  1. I second all of this, although i prefer TW3 hugely over RDR. I'm at about 35 hours in TW3 and just getting more swept up in it every minute, whereas by hour 15 in RDR all I could see was cracks in gameplay where 'fun' was supposed to be. TW3 is just blowing me away turn after turn. I'm doing well in Novigrad (seriously first time you arrive there... Holy fuck) and then I decided to go back to White Orchard to tie off all the loose ends. The amount of content in Orchard alone is... Staggering. I'm overlevelled by double but still find so much unique stuff, and have trouble with some drowners. Lower level enemies in a big groups can totally fuck you. It feels so Souls in that way. Don't worry MBM. What I can't get over is the environments combined with the movement. Whenever you just start exploring for exploring's sake, the world is just a wonderful place to be in and move around in. Earlier tody I happened upon a town overrun by Corpse eaters... But only one was there. I looked around a bit more and couldn't find any. It was a weirdly deserted town. Then i saw a flash of red in the corner of my mjnimap. I ride out into the countryside, and the horde of corpsers and nekkers have traversed about 100 yards away, chasing a herd of deer - which led them into a pack of wolves. It was a bloodbath and a huge food-chain battle. I waited for them to finish, decapitate the last two nekkers, then swept up all the deer pelts, wolf pelts, and venom to sell later. What a fucking game
  2. Didn't realise he was in The Warrior, and never heard of Locke. The former definitely got some acclaim for the acting
  3. It would be false advertising if they didn't make it clear that the end product might not look like what they're showing. Which they do in all cases I can think of. They should educate people about how the design process works, really. Eg early trailer/first reveal footage will be from a highly polished vertical slices where there's less to process and render. But I suppose that's not on their remit. Yeah, it's stupid. They should add a quick menu option for your potions, just like bombs and signs. PS game-changer: if you press left and right while holding the parry/counter button, you cycle through your signs on the fly PS game-changer: this game is unbelievable
  4. He's solid in Inception and Mad Max, real good as Bane (even though the character was horribly underwritten in the second half), but he's fucking unbelievable as Charles Bronson. I recommend people watch Bronson if they want to understand why he's such a highly rated actor. I didn't even watch the whole movie, but he's a total pro. He's been in a couple of other little things where he was good too, but I can't remember what they are. Apparently the real Charles Bronson (still in prison) liked Hardy's performance and gusto so much that he shaved off his 'tache for Hardy to use the trimmings of, and called him "Britain's number 1 actor". (That praise is probably too high, though. Hi Daniel Day-Lewis)
  5. Yeah, I'll definitely miss the co-op, especially seeing as this game looks like it's bringing in more systems which lend themselves to it. However, I think it's very important that they're, for the first time in years, putting all their eggs in one basket. Like the amount of work it must have taken to get co-op into Unity... If the co-op didn't exist, and all those resources were focused on the singleplayer game, it probably would have been a greatly improved experience. I also really liked the ole 'who's who' competitive multiplayer, but it never quite had legs. I'll miss co-op, but I think they made the right choice here.
  6. You're not talking about Keira are you? Please tell me you're not. And how late-game is that? Better not be a serious spoiler! I think - but I'm not certain - that to use a Sign's alternative mode you just hold down the casting button. I haven't tested this but I read about alternative modes on the Character screen, then remembered hearing something in an old gameplay demo of the game about holding the button down to do it. Also, people fairly early in the game, watch out for an enemy type which seems really easy but then buffs up with an insane 50hp per 5s power. It's a seriously difficult fight if you aren't bombed up to the eyeballs - the highly damaging flame bomb specifically. Yeah it's amazing isn't it. 'Previously on' has always seemed so contrived, then CDPR come along and just nail it. Is that Dandelion though? I just thought it was a random guy who'll probably become important later. If so, shit what happened to him. He was nothing like that at the end of TW2.
  7. On paper, not much really happens in it. It's simple. But it's all about the execution. Which is oh so great. What kind of films does your boss like?! PS Tom Hardy is a bit disappointing, though, you're bang-on about that, Hottie. His voice is so overdone. It's on par with robot demon Batman. But this is just a normal guy. My gf also couldn't get over his accent. It's half Australian, half American. I accepted it as some dystopian messed up variant, but she was super put off by it.
  8. Yeah, the look on my face when I got a HoW's legendary shotgun last night and saw the skill tree. Cool new perks and no need to upgrade four nodes at the end for damage. This is really nice to hear. Makes me tempted to pick the game back up again. But I'll probably leave it a year or two until they finally make all this stuff free to begin with.
  9. ^ As per my status, yes. Yes. Mad Max is great. My gf was flabbergasted. She had no idea what Mad Max was or how things would go down. We both came out feeling like it's one of our favourites. Also I love the feminist noise surrounding the film currently. It shows you can still make a badass, violent film which adheres to feminist (eg forward thinking and humane) principles efforlessly. A confession: I've never watched any of the other Mad Max's fully. I've watched most of Road Warrior and Thunderdome, but never the whole things. Are they worth a watch? I guess that might be why I liked it so much. I'm so used to the run of the mill slasher shit that I love it when producers mix it up. For example, I loved that there was a reason behind every single murder. There's an actual motive behind every death in the movie. Rather than typical slasher flick "they're psychos, it's just what they do!" For this reason alone it was a really satisfying watch for me and really stood out from other horrors/thrillers. For the same reason, Funny Games (original) is one of my favourite films, and top 5 favourite horror films. But it's basically unwatchable for anyone who's expecting "a good yarn" or "a thriller". Funny Games goes way further than You're Next. It's a total and complete deconstruction of horror and how horror works. No resolution, nightmarish philosophical and absurdist dialogue, really horrific events and terrorism. It's a tough watch and barely entertaining. But as a study of the genre, a flawless masterpiece.
  10. Mad Max: Fury Road. Now there's a movie.

