  1. Welp I saw it last night at the midnight showing. It is good. Very good, even--a big, booming, epic sci-fi with an amazing score, great visuals (consisting of a combination of understated CGI and practical effects), a thought-provoking plot, and some standout performances. It wasn't perfect--there's a sense that none of the threads or themes really end up coming together satisfactorily at the end. And there's some cliche moments. But overall I've missed this brand of sci-fi and am glad Ridley got to make it for us.
  2. http://www.joystiq.com/2012/06/06/luigis-mansion-dark-moon-will-also-launch-digitally/ Quite the shift for Nintendo.
  3. Django Unchained. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6nB_MXNrI8A
  4. It's an interesting take, and I think it's plausible given that nearly every major event in the book has been foreshadowed in a very forthright way--though we don't always pick up on this until a re-read. AFFC/ADWD spoilers This kind of stuff is all over the place, and it's certainly possible. I could still see her maturing and things going the other way though.
  5. I had a feeling some sassy British person would say that... four copies of Killing Floor off GamersGate. $5 today. EDIT: Grabbed FC2 off Steam. I don't think I'll have much time for it, but it'll be a nice mess around game if I have a few spare minutes here and there.
  6. At least they'll finally let you charge while you play. Batteries have been a headache on the Wii.
  7. Far Cry complete pack (Far Cry + Far Cry 2 + DLC) is $5 on Steam today. http://store.steampowered.com/sub/2863/
  8. I can't see what Ethan linked above, says "unavailable". So I apologize if this was posted already, but here's a dev walkthrough though: Part 1 Part 2 I hope the game opens up a bit, but the nuts-and-bolts gunplay and such look solid.
  9. Yeah so: Pikmin 3 -- A+, very interested. Great graphics, some of the coolest actual gameplay we've seen at E3 so far. Scribblenauts -- A, color me intrigued. New Super Mario Bros. U -- B, looked cool gameplay-wise but still old assets? Arkham City -- D, old hat. Cool controller implementation. I may get it if I haven't played it on PC by then though. Mass Effect 3 -- C-, still old but a massive franchise gain for Nintendo. Again may play on Wii U if I don't cave and play on Origin first. Wii Fit U & SiNG -- No score. Casual stuff, not the target market, don't care. ZombiU -- B-. Has potential. Could be lame. Lego City -- B+. Lots of potential. NintendoLand -- C+. Minigame collection. As a pack-in it could do miracles for the system's sales. As a retail title it'll fall flat for me. The gameplay demo was really awesome though. The 3DS section had some good stuff as well. Overall a decent conference, but no killer app was shown. Hopefully they'll reveal one before launch, or it could be a slow start at retail.
  10. I hate memes as much as the next guy, but for Nintendo's conference: my body is indeed, ready.

Give me Zelda in HD, Nintendo!

And an achievement system. For fucks sake!!

Also release a black Wii U at launch. It will go great with my play PS3, 3DS, and Vita.

Also: while I know a Mario sidescroller is incoming, please don't forget a proper, 3D Mario.

How about a new Donkey Kong Country? That last one was great. A new Metroid, maybe with the gameplay of Other M but without the writing.

  11. Bought this for $8. Based on the title, tagline, and cover, I'm going to make a wild guess that Ripley is resurrected in this film. Shot in the dark here. Also bought season 6 of Seinfeld for $12.
  12. Yeah, it's bizarre how many "feminists" take issue with the oppressive culture of Westeros. The creation of an unequal society in fantasy does not equate to an endorsement of that sort of system in the real world.
  13. Remember they pack as much action and "cinema" into these E3 demos as possible. So hopefully it emphasizes more of the strategery parts in the game. Anyway, I need a PC or WiiU release I suppose before I can get too excited.
  14. Wish there was gameplay footage. When will these companies figure out that CGI trailers do nothing to show us what a game will be like?
  15. Looks like CSGO will come out August 21 at $15. Notbad.jpg. Anyone have a good time with the beta so far?
  16. So, my thoughts on the final episode: Very good, but a step down from Blackwater as expected. It tied up all the loose ends it needed to, and it actually finished ahead of A Clash of Kings, closing with the prologue of A Storm of Swords. More spoilery commentary through ASOS Prologue/ Season 2: All in all a good season, maybe not quite up to the first in terms of book faithfulness and writing, but very good. Blackwater was a new high water mark for the series.
  17. Maybe mention before the spoiler what book or episode it spoils through.
  18. Liked what I saw today. Look forward to seeing more this week.
  19. Saw Snow White & the Huntsman today. It's surprisingly not terrible, though it's very straightforward and predictable. Visuals were nice, Charlize was great, Hemsworth was great, Stewart wasn't awful. Worth a rental I'd say.
