  1. shingeki no kyojin is good but if you want pure ridiculous weirdness go with Valvrave and eruerufffu. I mean it's the dumbest shit I've seen in the past 24 years but damn you sunrise if you can't do action scenes well. Gargantia is good. I'm actually waiting on JoJo season 2 and the whole Stardust Crusader saga! Devil survivor 2 is iffy at the moment. Majestic Prince is similar. As for attack on titan it's the current guile's theme. I was away but I did see this last month. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Nix45lxcSQ

Ethan is correct. I meant VM (Virgin Media) have a deal with TiVo so they wouldn't really care to have another deal with Xbone. However yes the Xbone does need a separate box for TV. It's just Sky and Canalplus might just do apps.

Actually cable companies here wouldn't use it as set-top box either. Youview which is what BT has been pushing into homes has already publicly said they won't be partnering with Xbone. While Sky and Canal+ will, however it might be an app rather than a set-top box. Similar to what was mentioned before if you're on satellite TV it works with a coaxial cable. My sources at VM tell me they're not interested in Xbone due to their whole TiVo deal. Sky is actually losing customers in a way which is why they separated pay TV from their satellite services. In fact they probably will work on the same principle as Sky Go. In I wouldn't be surprised if what Xbone has is just SkyGO but fancier than the 360 version. People are into instant TV and VOD. The market for 'cable' and 'satellite' is shrinking outside of the free ones.

This whole power of the cloud rubbish. They really don't know what they're talking about and I'm talking from the engineering perspective. It's like Redmond is Jonestown and everyone else looks on at how they're being indoctrinated to the 'powah of the clowds'. We aren't at that stage where you can just do your CPU processing heavily on the cloudside for media-heavy applications. Also Sky, Virgin Media, BT and such get huge margins from these boxes. I know this personally since I have a client from one of the former CIS nations who manufactures these boxes and they actually do extremely well. Satellite boxes are quite profitable. Insurance on satellite boxes is also a profitable market. It's not going anywhere soon. In order to cement their boxes as movie delivery services they are providing better HDDs so as to support their own VOD stores. They aren't in the streaming position as yet, primarily because streaming solutions are currently controlled by 4 or was it 5 major companies. I had to do this as part of research since there's a project I'm consulting on. Google Play and AppleTV didn't lift off as cable boxes. Neither will the XBone. The living room isn't where the battle is headed- cable providers and telecom firms know this and are trying to combat it in different ways.

    UK Politics Thread

Woolwich isn't a place you'd want to live in. Not saying this is in anyway condonable but Woolwich, Tottenham (where the riots began) these aren't areas you want to be living in technically. People are still in shock over this. I mean honestly no one is really reacting to this apart from shock and abject horror and to some extent apathy. We know this isn't common and it's weird. Most Londoners went about as if nothing happened. I think after a lot of events here - people are willing to wait for investigations and such before you point fingers. Unless of course you're the EDL or UKIP or something like that.

He is right sadly about the US market. The less spoken about how atrocious US Telecom companies are the better. The infrastructure runs far too deep to be uprooted right now.

It's to do with perception. COD is available on all platforms but people associate it with the 360. Do that with Madden and a bunch of other titles it could work. There is some amount of brand loyalty. Perhaps a few moneyhats here and there to get DLC first. It is extremely kinect focussed is one reason why I'm unlikely to get it until I move elsewhere or my flatmate moves out since I don't want something spying my bedroom activities...

@Goh Honestly all I hoped was that it wasn't much of a Ballmer-machine. I knew it was pretty much going to be this. In fact I spoke to my friend from Texas a few weeks ago and told him that MS was going to doubledown on the US market (which it probably did), Nintendo focusing more on handhelds and the Japanese market with Sony trying to focus on EU and MENA. with PS4 being more likely to be better than the WiiU (while Vita flounders) and possibly a closer second in the States. However I feel that it is quite likely that in the states it'll be a lot closer this time around and perhaps they might even gain ground. The new PR company they've hired is actually fairly decent. Nintendo just needs a healthy release schedule but it's likely to be a gamecube with a shorter lifecycle since focus will be on the 3DS which is doing well (it's fine to have one product do well and one do bad). MS uh if it doesn't do too well in the States - I suppose there's Iran and Albania based on those stupid tweet votes.