      More like the feminist's Avengers.

      Vecha

FDS, I've see the silly articles going back and forth of MRAs and Feminists.

Sounds like they need a time out and then should hug and make up.

On topic: I need to see both Avengers2/Mad Max(4? 1? Reboot I guess?)

    4. Faiblesse Des Sens

      Faiblesse Des Sens

I barely remember the other Mad Max movies (I think I've only seen two of them) but it totally works as a sequel or not.

  11. Yeah, what's the oh?! In the words of Dean... u say wot m8?? The books aren't bad, don't get me wrong. But they're not well written – and in the most frustrating way. The dialogue is amazing. The characterisation is amazing. But the narrative and pacing is just insulting. Hundreds of pages to get across a couple of plot points. If Martin was a true writer, and not a historian, each book would be 150 pages, max, and would be classics due to the tighter scripting. The actual plot of the world is excellent up until the more recent couple of books, too. Go read the first 10 pages of Titus Groan, The Hobbit, or The Wizard of Earthsea. Then go read the first 10 pages of Game of Thrones. Everything it does wrong rapidly becomes apparent. Even in Groan, where not too much happens in the first 10 pages, it does centuries worth of worldbuilding in those pages, where GoT achieves nothing.
  12. Just wait until it's night time, the wind is blowing, it's raining, and there are cherry blossoms everywhere Omg I think this may just be GOTY, too. Although The Phantom Pain may be a big rival. It's is looking to reinvent the wheel in a similar way, albeit in a totally different genre/style. Looks like it'll have similar level of detail + gameplay polish + story polish + depth. If it wasn't for my RSI, I would probably be more on the GOTY bandwagon. The thought of playing TW3 right now just fills me with distress. That thumb pain is really horrible and hampers my enjoyment massively. I don't want it to become a big problem.
  13. I get the impression that the religious cult plotline works a lot better in the books. Same seems to go for any cultish/uprisingish storyline in the show. The show can pull off individual characters well but not whole movements so much. Really good call. They should have rushed it a little more and presented the hall of faces an episode or two ago, then dropped her altogether. I was really goddamn frustrated when they introduced the "OOH WHAT DO THEY WASH THE BODIES FOR?!?!" then ended the episode with the non-cliffhanger Tyrion getting kidnapped. We didn't even find out until two episodes later. For christ's sake, man. TL;DR: The whole story canon features massive pacing issues, thanks George
  14. Idk, Arya's advanced nicely, Daeni's advanced a little, King's Landing just advanced a lot with Marg's arrest, Sansa's just advanced a lot with the horror It's not all Jon Snow. Though he is having the best of times. You're totally right about Bronn/Jaime though. It's so meaningless. I feel similarly about Tyrion's, but at least there's a lot of peril in that storyline. Mild peril. Welp, close it down folks, thread's finished, nothing more to see here
  15. Yep, you have to go full-blown Bloodborne on the ghouls especially on harder difficulties. Some really super-fast fights to be had. HIT DODGE LIKE THERE'S NO TOMORROW
  16. One of the loading screen hints helps with this. Counters are mainly effective against humans/sword-wielding enemies. Dodging is more effective against monsters. Must be due to their wider swipes and longer lunging movements. Their attack will push past your deflection. This tip really helped me in some later encounters. The environment is so useful and reactive. They really nailed the combat and encounter design in this game.
  17. Every action scene is bad and disappointing. After last week's episode I had to watch an episode of Daredevil just to wash the taste of bad action out of my mouth I feel this season is really solid on the whole, mainly from a storytelling point of view. Every episode we get at least three succulent morsels of character development. Back in season 2 it sometimes came down to one morsel every two episodes, it was horrible, slow plot development with no meaning. In terms of direction, it has become quite a mess. Especially the action. The goddamn action. PS fuck the books, Ethan don't read them and don't trust anyone who says they're anything better than okay. The TV show will save you countless hours and is better in almost every way
