  1. Never finished the first one either. Some of the later levels are just fucking impossible Like the one that has you removing blood clots and cleaning and suturing lesions all at once? Even when you do the pentagram time-slowing thingy it is nigh impossible.
  2. After starting it six months ago, I finally beat Persona 4 yesterday. Easily some of the best characters ever, and now among my most favourite games. Even though the battle system is what differentiates the Persona games, I think they need to make some changes for the next game. By the end of Persona 3: FES I was tired of battles. It was often so much easier and faster to take care of enemies myself in a single turn, so by the time I got to where I needed the SP for abilities, I was out or there was a significant dent in SP. But I believe the need to go to Tartarus to make sure your party was strong enough by the next full moon was what caused me to get tired of battles when I did (too much grinding). With Persona 4, however, I only had to go into the TV twice (and sometimes once) to save the next victim. I never tired of battles and could get back to bettering my character or social links sooner. The tradeoff was that you could never do another activity when you got home. Sometimes I wish I could just stay up and study, regardless of whether or not I got sick (like in P3). With the combat being much the same, but less often and a little easier for the most part, I think Persona 5 needs to make some changes or risk stagnation. I heard most players thought the plot seemed to weird out by the end, but I didn't find the good ending that bad. The true ending, however, seemed a little out of left field.
  3. Other than setting some traps and using the environment to your advantage, there wasn't too much that separated Bioshock from other shooters as far as gameplay went, I think. I love art deco, so I found the design compelling and I think that was a part of the reason that kept me going to the end. But during the entire game I was brooding over how much content was carried over from System Shock 2, and recalled all the interviews I read about how it was dumbed-down to be more like an FPS.
  4. The PC. I had maybe one dropout during my entire play of the main plot and all other DLC, but the Arrival was just a mess.
  5. I spent several months playing Morrowind and the expansions, but I couldn't give a number of hours. For recorded hours of play, it would be FFXII, at +155 hours. Persona 4 has over 170 hours logged, but I used the leveling 'cheat' for about 18 of those hours. From all the times I died and the time I'm putting into the True Ending, however, it could have more actual play time than FFXII.
  6. It was an admirable addition, but Mass Effect looked far too ahead of older sci-fi films to consider using a film grain. It looked more like static on the screen anyway. If they had a filter that replicated the haziness of old sci-fi film cinematography (Logan's Run, non-special edition of Star Wars, etc.), that would have been more interesting to try. And I'm going to take this opportunity to say that the Arrival DLC has been the buggiest experience I've had in a long time. It dropped out on me almost a dozen times during the last stand, interactive HUD icons (doors, lockers) were showing up through walls, and sounds looped when using biotics on enemies. It was still a good way to wrap up the game, though. And I was weirded out to hear Admiral Hackett in person instead of garbled through FTL comms.
  7. Huh, I thought Chrono Trigger and MGS3 would have been a little higher than they are, but seventh is still a fine spot. I don't think Half-Life 2 will make #1. If I remember correctly (I'm not checking), Ocarina of Time had three #1 votes, so I won't be surprised if it lands that spot in the top 53. I'll still rage just a little, though.
  8. Maybe I'm missing something here, but what PC games have required the user to pay for a patch, and why do you think PCs should be exempt from paying for DLC? When the PC gaming market was stronger, there were developers releasing expansion packs at about 1/2 the cost of the game (more or less). What is DLC but an expansion pack in bite-sized chunks? Having said that, however, I am aware that some developers don't handle DLC so well or even take advantage of customers.
  9. I grew up a PC gamer, and it was through emulators and demos that I got into the Final Fantasy series. I gradually shifted into consoles a little more when I heard the news that Square would only be releasing FFX on the PS2, so I bought one. Things were great for a while during that console generation, when there was a bit of a balance between console exclusives, PC exclusives, and shared titles. Then along came the current generation of consoles... Now, I stick to the PC if a game supports it, but I might be rethinking that for certain games. There are a few titles, usually third person, that are optimized for a gamepad and turn out to play atrociously on a PC. I shouldn't have to fiddle with video settings to reduce mouse lag. I hate that every entertainment industry has been Hollywood-ized, which is partly responsible for the developer shift to consoles. I don't hate consoles or dedicated console users, but their preferential treatment has me pulling out my hair when their lowly console filth contaminates what could otherwise be a glorious PC experience.
  10. Alternatively, if you have a really clean NES, you can leave it running overnight. But if you're a kid and on a shared TV, I can see the lack of saving being an issue if you couldn't find the flutes.
  11. Just passed on a chance to own a TurboGrafx 16. Should I be feeling regret?

    1. Yantelope

      Yantelope

I would be. I need one of those and a sega saturn for my collection. How much was it?

It was $13 without a controller or video hookups, but it had Galaga 90. It was at Value Village, so there could be a lot more stuff for it that they haven't put out yet.

