  1. You guys have parents that watch comic films? OMG... my parents NEVER in a million years would watch anything that isn't straight-laced drama.
  2. Who were Adam and Eve running from in that vid though? I think the Templars are the descendants of their overlords.
  3. I just got my issue today. It talks mostly about gameplay. A grapple hook-hidden blade device is used a lot for flying down zip lines and grabbing enemies. You can customize your own bombs; supposedly allowing hundreds of different combinations. The game starts with Ezio making a pilgrimage to Musayaf -- 300 years after we last saw in AC1. The portions involving Altair and Desmond sound briefer than I expected. It does not look like the game is equally split among the three main protagonist. Instead, their missions are more like small side missions. Desmond is trapped in an animus-coma, between the white-colored animus world and the new "dark space" of the animus's safe mode. Basically, he's a bit like Neo at the beginning of the third Matrix film. Here, the player gets a glimpse into Desmond's back story as we play through his subconscious. It sounds like the game really revolves around one major location -- Constantinople, like Rome in AC:B. Sure, there are other minor locations... but not really. Despite being 50, GI describes Ezio as being at the "peak" of his skills. That was all that I read that was interesting. There wasn't anything there to make me feel like I was mistaken in my initial reaction to the game. But, it does sound like a solid game with a sliver of story to uncover. I'll rent or buy it on sale, but no pre-ordering for me.
  4. I think coloring his plasma energy to make it more visually connected to Cyclops is a wise choice. I wouldn't be surprised if the newer comics eventually didn't follow suit.
  5. Wolverine is a cool character and he does deserve a certain amount of spotlight. The problem is that in terms of the total amount of screen time between Xmen 1 - 3, Wolverine winds up gobbling up attention at the expense of other great characters and stories. I don't think it was meant to be that way. I think Singer intended the third film to focus a lot more on Cyclops and Jean. Seriously? What are you basing that on? Just so you know, this film (and it's impending sequels) are the closest you and I are getting to a Magneto origin story. I'm pretty sure the film spends at least some time showing the origins and meeting of Xavier and Magneto. X-fanboyism aside, I believe this film will be good. My only concerns are: - It won't be commercially successful because the advertising is subtle and humble in its approach. There's not a lot of explosions or gratuitous sexuality. The whole thing has a European vibe that tends to turn off American summer movie-goers. The 1960s are "in" right now due to the success of games like Black Ops and shows like Mad Men, but will those audiences be interested in this movie? - the obvious romance appeal to younger women. I read a while back that one studio executive was pushing for the film to be more like Twilight and to go after that audience. Some of the marketing definitely appears to do just that. Overall, I continue to be hyped. Showing the rise and fall of Xavier and Magneto's friendship will be epic.
  6. sup Playstation peeps! ...uh yeah... so word has it PSN won't be back until the end of May. http://www.gameinformer.com/b/news/archive/2011/05/09/report-full-psn-service-at-the-end-of-may.aspx Yeah I know
  7. I haven't seen any other sites posting the story, which makes me question it. My friend and I have been talking about this for weeks. He insisted that Activision just has to release a Call of Duty this year. I said I wasn't sure; that all their legal problems and internal developer shifts could have forced them to shut down and re-tool for a year. I predicted they might release a massive Black Ops update -- something like Call of the Dead -- instead.
  8. Playing as Ezio over 50 is a real stretch of the imagination. Few people in those days reached that age without major illnesses and ailments. Far fewer -- if none -- reached that age and could still do parkour and leap to the ground from building rooftops. It would be interesting if Ezio's weapons and tactics changed with his condition; relying more on recruited assassins and projectile weapons. Heck, by the end of AC:B, all I had to do is raise a hand in the air and my assassins did all the work.
  9. My cat's never been the type to go after people food. But just now he went crazy on some red velvet cake crumbs that fell to the floor. Interesting.

oh... yeah. He's okay. It was just a couple small crumbs.