I just realised that a lot of people have been calling it XBONE on forums and that tickles me a bit. Crossbone? Mainstream media are gobbling it up but with articles that seem to have been written the day before and there's a lot of rubbish in those articles too. I am curious though, is the living room that important these days? I mean many of us don't even keep TVs in our living rooms and many people I know don't even care for TVs. With an increasing less TV focussed world is it really that wise to chase a relic from the 90s? I'm an adult and my living room doesn't have a TV anymore (bedroom does but eh) but it has plenty of books sofas and shelves. It's a decent living room but that's my personal focus. However the number of people who tell me they don't have a TV keeps rising. In all honesty don't really look heavily at the stock markets (Buy on rumour, sell on news). SNE is rising because they do expect improvements. While the gaming department of SNE might be happy you can bet that the suits would be a bit concerned if this takes off with the non-gaming market from the get go. Ideally if we could predict markets we'd say go with the core crowd, get into living rooms and home areas and then gain mindspace and marketshare. But that's not how it works all the time. From a gamer's point of view, the XB1 isn't a great thing. 3GB is being used by the OS leaving 5GB for games as opposed to the 1GB for OS to 7GB for games. Let's not even bring DDR3 and 5 into the equation or the moderately better GFX card. Apparently Kinect is integrated to the point they see no reason for a headset to be included when compared to the PS4 (it's included). These consoles aren't going to be on a 3 year lifecycle so some amount of futureproofing would be nice. I can buy both with no issue, but I'm not keen on a sort of anti-consumer device. I mean this is definitely against used games and sharing games - it's not quite on the same level as Steam - it's like lets take most of the bad things about PC gaming but not all the good aspects. I found it amusing that Gamestop's CEO was about as surprised as the consumers. The rumours were more or less fairly accurate. Also what was the deal with XBox support literally contradicting what their VP said? I mean seriously, you don't contradict the executives like that on twitter. However dedicated servers, that's a good thing. No more P2P. Though is that enough? So moving forward there's no backwards compatibility on either machine. I'm surprised that the video interview basically made it seem like they don't care about it at all. I mean it is true, most of us don't give a shit but I think our purchases of HD collections have proved that we don't give a shit. I just wish that the way the market was heading to was a bit more positive than voice controls. I'm done with sound and light circuits ever since I had to study them at uni. I suppose all I can say is thank you based Dog? I can now see your battlescars. Side note: The world is changing alright. I can see why smartphones really do take off. It's because of lifestyle changes. Urban populations grow faster. Cars become less essential as time goes by we can see that. Living spaces become smaller, living rooms become less important as well. I think in order to see where entertainment media goes we sort of need to look at where our lifestyles are heading. I'm not saying home consoles and such are dead but they do need to take less space.

http://majornelson.com/2013/05/21/xbox-one-and-used-games/ Well it's now confirmed that it's basically like a steam account on a closed platform that works on one OS (three if you want to be anal since Xbox One has 3 OSes). If you want your friends to be able to play the games you have you need to be signed into your account. Otherwise pay the fee. I wonder why their support went rogue for a while. Third console curse. Yeah it's real.

The thing I see with the console is that I'd love it if I lived in the states. But I don't. It's continuing down that path. US has a lot of content on Live. UK has content albeit lesser than the US. The rest of the world has pretty much shit. The whole entertainment box focus definitely goes after that. It's really not going to change much. US is the biggest market for the Xbox brand - there's no point wasting money in Japan. As for Europe they hope FIFA changes things but I dunno - it's just one game and one year. I'm not one who buys EA's unprecedented partnership or any third party's unprecedented partnership. Hmm back when I worked in advertising we weren't asked to go with singular titles for products with multiple users. No conclusion was jumped to on my account "Microsoft did say that if a disc was used with a second account, that owner would be given the option to pay a fee and install the game from the disc, which would then mean that the new account would also own the game and could play it without the disc." This is definitely going to be an interesting scenario for used games. If you want to play used you will have to pay a small fee or maybe the rental company takes care of that. However for anyone sharing a game between accounts this is a pain. This is something they printed that MS told them. So there you have it. Edited to add: Now this might be an assumption but based on what was told, it seemed that all games had to be installed onto the HDD so this in a way is preventing multiple users from accessing the same game. It's similar to steam. Edited to add again: It's confirmed. http://www.computerandvideogames.com/407912/microsoft-confirms-pre-owned-fee-for-xbox-one/ Basically each game has one activation. DRM.

