  1. Movies count too, right? If so, I'm going to go back to a classic. My favorite detective is hands down Humphrey Bogart in the Maltese Falcon.
  2. And... done! Portal 2 is out! Can the internet go back to normal now?

  3. Has reached level 111 in Bejewled 2 Deluxe Endless Mode.

  4. All right, time to break my rule about not buying any new games. I've never played this one: http://www.siliconera.com/2011/04/16/final-fantasy-vi-moogle-slamming-virtual-console-in-north-america

  5. woke up at 3 AM to cram for a test. Aced the test, and is now taking the day off from work. Fuck you, world. I'm off for a well deserved nap. I don't care what you do while I'm out.

  6. thinks that this Paul Ryan guy might have a point. At the very least, he's a damn skilled orator.

Ryan is really smart. I liked the line about how "Obama is not building bridges, he's poisoning wells."

I guess I didn't catch that speech. What I saw was part of a hearing on Cspan about the budget. He was far and away the most eloquent person in the room.

  7. All right, I've got some tropes that need to go. We'll start with good must triumph over evil. It is a RARE game that dares to break this mold. The games that break it make up most of my favorites. And yes, we're all thinking of THAT game, but it's too soon to talk about it. Boss Fights at the end of a level. Now don't get me wrong, bosses are great. Bosses make for epic battles and epic memories. However, bosses MUST be mixed into the structure of a game. If there is a predictable pattern, then no amount of story explanation can cover up the fact that you're just playing through a sequence of "levels". Level 1, boss. Level 2, boss. Level 3, boss. Ho hum. My favorite games that had cool bosses at unpredictable moments are Metroid and Gun Star Heroes. Active Time Battle systems. If you want to make real time combat, we now have the technology to do that. No more SNES sprite/processing limitations (which is why ATB was created). If you want to do turn based combat, you can do that too! ATB is a relic of the past, and it's time for it to go. Exception to my rule? FF XII. Cutscene logic not matching up with gameplay logic. Come on guys. The dude runs out in the beginning of Mass Effect and gets shot dead. Once the scene is over, I run out there and take twice as many bullets. I'm just fine. This is a problem. Fix it. Whip/Flail weapons. There are exactly two franchises allowed to do this. God of War in 3D, and Castlevania in 2D. Everyone else needs to think of a new idea. And honestly, Castlevania hasn't made much use of their rights since IV. I'm tempted to strip them of the authority too. Mass murder. It's not ok to have the player commit mass murder and not address the moral, physical, mental, religious, legal, or ethical implications of this. Uncharted, I'm looking at you. Amnesia. I totally understand why it's done, but it's not acceptable any more. Time to go. You'll need to put a little more work into scenario development now. Too bad, suck it up.
  8. figures it's time to come clean. I like Scrubs more than Firefly. My geek cred is gone, and I don't even care.

Well I've never even watched Firefly so hows that for (lack of) geek cred.

  9. suddenly remembers why he doesn't watch TV. Cliffhangers are the devil. I cannot WAIT to see part two of this week's PATV.

I thought Charizard doesn't watch TV because he always to melt them each time a reality show show up.

  10. I have read your entire guide. Twice. Thank you. It has been helpful to me.
  11. Super cute girl at school: "Hey, do you play Magic?" Me: "I sure do! Do you?" Her "Yeah, want to come play later this week?" Result: FML, I need to learn how to play Magic in the next 48 hours.

  12. This is concerning. I live neither in Japan, nor in the EU. Nintendo has traditionally treated the US audiences very well, and I recognize this. However, I've just seen a one two three punch of games I would like to play not launching in the US. These games are Last Window, Inazuma 11, and now Xenoblade. It's still possible that Xenoblade will make it over to US territories. It's even a wee little bit possible that Inazuma 11 will too (not likely mind). And even if none of these games do make it over, that's only 3 games out of the dozens Nintendo launches every year. No biggy. Yet. It's just something I'm keeping my eye on. And none of this would be a big deal if Nintendo hadn't decided to start region locking their hardware again. Not cool dudes.
  13. still loves Pokemon Snap. Predicts a 3DS sequel using AR and looking around. It just won't be the same.

