Batman Arkham Blank

Batgirl DLC is pretty short, but not as short as the Harley Quinn DLC. I mean, if you don't care about the little trophies that come with it, you could beat it in under an hour. It's basically Batman Lite where Batgirl has some of Batman's gadgets along with his traversal abilities. Her signature skill is "hacking" electronic equipment to distract or takedown enemies.

I enjoyed it very much, though expect some difficulty as Batgirl doesn't hit as hard as Batman. You're going to be pressing that Square button a bit more, not to mention you have lower health, so evade more too.

I beat the Arkham Knight Batgirl DLC this weekend. And by this weekend I mean, in about an hour and a half on Saturday morning. It was pretty good though, but definitely could have been longer. Also doesn't Batgirl drive a motorcycle?? Totally missed opportunity.....

Finally got around to finishing this 100%.

I loved it for the most part, though I'd be hesitant to say it's my favourite of the series. It reaches the highest highs but also possibly the lowest lows. You get the "full" Batman experience, and the ways in which you get to feel like a total badass are immense (particularly when facing the more challenging militia watchtowers and checkpoints). While at the same time, the batmobile stuff is a little too overused and they fucking recycle the worst boss battle in the game. It sounds like I actually enjoyed the batmobile stuff more than most people, though.

Managed to do all the Riddler challenges without help (I thought the colour-word sequence memory thing was going to break my brain, but I actually did it on the first try) and the one I actually got stuck on the longest was... realising I had to fly through the middle of a giant doughnut. :P

p.s. Thanks, TCP, for the tip about using first-person batmobile on that last Riddler course (much needed for nailing the wall ride part on lap 3).

One big gripe was how the upgrades were sorted (or not kept active after City). There wasn't really any logic to it, and I spent pretty much the whole game without that upgrade where special moves become available after x5 combo rather than x8 which makes a huge difference and really would've helped towards the end.

The ending was a little... eh, and I guess it's thematic more than anything. I'm interested to see what Rocksteady do next (I really wish they got to make a ninja turtles game).

That would be so awesome.

My biggest gripe about the ending:

"Gotham needs something worse than Batman."  Doesn't he realize that Batman kind of created all these supervillains, and that bringing out something worse will just exacerbate the arms race?

Given the Easter Eggs and trivia you can find in Arkham Knight and A Matter of Family DLC, all arrows point to Rocksteady working towards a Justice League game. If you haven't played A Matter of Family, the Easter Egg is...

Starro can be found if you pull a grate open in the middle of the map. There's even a poster outside of the room nearby that showcases his origin, or really him smaller, attached to a performer.

Wasn't the rumour that it would be WB Montreal rather than Rocksteady, who are going to move on to bigger, better things?

Originally I remember the rumour was WBM working on a Suicide Squad game. And the fact that the most substantial easter eggs come from WBM's content makes me feel a little more assured about this. Rocksteady seemed quite clear they wanted to move on from this universe.

I'm not sure that's the narrative their following.

Only some Batman narratives follow the 'Batman is the reason the villains upped their game' line, and I don't recall it in any of the Arkham games, bar the Joker who is a one-off case (correct me if I'm wrong on this).

I think the Arkham games take the standard 'Gotham is a really bad place' line, where these high-level crooks would emerge and take over anyway (again, except the Joker maybe). And Batman feels like he's done all he can in the 100% ending.

I don't know how I feel about the 100% extra moment. Really don't know how I feel. On the one hand it worked well, on the other it didn't work at all. They kept it a bit too clipped. It works best as a thematic resolution, a symbol/personification of Batman's legacy rather than a literal 'new Batman' - which I'd prefer.

I believe Arkham Origins sort of followed that line, in that all the chaos was a result of The Joker setting everyone on Batman. Technically, that wasn't part of Rocksteady's narrative, although they do acknowledge it.

I'm also a little mixed on the ending. It's symbolic, sure, but those last words with Catwoman after the Riddler stuff make it sound quite literal. Thematically, it's neat though. There is the question of Joker's legacy but also how Batman should never be forgotten. I do know people are highlighting that, technically, Rocksteady said they were done with "Arkham" games but not necessarily Batman. I really would've loved to have seen a more down-to-earth No Man's Land story which involved retaking territory and really having to be careful; something a little more in the vein of The Last of Us. I doubt if they went with a Knightfall Protocol follow-up, it would be that though.