    3. Mr. GOH!
  12. Since I know it will be included now, I will add my list here. I normally hate lists like this because I think its silly to compare games of different genres, but these lists are personal, not objective. 1. Chrono Trigger 2. Loom 3. Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater 4. Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 4 5. System Shock 2 6. Final Fantasy VI 7. Thief: The Dark Project 8. Shadow of the Colossus 9. Silent Hill 2 10. The Elder Scrolls: Morrowind 11. Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney 12. Katamari Damacy 13. Final Fantasy Tactics Advance 14. Demon's Souls 15. Doom II
  13. I've taken this test about three times before for various reasons, so I know I'm an INFP. I've changed a bit since taking it last, though, and that influenced the results by just barely pushing it into an ISFP (89/1/38/22) result instead. Some questions are very vague or depend on other factors, so guess I'm I(N/S)FP.
  14. I saw Thor on Friday. Anthony Hopkins was excellent as Odin. This was the first time I've seen a 3D optional film in 2D instead. The stylized action sequences on Bifrost were confusing enough on their own, but they were made worse with the odd perspectives that made it obvious they were optimized for 3D. I have to remind myself that I'm watching a superhero flick sometimes. When the suits got involved and they were driving Acuras, I thought, "What? The American government wouldn't drive imports, even if Acura styling totally looks the part." Then there was mention of Stark and S.H.I.E.L.D. and I recalled the Marvel universe. The only other creative decision I didn't agree with was the modern looking make of Asgardian armour, which gave a look of medieval times with machine shops. During the film I found myself wondering if 300 created a quote with as deep an impression in pop culture as Star Wars has. The two times that the line, "This is madness" was used during the film, I could hear people quietly saying, "No, this is Sparta!"
  15. ...maybe? Sorry, I'm only looking at the features in more detail now (quick glance, little sleep, etc.). I might be thinking of another program.
  16. While on the topic of passwords, didn't Lifehacker once feature a secure program that remembered your passwords for you?
  17. Bumping because a deluxe edition has been announced and can be purchased here The PS3 deluxe edition is already sold out on Amazon.ca, just a few hours after being announced, and those sons of bitches at Amazon.com won't ship to us Canucks.
  18. Seriously considering repeating 7+ hours of Persona 4 because I messed up the Naoto relationship.

    1. Saturnine Tenshi

      Saturnine Tenshi

Naoto is worth it, by far. Those other relationships? Nothing.

7+ hours will be nothing when you look back, it'll be fun!

Yup, now I just got to the point where I have to beat Heaven again. I didn't really feel like watching the Culture Festival and everything between until beating Heaven all over, though.

  19. Statues Oh right, those were statues, weren't they? I never thought the tentacles growing in or out of their faces looked like a part of their anatomy, though.
  20. I'm suddenly imagining a storyline where the Protheans that fled to the Sol system encased the Charon relay in ice as a means to escape the Reapers. I could maybe see them working in some human/prothean link like that, too. I interpreted the tentacles as being a part of what encased them in stone, or whatever the hell that is. The tentacles could be growing out of them or into them and may not have been a part of their anatomy, I think.
  21. Day 39: I couldn't say what had the worst multiplayer since I never play online, or locally for that matter. Day 40: I can't remember if Morrowind clocked your time playing but I'm sure I've spent the most time with it, since I played through the main quest and the expansions with one character. And looking at my memory card for clocked play time, I thought I spent more time with Persona 3: FES, at over 130 hours, but it turns out I spent over 155 hours on FFXII.
  22. BZZZZZT! You got Elcor and Hanar mixed. I would be disappointed if Tali's face was shown. The fact that you don't see her face is one of the things that draws so many people to her, I think. I'm not sure its something they can do and please everybody, so I think its better left to the imagination.
  23. Age of Empires III complete pack when it was 10 cents on GFWL.
  24. Day 35 - Scariest game was Silent Hill 3. I played each SH game in the dark after the rest of the house was asleep, so the mannequin storage room in the mall scared the living shit out of me. Day 36 - I think its turning out to be the Witcher. It was on sale on Steam, I heard some good things, and its an RPG. It just took me 6 straight days to download, transfer to a playable PC, and then it wants to me to update the game by downloading half of it again. Then I hear it has the click-once-and-watch-it-die kind of combat that immediately made me think of Diablo. I haven't played it, but it is causing me too many headaches that I regret purchasing it digitally. Day 37 - Hardest? I don't think I've got past the first level of Revenge of Shinobi on the Genesis, same with Ghosts 'n Goblins for the NES.
  25. Day 32: I guess I just play solitaire to kill time. The rest of the games I play require more than a half hour. Day 33: Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade Day 34: I can recite all the sword fighting insults and comebacks from the Secret of Monkey Island.
