm for now or is it also important story-wise?

Oh and I've wanted to see Ultramarines for a while now! The animation looks absolutely shit, but I heard it's good fun if you're into the 40K.