That sounds amazing. I have Snap on the Virtual Console and I still love firing it up every now and then. They could do so much with it now.

I love Pokemon Snap so much. I kinda hope they do have a 3DS version.

  14. Or perhaps on a more profound note:
  15. I had a ton of fun with this game. I feel that the difficulty was balanced pretty well. I think world 1 was a wee bit easier than it needed to be, and likewise I feel that world 8 was just a tad too difficult. World 7 however was a truly transcendent platforming experience. I loved that place - the music, the level designs, and the difficulty were just about perfect. How are you all doing with collectibles? I've cleared every level, and collected all KONG letters. I haven't even come close to completing puzzle pieces though, let alone attempt the time trials. Those times are RIDICULOUS, and really make you appreciate that every level was designed with speed running in mind. It's just another layer on top of all the other layers that were already in there.
  16. just finished Ghost Trick. It is simultaneously fantastic and frusterating. I'm glad I played it though. Definitely more good than bad. A lot more.

I loved that game so much. Plot twists ahoy!

I felt like the ending didn't hold together particularly well. I loved the 95% of the game leading up to that though. Good game, almost great.

  17. 1: That was a great comic. I'm a big fan. 2: Capcom says there aren't any plans right now to bring over Edgeworth 2. This makes me very sad. 3: I think that Edgeworth was a really good idea, and the game was more good than bad. I think that a fusion of Edgeworth's new ideas and the old trials would make for a really really solid Ace Attorney game. Especially since you could change up the playable character. They've toyed with this in the past, but imagine the potential if they really focused on it. Imagine: You build your flawless case as the prosecution, and then smash it as the defense. You play as Gumshoe investigating something. You sneak around as Kay, then investigate as Edgeworth, then cross examine Kay as Apollo. You get to play as Von Karma and whip any/everything. You play as Edgeworth, in a stealth mission avoiding Oldbag. You play as Phoenix and Edgeworth investigating the same scene - and the two characters get entirely different stories from the same witnesses. You build up the truth from numerous subjective perspectives, with nobody knowing everything until the climax. ...and then you tie it all up with a nice corny "people need each other"! ending because that's how AA games always seem to end. And you know what? I wouldn't even mind.
  18. Devil Survivor 2 is announced! Also, I finished Miles Edgeworth! Also, Ghost Trick is awesome! I love today!

  19. All right, here are some really great soundtracks that folks have been remiss in not referencing: The first two Pokemon Generations. Stand out tracks include the rout 24/25 music from Generation 1, and the Trainer Battle 1 theme from Generation 2. The Cave Story sound track, with my personal favorite track being "On To Grasstown" Final Fantasy XII, with standout tracks like "Boss Battle" and "The Salikawood" and "Battle for Freedom" and... god, this is just a really really great OST. Just a few more I need to get off of my chest: Promised Pain - Xenosaga III, Uepeker II - Okami, Confess the Truth 2009 - Miles Edgeworth Investigation, Phoenix Wright ~ Objection! 2001 - Phoenix Wright Ace Attorney.
  20. Dude, you certainly needn't be sorry for guessing wrong about my taste in games. I totally agree that a 3DS Ghost Trick would be great. I think that Ghost Trick could have been a classic if there was more variety towards the beginning, and if there was a Braid like rewind feature since everything's trial/error.

Edgeworth though, that one was almost perfect. The music in pa...

  21. Alright, I've FINALLY played the three games. You were dead wrong about my preferences.

1: Miles Edgeworth (A good mix of innovation and tradition)

2: Ghost Trick (All innovation, slightly unpolished. Deserves a sequel to clean up some rough patches.)

3: Apollo Justice (All tradition, no innovation. Didn't even like the story this time around)

  22. Capcom says that there are not currently any plans to localize Ace Attorney Investigations 2. I am crushed.

Ehhh, no plans never means it won't happen. But if it doesn't, I'll be very sad.

  23. finally has Apollo Justice! Not just owned, but IN HIS HANDS! The goal? Finish it before Miles Edgeworth and Ghost Trick show up in 2 days.

My prediction is that you rank them as follows:

      1. GT

      2. AJ

      3. ME

Lemme know how close I get. :-P
