  1. Unless you're really into the idea of being able to drop the mouse completely when you want to do so in a living room situation (and it certainly is very cool), the DS4 might not be a big enough upgrade to justify the purchase if you're doing alright with the DS3. If you are motivated by the idea of the touchpad's functionality, I should add the caveat that the mouse icon wouldn't move anywhere inside of my virus software's (Kaspersky) windows when I controlled it with the DS4. I imagine it's unique to that program and or others like it, but it's worth mentioning that mouse control in Windows with the DS4 isn't absolute. It seems to be nearly so though, with quick taps working as a left-click and a touchpad click working as the right-click. Double tapping it a bit clumsy, but what can you do. I do find the touchpad control via Inputmapper to be seriously cool, personally. As far as the controller itself, while I'm still getting used to it, I'm pretty sure that I like it ever so slightly better than I like the DS3. If you are a person who is annoyed by the DS3 triggers for the direction of their arc, or the analogs because you find that your thumbs slide off of them easily, this is certainly a solution. If you're happy with the DS3 though, I'm once again not sure if this area of improvement all on its own could justify the upgrade. Those two points together might be more persuasive, of course, if you find them individually persuasive. The giant light really is something to consider though. I could see this driving someone up the wall. Fortunately I got to forgetting it was there most of the time, but it can be a distraction. Hope that helps!
  2. Wow, this DS4-on-the-PC stuff is fantastic aside from the gigantic, glowing triangle that keeps reflecting off of my TV. Even that got a little cool once I realized that it was acting as a battery-life indicator. I was also a little shocked at how short of a distance the dongle and controller were able to effectively able to communicate across, actually... Past that though, I have to say I'm really digging it. Being able to use the touchpad as a mouse is especially useful, and unexpected too, which made it that much better. Positively sublime. I'm still getting used to the controller itself in a couple of ways. The share and option buttons are pretty awkwardly placed compared to their DS3 counterparts, and I'm still accidentally clicking the touchpad when I try to pause at times. I'm sure I'll get over it quickly. For the purpose of taking quick screenshots, the placement of the PS button definitely makes things more awkward than the large, centered home button on the Logitech F710. I'd gladly give up this speaker (that I'm sure I'm going to find obnoxious when I start playing PS4 games) in a heartbeat for a larger or higher-placed PS button. This thing also seems to drain fairly quickly. I was annoyed at having to use batteries with the F710, but the recharge had to come so infrequently that it wasn't much of a problem. I feel like this controller doesn't seem to last as long as a DS3 when it comes to needing a charge though. I'm not positive though, and it's only been like two cycles. All this shit is minor though. I feel like I'm driving a Cadillac of controllers on the PC, which is a pretty big step up. Feels good. Thanks for the advice!
  3. Yeah, that's a long one. It gets very intense and para-diddly on drums at some point during the middle to boot. Definitely a rough ride at first. *edit* Oh crap, I just listened to that Selecter song for the first time in many, many years within the last month or two. Pretty wild coincidence.
  4. Woah, how did I not notice that correction? Fair enough haha. Also, I meant to bring this up a couple of days ago. Better late than never though. There are still two days left in a DLC sale for the 360. And some days before that I forgot to mention that the Wii-U isn't necessarily written off the release list for RB4. It probably is... But hey, make your voice heard if you want it.
  5. Great, thank you both very much for the help. I was leaning towards grabbing a DS4 so as not to share my remaining (good) DS3 between both devices, so Input Mapper is definitely what I'm going to go with. It sounds like it's not too much of a hassle, and while I didn't have customization in mind, it's good to know that it's available on some basic level, as I've encountered the occasional game that inexplicably locks down certain aspects of the layout. I've got a white one (so as not to confuse it with the black one that I will have when I eventually get a PS4) on the way along with a bluetooth dongle. The F710 is a valiant effort, but I'm excited to have (what I expect to be, given the fact that I liked the DS3 a lot) a more fit controller to pc-game with.
  6. Does anyone here use a Dualshock 3 or 4 on the PC via a bluetooth connection? I've been getting by well enough on my Logitech F710 for the past few years, but I'm finding it harder and harder to resists the temptation to get a Sony controller on there, despite my desire to keep things "official" for troubleshooting (and for avoiding the need to troubleshoot). I would prefer some basic software/driver that simply makes my PC think that my DS is a 360 compatible controller, but it seems like none of the options that exist are quite that basic. I noticed that there are hardware adapters out there, such as CronusMax and ConsoleTuner Titan, as well as software solutions (InputMapper). I just wanted to know if anyone who has some experience can make a recommendation, or can speak to the ups and downs of a particular method(s). Any help would be appreciated.
  7. For you Lego-game guys: Is there a particular one you recommend I snag on this Steam sale? Should I just go with whichever source I'm most familiar with? I'm thinking Marvel Super Heroes so far.

Marvel Super Heroes is rad. Its the only Lego game I can actually say was a good game.

Is Batman 3 as good as Marvel? Because I want more and I'm getting impatient.