  10. I think I should mention here that Valve responded to my complaint about the beat-up poster. Someone at Valve personally sent me a replacement; opting to send it directly via USPS. The replacement still is a little worn in parts, but a major improvement from the last one. I'm still not sure if I'll frame it now or not. This is frustrating. I've been trying to collect gaming art, but it all has to be found and purchased online, and it frequently gets fucked up during delivery.
  11. yeah, unfortunately I'm pretty sure they intend to stick to the events of X3 and Wolverine as much as they can. It's a bit of a bummer, but these new films will probably revolve mostly around lesser-known characters or ones created in the last 10 years. I have hope though. A romantic subplot with Magneto could lead to Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch in future films. All doubts aside though... seeing those blue/gold uniforms, that young-looking Beast, the old-school SR-71 Blackbird.... it all gets me pretty excited. My brother and I saw X-men 1 - 3 in the theaters together (a rare tradition for us). He's also a big fan of the 1960s and the Cold War. When I showed him the trailer for First Class he went nuts. So it looks like we'll dust off our old tradition and see it together!
  12. There's only so much distance to take. Most of the plot elements of First Class have to conform to the casting/script decisions of X-Men 1, let alone the third and fourth films. When you say you want them to distance themselves, what exactly do you think they should do? I totally agree about Wolverine getting too much face time. Most X-fans agree with us there. That's just one of many reasons I'm hoping the new films are better. The focus will be on Magneto/Xavier more than anyone else, and I have no problem with that. I don't think the X-men films have been treated too sorely by Hollywood. When the first X-men movie came out, comic book films weren't "in" yet. In fact, it was due to the success of Singer's X-men that all the other comic films were able to get the green light. By today's standards, the first X-men had a very low budget. But by the standards of the time, the budget allotted to them was pretty decent. Remember that prior to Singer's X-men, the only other really commercially successful comic film(s) were Batman (1989) and Superman (1978), and those franchises also eventually jumped the shark... you'd think execs would've remembered that when they were choosing directors and drafting budgets for the third and fourth X-films.
  13. Well... maybe. I don't even think it's fair to consider "3" and "4" as part of the movies, because they were studio-hand-offs. The first two films -- the Bryan Singer ones -- are the only real X-men movies IMO. That's partially why I'm psyched for First Class. It's produced by Singer and the current film definitely imitates Singer's work. A live-action Syfy series would be good if it was taken very seriously like Battlestar Galactica; 45-minute shows, good budget, and don't go beyond four seasons. The fact is that not all X-men stories/characters are good ones. The more you put out there, the farther you have to dig into the vault for lamer material such as the Shi'ar. I think it's better to contain it within carefully-planned and executed trilogies that focus on the core themes of the franchise.
  14. I just found this via Spike's page. It's a character vignette for Havoc (aka Alex Summers.) http://www.spike.com/video-clips/b5ug3e/exclusive-trailer-from-x-men-first-class-havok It's a good video, but a bit spoilerish. I think I'll be refraining from future vids after this.
  15. I don't see what PS3 consumers have to do with it being more pro-RPG. PS3 has plenty of brotastic games, and is home of the single most brotastic game ever made: God of War. Many PS3 owners -- especially a couple years ago -- would tell you that RPGs (particularly JRPGs) were a key selling point of the system for them. Look, I'm just trying to stay optimistic amid the otherwise grim news. There are a lot of possibilities when they talk about an expanded market. What about motion control? What about 3D? What about a tie-in to some DL-only arcade title? I don't want to jump to the conclusion that ME3 is now Halo just yet. I've already had my moment of doubt (see negative rant on pg. 7, post #140) I'm done being negative. I'm going to have faith about Bioware.... for now.
  16. I saw an image of who appeared to be Altair juxtaposed with who appeared to be an older, bearded Ezio. Again, I straight-up read that the game features an older Ezio in Constantinople. My guess? The game features chapters with both characters (and Desmond) in that location and others. EDIT: http://www. gameinfor...revealjune. aspx -- oh, there you go.
  17. For the record, Ezio Auditore is a great character, but I also feel like it's time to move on. There's two major problems: - The consumers (apparently) want Ezio. Ubisoft went and had a poll allowing gamers to vote for who they'd like to see star in the next AC game. Guess who won? Ubisoft is a business in the middle of a recession like everyone else. Choosing another time period and protagonist is a quite a risk. - The main creative force at Ubisoft Montreal, Patrice Désilets, has left the company. In his absence, it seems Ubisoft can't think of anything to do but milk his previous work.
  18. Another Assassin's Creed starring Ezio this November? In terms of a consistent creative direction, that franchise has jumped the shark. I feel really guilty for buying AC: Brotherhood now.

Also meant to say- this is nothing like the CoD milking or the old Prince of Persia milking (after Sands of Time). I've found these games to each be actually unique, and pushing the quality envelope constantly, so I'm really fine with it.

Even the multiplayer in AC:B was great. Took a different mindset, but it worked well, in the story and as a game.

yo kenshi, we have a thread for this too: http://tay.gappoi.org/topic/1120-assassins-creed-revelations/page__pid__49640#entry49640 so you don't have to get cut off and stuff, lol

Good call, I just looked at it and thought that! I'll copy my arguments over.

  19. More or less. The main events such as helping Liara are there, the nuanced choices are not "canon." That doesn't mean all the DLC is important to the story or worth your money. If you're only going to choose a couple, I'd go with Lair of the Shadow Broker and Arrival.
  20. When they speak of a "larger market," they may be referring to the PS3 consumer. In that case, it may be pro-RPG. The bad news seems to have drowned out the release of two images -- one brand new, the other from the GI issue. That top one is SciFi-sexerrific!!!
  21. I would have guessed Skyrim to be the one delayed. Hopefully, it'll just be one of them so that I can concentrate my play time on one or the other.
  22. Lol, he quoted the pledge of allegiance for his closing line.

  23. so I know I'm late to the party, but I just got my copy via Gamefly. Am I mistaken, or is this game way better looking than previous Valve titles? Source was the shiznit back in 2004, but ever since I've found it pretty tame. But I've been frequently impressed by Portal 2's graphics. How were they able to make them so much better?
  24. Because you're a bit of a pessimist? Calling out an obvious trope is being pessimistic? That's news to me. Retcon doesn't take much work. Also: I didn't say it wasn't a trope. It is. That's why it would suck if Bioware did it. Thus, making a negative prediction about Bioware = pessimism. Am I missing something here? I guess if that's what they reveal in ME3, then it won't be pessimism, but realism. But for now we can only positively or negatively speculate, right?
  25. Remember my status update about really bad tornado weather? This was the same storm, just a couple states over:

the odds of being in the path of a tornado are quite slim. Dying in a tornado are even slimmer. Most tornadoes are only F1-F3, which won't kill you as long as you've taken adequate shelter. The one in that video was an F4. F5s are rare, but nearly impossible to survive if hit head on.

I've lived in the southern edge of Tornado alley my entire life. Only one tornado actually came close to my home, and it was a F1 that hit a mile and half away, caused minimal damage and caused no injuries. The person who foolishly took that video was incredibly stupid, and lucky to survive. If I had to choose between living in a place that faced earthquakes, hurricanes, wild fires or tornadoes, I'd choose tornadoes.

So is that the beast of a tornado that traveled 370(!) miles? This is... what the hell. Good luck man and to whoever are affected.

Also, you can have all of them. Just the first and third one are unlikely...
