TheMightyEthan
Oooh! A hands on! I've been waiting for more info about this game.
deanb
Ah, at least you noted the main bit. Yeah, there was no thread made, thought I'd do one using WTF's style (which sounds much better than "AP style"). Hoping the new info, the Hands-on, would be picked up as the new info to the pile. arbitarty
First heard about this game through these forums, that is why I love this place. I just wish they would release already, can't wait for this one.
WTF
Hey man, Nice thread. I'd totally tag this if I could . Anyways this is one game that's semi on my radar. Less than Amy though.
Faiblesse Des Sens
Looks pretty good although doesn't seem to be as deep as something like Black and White.
deanb
It's coming out 27th July for £20. So yeah that's a nice price. I think I'll definitely be picking this up.
TheFlyingGerbil
It'll only be 1200 MS points (about £10) on xbox LIVE. Is it any different on the PC to warrant the extra money?
WTF
It's a God game, they're better with a keyboard + mouse controls in all honesty. There should be better textures on the PC version considering Live will throttle it's size to under 2GB. I'll wait for a slight drop unless its also physical retail (which it wasn't meant to be anyway) but el shaddai and catherine imports will take my time. :/
TheFlyingGerbil
I'm just slightly surprised that the XBLA version would be cheaper than on PC so I thought it may be gimped in a significant way. I guess it seems like a fairly streamlined game so may be OK on gamepad, but I won't make my mind up until they're out anyway.
WTF
Yeah there should be a steam demo and XBLA demo so you can compare them.
Luftwaffles
http://www.giantbomb.com/quick-look-from-dust/17-4531/ Giant Bomb quicklook looks fairly promising, the controls look pretty good, even on xbox.
deanb
Anyone know if this is coming to steam? Several sites are reporting as such, but Steam itself is largely oblivious to it and it comes out on the 26th. I'm currently divide between getting it on GMG for £10 now, or seeing what it's at on Steam.
Yantelope
On the surface the game looks pretty cool but I just wonder if it's going to boil down to some pretty simple fluid physics puzzles. I'm still interested though.
deanb
For £10 you can't go too wrong. Though I am wondering on how long it could last. Wonder if it'll have option for player made levels.
Thursday Next
Hope we don't have to wait absolutely ages for the PS3 release. Really want this one.
Luftwaffles
Anyone know if this is coming to steam? Several sites are reporting as such, but Steam itself is largely oblivious to it and it comes out on the 26th. I'm currently divide between getting it on GMG for £10 now, or seeing what it's at on Steam. Wikipedia says it is, but that might not be the best judge as the source is only a joystiq article. The official dev facebook says July 27th, but only explicitly mentions Xbox, so PC and PS3 might just come later. EDIT: Did not realize GMGs site said June 27th on the PC. I'm guessing it might just come to Steam that day as well, no preorder. Edited July 25, 2011 by Sporkwaffles
deanb
https://twitter.com/#!/GreenManGaming/status/95525617172365312 Well I think we just found out why Steam don't have it up.
Luftwaffles
https://twitter.com/...525617172365312 Well I think we just found out why Steam don't have it up. That would indeed. It's good for me, though, it means I can probably buy it day 1/preorder with Financial Aid money instead of trying to wait until said money comes in. Thursday Next
Bah, so it will be at least that long till PS3 I bet. L'ame as they say in France.
Luftwaffles
Preorder is now up on steam. And guess what, a free TF2 hat/mask.
TheFlyingGerbil
Apparently it uses Ubisoft's 'always on' DRM even if you buy it through steam?
deanb
I've heard them confirm that it doesn't. But I guess we'll need to see when it comes out since they haven't stated what it does use, only that it doesn't use the "always on" stuff they've used before. Mal
So... great PC port eh? I'm confounded about how bad Ubisoft is at making a decent PC port. I'm not even asking for good.
Johnny
No. I tried it last night and trying to play it with a mouse and keyboard was a horrible experience. It feels like they are just making the mouse emulate an analogue stick. After plugging in the 360 pad it worked better, but the controls weren't very precise then either. To be honest I wasn't very impressed at all during the 90 minutes or so I spent with it. The water physics are cool and just throwing sand, lava and water at each others to see what happens is amusing for a while, but once you start trying to get into the actual game it starts being mostly about moving sand around until your villagers' pathfinding accepts the surface as traversable - which seems to be a bit random - and they make their way to the objective. You are sometimes given a special power that is pretty cool the first time but ends up being pretty boring after a few uses. Jellifying water is pretty neat, but you can't actually DO much with it. Maybe it gets better later, but my opinion could be summed up as: Cool tech demo, shame about the lack of actual game.