Well 8 new ips can be anything. Remember gunstringer, blackwater and all those other kinect titles were also new IPs. If they're not willing to show more than 1 new IP - it either means there's more kinect IPs or they're so further back that it's not ready to be shown. Meanwhile PS EU's twitter has been interesting --> https://twitter.com/PlayStationEU/status/336831952927748096 https://twitter.com/PlayStationEU/status/336906035967164416 They have been a bit cheeky. Google adwords, the tease yesterday. It's fun. I'd like some corporate brawl on both sides. It's fun.

So with the kinect thing, how many different accents can it detect. I hate to sound weird but there are certain pronounciations even within a specific language that can give it trouble. The biggest drawback of the reveal is it's purely US-centric minus FIFA. I'm sure the BBC has something planned for it (because of earlier rumours) outside of that....yeah. The name isn't confusing. It's just a weird choice to name it 1. There's no synergy to use the term they'd go for. I mean One isn't a lifestyle number. It's a solitary number. You don't try to bring the perception of a solitary thing to a household that requires people to connect. Besides always kinect and online. It literally does not approve of used games and if you want to use the same game on another account apparently you need to pay a small fee. Rental services will be so happy to hear about this -.-

This is a suit presentation. So far it's been an overall Meh. And I was willing to be excited by this. I mean seriously i was hoping for something outside of Halo TV show and a Remedy game. 8 new ips. It could be anything from atrocious crap to excellent stuff. If they're not confident enough to show more than one ip that says a lot. You don't need to show all 8. Just 2 or 3 would be enough.
  18. It is fun though to destroy someone's entire world view when one feels particularly nihilistic. Fortunately I don't get that way often. I have done it a few times. Not something to be proud about but sometimes it is fun to argue when you have rationale backing you. However when someone is that stupid and ignorant all you can do is laugh at them if they continue to argue pedantically over ignorfmation. Most get the idea that there's no more point in a discussion. Of course one doesn't do this to someone who argues with logic and reason.
  19. I haven't used a chat up line in a while. I will say this. I do get fairly annoyed by the 'wink.wink.beckon' approach that I get a lot from girls because I just want to enjoy my drink on some nights. I'm glad that the bar/club days this time were short-lived. I agree with Revanchist, you need charm. Actually there is such a thing as awkward charm too. I look a lot younger than my 32 years and as a result when we go out in groups I end up being the one to go invite them over. Sometimes my friends send me with the worst pick up lines possible which they'd like me to repeat verbatim. -.- This makes me feel incredibly awkward but it works because ugh it just does. Whoa wait. Necro thread? abort.
  20. If your opinion is I like Strawberries more than Lemons that's fine. Buy as the article suggests if you're going to bring up a philosophical, ethical or moral standpoint they better be prepared to defend it logically or rationally. I've no qualms in being ruthless to someone who decides to fight a losing battle. It is better to say that you don't know about something and bow out with grace rather than argue over something you know very little about. I have little patience with such people these days. Unfortunately people aren't always that smart. By you, I meant one. Not you MJ

  24. I only have one problem with stunningly attractive 18 year old can I choose what I mean by stunningly attractive or is it randomly generated stunningly attractive cause that's a major flaw since there are stunningly attractive women I have no desire to sleep with too. But I'd cut down to $5M Get the girl, stock market, camera, kitchen and gun. I'll probably be able to get the 10M by the time I'm out, have a profitable documentary that just needs editing and a cookery show. No matter what I'd make sure that those 10 years were worth it in terms of money. I can also dump her post-event If I dropped the girl I'd get the workshop, computer, games and healthcare. I'd still have human contact with my stockbrokers and doctors and that's enough. I'll make my own music with the damn computer Plus I already have the money which I can invest in secret too if I decide to use the workshop to build something to get myself out of there. I don't really see how having the workshop and stockmarket basically doesn't give you the chance to get the hell out as soon as you want. I mean you'd have lathes, welding tools and other industrial equipment lol.