  18. From 02:15 That is some crazy shit Edit: some of Nightwing's animations are dodgy as fuck, though
  19. Imo a Diablo/Destiny comparison is totally moot. From what I can tell things haven't changed, and my comparison would be something like: Diablo: - Very fun, well balanced gameplay (start to finish) - Loot drops frequent, always feel like you're progressing, very satisfying (start to finish) Destiny: - Very fun, well balanced gameplay (start to finish) - Loot drops hyper-rare, almost never feel like you're progressing (without 2 hour a day, 365 day a year commitment), not satisfying in the least (after the first 10 hours) The gameplay in both is equally great. Destiny probably even beats Diablo out in pure gameplay. But the time expectation is just insulting. Chopin, I'd recommend not getting it unless it's really cheap.
  20. I discovered recently that low-class enemies (bandits, drowners) can usually be tackled even if they're up to 4-5 levels above you. Level 6 drowners are pretty doable at level 2. My local store broke street date again so I've been playing this since Sunday. Got probably 15 hours logged. (Started getting RSI in my thumb, though, so that's a bummer.) This game is really glorious. It's the first open world RPG - nay, first open world game - I've played where everything feels like it has meaning and place. Every person, every building, every monster (even the randomly spawning mobs). It's the first RPG where I've noticed how believable the things NPCs are doing are, and how they have meaningful interactions even if the dialogue isn't always that great. Also I've never lost my immersion when travelling to/from/during a quest. The game is written to make it perfectly clear why you're doing what you're doing and what you need to do, and what impact this will have. It's not well written in terms of dialogue - though it has some great highlights - but it's perfectly written in terms of game functionality. The combat is brilliant too, although there are a couple of balancing issues for me, playing on Blood and Broken Bones (Hard). There's one fairly early mission in particular where there's no checkpoint for a full 15 mins of tough fights, and I kept dying because I couldn't meditate to prepare more potions. In the end it turned out that Quen, as always, is your friend. World is very, very large. I'm pretty certain the very first area in the game, the intro area (which is fantastic in its own right) is most of the size of Red Dead Redemption, probably larger. The main area of Velen is probably 6-7 times that. And I've not even reached another separate area or the Skellige Isles which look bloody huge on the map. What a true epic. It feels like I'm taking part in Lord of the Rings or something. Except it's actually, y'know, fun.
  21. On my first playthrough, I got Rom on my first try On my second playthrough, it took like 7-8 tries. It was insane. Cane really isn't good against him. Tonitrus helps but not that much. He's such a dick and such a pain of a boss. There are a handful of bosses in the game who plain aren't fun and are just a chore. Amygdala is pretty great, though, enjoy.
  22. You can pick your gender in this game. Well, there are two characters, brother and sister, who you can choose from in open world and many missions. IIRC some missions are dedicated one or t'other
  23. Yeah the rulebook itself actually recommends picking and choosing the rules that work best for you. We haven't properly tried the advanced game yet but it looks potentially brutal. You can change the difficulty a lot, ie how many explosions are there from the beginning
  24. I can sympathise with laughter at the film's contrivances. I think I really needed to relax my mind last night so I fully suspended my disbelief and didn't notice anything overly flawed There were a couple of very minor actual plot holes, but it was easy to let them slide. The window thing being one of the main ones!
