deanb Posted June 15, 2011 Report Share Posted June 15, 2011 So after I finished all the Stargates n Smallvilles n House started to get stale I've moved onto this. I'm only 2 episodes in up to now. Very JJ Abrams-ey, which tbh not too keen on "The pattern". I think it'd work quite well without any overarching plot, but from my understanding that's just how yanks do TV. Loving Walter, great character. Not so much on the others. FBI woman is a bit stale. Obviously the head of the agency is probably going to be a bad guy and Massive Dynamic are probably a company who support Green energy n file their taxes on time. But Walter is quite an enjoyable character as is Nimoy's when you finally see him (almost spoilered who he was). I'm not going to say much about it. And all I can say is you're not predicting it quite right as yet . Walter has some interesting history. As for Anna Torv she might be familiar as she was the voice and did the mocap for Nariko in Heavenly Sword. Season 3 had it's ups and downs. It's never come back to the UK since. And since Fringe came out ages ago I'm well aware Reveal hidden contents that the pattern is related to another parallel universe and Peter isn't ours. I'm not one to get too fussed over spoilers, especially on TV shows. I've grown up with the TV mag spelling out the next weeks worth of TV, it's not really something I care too much about. Personally, I've little to no interest in shows that have no overarching plot. It's kinda why I eventually lost interest in House and why I don't watch crime procedurals. I need something to keep me coming back week after week. Self-contained stories just don't feel like they're worth investing my time into. Of course, a truly great show will be good no matter the format. There are always exceptions. For example, Nathan Filion makes Castle extremely enjoyable to watch. Anyway, as for Fringe, back when I watched season 1, I kept waiting for "something to happen", which from what I heard is a sentiment many shared. I think it just gets better as the show progresses. Can't wait to see where season 4 will go. And while the show mostly maintains its "case of the week" format, it does get a bit more serialized in season 2 and 3. Also, for some reason, I find that Fringe works best in marathon sessions. I have difficulties keeping interest on a weekly basis. I watched the pilot back when it started and liked it, but only watched the whole season after it ended. Then season 2 started and I watched it for all of two weeks before I stopped. I only caught up with it about halfway through season 3, watching all of season 2 in a matter of days, and then watching the fifteen or so episodes of season 3 that were out at the time. Hell, I even rewatched the LOTR trilogy a few months ago, and I was shocked when I realized he was Denethor. At the moment I'm on Season 2, just had the mind control kidnapping. It was a bit obvious from the get go. Charlie is dead though. I liked his voice. I'm definitely liking Fringe. No one seems at all confused by his phoning and walking about on crime scenes n such. I shall highlight the "Fox" in the corner and I'm aware they have a habit of messing up the ordering of shows from time to time. Thing is this Charlie isn't going on any typewriters, nor is Olivia still having bowling therapy. deanb Posted August 8, 2011 Author Report Share Posted August 8, 2011 So I have not finished Fringe. Waiting on Series 4 for September (I believe) All getting very very good. It has definitely gotten into it's stride. First season was very monster-of-the-week type, at least until about half way with Mr Jones. But now it's all getting very arcing n such. Nice build-up, though I'd imagine me watching it in one go is helping. The cast is really good. Especially John Noble with both the mentally unstable Walter Bishop and the semi-totalitarian Secretary Bishop on the other. I kinda wonder how they film the show. Like a block in universe A then a block in universe B then cut together. Or as n when the episode calls for it. Oh and now I'm done with this for now I'm going to go elsewhere. It was a shame that two of the episodes, in a row, were focused around people seeing the future. Reveal hidden contents It's gotten pretty good now cos Mr Jones is back. Peter coming back, but being sort of dis-attached from the universe timeline is pretty good. Especially as he's sort of re-writing it back around him. Olivia, who in this reality is dating Agent Lee, is starting to flash back to the "original" Olivia who is dating Peter. This versions Nina is also....not as benevolent as the original. The two sentences may be connected. Not sure yet. Just watched next weeks trailer. Reveal hidden contents WOOOH. Fucking Observer-centric episode. Which meant that I ended up missing some at the time because It had one long break, then a minor two week break. That two week break happened so quickly after the first meant I was thrown out the loop on my usual Saturday habit of grabbing new fringe (so I caught up last week). Should've explained this one too though yeah none of us thought about it cause well she's shady anyway. I'm curious about the observer, September, though from next week's previews. As for the breaks. I thought there were three there was a long break and two short breaks of a week and 2 weeks and now another one till March 23rd after the coming episode. also I hear Reveal hidden contents Desmond from lost, Henry Ian Cusick will be in the show. Last night's episode was great, but I wonder why they even bothered with the case, since so little screen time was devoted to it, it was never really resolved properly, and didn't have much to do with the main plot. Some of them introduce characters who have what 30 second airtimes sometime on a crucial episode? I don't know if I'd say that was a filler episode, there was a lot relevant to the main plot, but the "monster of the week" story line didn't get fully fleshed out like it usually does. It just seems like they wrote part of an episode, realized they needed more, so they threw in that story line. I know we have stuff like Wimbledon mess things up, anything similar going on in US?).It was alright, kinda neat that Reveal hidden contents Peter now has access to the Observers hideout. And finally it's put to rest that this is in fact the original universe. Part that pissed me off when was the "video slowing machine", cos you can't put frames into a video that aren't there. If it's 25fps video the slowest it'll go is every 40ms. Need more Robert Jones though. The stuff with Peter n the Observer should have had a bit more to it, the other part of the episode with the guy sucking the pheromones out wasn't as interesting, nor did he seem to have much motivation to be doing it.
