  1. Yeah seems they're just handing them out all over the place.

  3. I'm currently playing Brutal Legend. The design and all is pretty nifty, Schafer really knows how to helm a ship and have a unified "vision". Aesthetics only go so far though, and the gameplay kinda sucks donkey balls. The RTS elements aren't terribad, but they're certainly stupidly clunky and hard to order your guys about, you essentially end up having to get as many guys as you can and just throwing them at pillars until you win the fight at the end. The Stage Battles aren't hard, they're just annoying awkward. It'd be much better to just change the game over completely and have a top down view instead of controlling all your units via the Jack Black avatar. Oh yeah it's also a tease. The game has no jump. But in Stage Battle you can fucking fly. It's open world, to get around you need your car. To get your car you need to summon it. Initiating a guitar hero mini-game each n every fucking time. You can also upgrade your car, and your weapons and moves, by visiting Ozzy and spending Tribute points. To get tribute points you do the main missions (don't get you much) or do the highly repetitive side missions (There's only a handful of types: race, simple fight, turret shooting and mortaring. Maybe others I've yet to unlock) or find collectibles around the map. Fun fun fun. Oh there's also these ranged enemies, but you only have at best a vaguely mid-range attack unless you're in the car, so they can shoot you and you can't shoot back. They lead to most of my deaths. Apart from the times I end up stuck on terrain (did I mention there's no jump in this action game?) I'm gonna see how far I go tonight, then tomorrow I'll be dumping it back in the post to LoveFilm.
  4. If you're wanting SLI the board should say it's SLI-compatible. Obviously you want to make sure the RAM n CPU sockets fit the RAM n CPU you want to be getting. And then it's case of finding one with whichever bells n whistles you want. I think USB 3.0 is getting pretty standard these days. And if you're wanting tons of PCI slots n USB slots that's up to you too.
  5. I guess I just care about the industry more.
  6. 35% off anything here: http://www.logitech.com/en-us/349/7300?pcid=7295 I'm not US so I can't use it.

On the desktop, and this wasn't like the hot corners thing.
  8. So I've not played in a while and thus had to spend a fair while tweaking my settings. Turns out doesn't matter if I lower the resolution or not, so I'm running 1080p like ass instead of 720 like ass. Wooh! God I need a new GPU at some point.
  9. In my experience most of them require you to be logged in in order to use your saves. Go offline, or have GFWL forget it's authentication and poof, say au revour to your saves. I'm sure I've brought up my lovely experience of Fallout 3 plenty of times before now. And there's this from the previous page: http://steamcommunity.com/id/deanbmmv/screenshot/488876173301621132?tab=public

  11. How many people will miss out on the patch though? Once you're past 1.1 the retail and GOG versions are exactly the same.
  12. And the retail version. Steam version is the only one with DRM. @Ethan: http://www.gog.com/witcher2/backup/ (I linked it, along with a few other bits n bobs) on the previous page.
  13. http://steamcommunit...=shortcut_16060 I think that maybe, just maybe, the EE update might be fucked. edit: Looking about this is basically an issue with the EE patch itself, but not necessarily the EE version. So if you use the backup on GOG it should run fine (which I'm downloading now). If you're going to be patching: hold off.

So yeah, going back to an earlier point. There's now no start menu in Win 8 "desktop" app. Oh and best I can tell you need to hit the Win key to go back to the metro Start menu which is a bugger and a half. More pics here https://www.dropbox....dows_8?h=925ee1 (They're the "CP" range of images) edit: Wait for a brief moment a sort of start menu icon (and others) appeared on the right hand side, then disappeared.

There's plenty of tutorials out there: http://www.redmondpie.com/install-windows-8-consumer-preview-in-virtualbox-virtual-machine-on-mac-windows-7-how-to-tutorial/ http://www.zdnet.com/blog/btl/virtually-windows-8-how-to-set-up-the-consumer-preview-in-virtualbox/70330 http://www.zdnet.com/photos/setting-up-windows-8-consumer-preview-with-virtualbox-gallery/6347416 Fairly easy to follow, the only issue is if Windows 8 itself cocks up, which is an issue I had with the consumer preview. Oh and you'll need this link http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-8/iso as the default download link gets the installer that will actually install the thing as your OS on your non-virtual and very real PC. Virtual PC's are also nice for messing about with new Linux version (though so are LiveCDs, and with less of the overheads) and OSX. As well as sticking in XP for those older games.

    Windows 8

Yeah it could go a bit tits up. Though if they do clamp down too much there's a fair few hefty software developers that will put their foot down. Hopefully it remains as is. A large chunk of business rely on being able to churn out bespoke applications and fiddle with the settings, and many of these business are big buyers. If they're needing to splash out on certification and such to make their programs they'll jsut stick to older versions of Windows and MS will end up with an XP situation on their hands all over again.
  17. Anyone wanting to do this again for this year? Any particular months in mind? Still want to run it in June?

    Windows 8

It's very much the Start menu: https://www.dropbox....25ee1#gallery:3 (even says at the top) The Start menu as we know it is now: https://www.dropbox....5ee1#gallery:10 (though these are dev preview not the newer consumer preview images so there may be minor changes since) The part we know as Windows now; the task bar on the bottom, a start menu in the corner, icons on a desktop, is pretty much just an app within Windows 8 now. Metro is the new start menu/desktop. (Also you can run it in a VM Ethan, it's all free to download and try out)
  19. Looking about it seems to be an issue with the chipsets on PCs(specifically Nvidia and AMD). If you have a PCI USB card you could try plugging into that. Also a switch on the back should be in "LS" not "DP" if that means anything to you? Also can try this: http://code.google.com/p/x360ce/downloads/list Which may or may not work.

Err woops. Got that the wrong way around. 1% is what I meant. And that 1% atm is just Office and whatever current Metro Apps exist. It's still Windows 8, so they can't deviate too far away in naming. They can't just call it "Win 8: Metro" cos all the versions run Metro (though Pro not booting into Metro by default might be nice).
  21. Denton has made it pretty clear he finds commentors annoying and don't add anything to the site. Given most of their focus is on ad-revenue, I doubt he'd call commentors worthless if there's an explicit cash value tied to them.
  22. 1. You can now sign-up/in via Steam. 2. I will be updating the forum tomorrow. So expect it to be down. It'll be in the GMT morning so most of you shouldn't even notice.

Yeah, if you have steam you should be easily able to join the forum. Commenting on the main blog, not so much. That uses Disqus, it uses plenty of login options, but Steam isn't one of them.

No. I ended up lying in. Stupid Witcher :P

  23. You can now sign-up via Steam. It uses OpenID so don't be scared of it stealing all your info, you're signing into Steams own thingy. So you can click the Steam icon, then it'll take you to Steam, you sign in (if you're not already signed in) then it'll pop you back to the forum. http://steamcommunity.com/dev If you go to your profile settings you can also attach your steam account to your existing forum account just like you can with Twitter. Also a .1 update should be coming soon (it's out just busy weekends n work n such) so I'll add on what changes that brings as n when I update.

    Windows 8

It'll be running on lower-end devices(ARM may be getting stronger but still not in the league of a decent PC) and have 99% of the software functionality(since atm it's Metro only apps and whatever folks port across) so I'd say "lite" is pretty on the mark. RT is confusing, especially if they're not going to say what "RT" is for. At least in the old Starter/Home Basic/Home Premium/Pro/Enterprise/Ultimate was easy to decipher what they were for even if there was a ton more versions than required.