  8. I actually kept that term and definition open in my phone's browser for like a full week back when I learned it, just to make sure it was committed to memory haha. What's weird is that I don't think I've referenced it by that name even once since then. I have used the term whataboutism though... It just happened to be more appropriate for the context of the discussion(s).
  9. It looks like a Guitar Hero title might have been leaked, which I would find about unsurprising as I do annoying. It's totally possible that it's a coincidence, but I wouldn't be surprised to find out that it's just timed to steal some of the very little momentum that the return of RB will have. I could end up being wrong (assuming this leak is accurate at all), but I suspect that the next GH release won't be as much of a respectful and careful attempt to bring back a once-popular formula with some dignity as it will be a new skin on an old game. That being said, lots of people have spent $ on GH libraries, and it's definitely great that they have a way to carry them into the next gen. I only wish I could import GH libraries into RB games... Tool... Mars Volta... damn it.
  10. Son of a bitch... I just bought myself and a friend the original Katamari Damacy maybe 3 or 4 months ago.... Oh well. Great flash sale though, I'll certainly snag a couple of things.
  11. There really isn't a sadder group of bitter and confused people than the ones who look for controller support threads so they can take a giant shit on them in the Steam forums. I'm sick to death of these motherfuckers already.

Some games just don't reasonably qualify as candidates for the support, some are marginal, and others can be done without question. In all three cases though, you will find plenty of people on Steam who can tell you that it can't work, the devs don't want to do it, you're too lazy and should just use kb/m, go buy joy2key and finish programming games yourself, you're trying to turn PC into a console, etc... It's like fucking Groundhog's Day in those threads.

Mass Effect is fucked. I was going to begin that trilogy on PC if not for that. I still have a boxed copy sitting here doing nothing. Anomaly 2 is pretty fucked too, as they eventually released a console version after saying they would add controller support on PC, and it (the PC controller support) never came. The prequel had full controller support on PC too, so a lot of people bought it expecting some controller love. I even asked a dev at PAX 2013 about it, and was totally blown off with...

blown off with assurances that it was coming soon. Coincidentally, it's their (11-Bit) new game, This War of Mine, whose controller support thread saw me squaring off against the stupidest of the fucking moronic this past week. I mean uniquely and impressively stupid... Stupidity the likes of which one would have to hunt for to perfectly fill a reality TV show slot.

I've added it to my wishlist, so I'll take a look at some point. The premise looks interesting, and the art style reminds me of Fable which is always a plus for me.

Yeah, you might want to wait for a sale. It was over in about 3 hours for me, with a "to be continued" to close the curtain. It's a decent title, but could have been a bit longer than that.

I've heard the combat isn't too great?

Sale it is, along with Ori. I'll grab Hotline Miami 2 though.

  12. Yeah, I think the majority of people who were into it are over it permanently. At least to the point of buying new editions for their own use. I, on the other hand, have been looking for an excuse to break out the Ions. The announcement alone got me putting a couple of sessions in, just out of excitement. It's pretty pathetic how out of shape I've gotten... My leg completely gave out on me during a couple of tunes (I believe the one that hurt the most was BYOB), and I just had to twitch my way through a couple of sections. Pretty demeaning. On the other hand, I came within 500 points or so of my Two Princes high score, so not everything is lost. Plus this happened last night with some random dudes online when I decided to see if anyone was playing: Very easy song, but it's still cool when that happens.
  13. They're taking requests! And in case any of you wiseowls are thinking of yelling "Freebird!" at them, it's already done, so
  14. The whole game plan is in here. I'm still digging through it.
  15. Oh yeah. It look like the keyboards won't be coming back, and neither will pro guitar. The guitar and drums will be getting some slightly improved re-releases as well, the latter of which went un-detailed in the Polygon interview. The libraries will be mostly exportable within a console family, and I can see from the comments on that article that it's going to be a bit of a problem for some, as a lot of people jumped ship from MS when going on to the next gen. I get the feeling that that's one issue that will simply have to go un-addressed, as I can't imagine a way that would enable users to transfer their content over from one family to another. I'm just psyched for a new library, personally. Also this means that I won't have to keep holding onto my PS3 once I'm done playing games on it and move on to PS4. Eventually.
  16. Why, Johnny Ringo. You look like somebody just walked over your grave.

  17. Hi. I'm Fred, and when I post on a topic it's usually a month too late and /or tldr. Welcome.
  18. I hadn't heard it until now, great call. On that note, about a half an hour before I posted that one, and while coming home from work, I had just silently thanked you (as I do every time it comes up in my shuffle) for putting me on to this one: I especially love when it comes on while on the road. It's one of those tunes that automatically puts me about 10 MPH above what I would normally be doing on any given street or highway.
  19. There is a pretty solid Square Enix sale going on in Steam. I can't wait to play Sleeping Dogs a third time...

Oh crap I didn't realize there were new replies. Thanks so much, it really means a lot! It was such a recent decision and drastic departure from my original plans, and so being so fortunate as to have encouraging people around is doing a great deal to ease some of the apprehension and doubt. Even the warnings of the market =)
