Sod it I'm gonna give it it's own thread.

So main reason for this is cos there's a full TV shown been announce focused on the A-M City Watch.

And it's going to be new stories too (unlike the previous three TV stories based on books). Now to play the waiting game.

Ever so slightly outdated but here's a reading guide:

(it's missing Snuff, which should come after Thud!, with "Where's my Cow?" coming as a sort of spin-off in-between the two)

For those not into reading there's a couple of (really old) games, as well as three recent made-for-TV films based off Hogfather, Colour of Magic/Light Fantastic, and Going Postal. I'd recommend Going Postal and Colour of Magic as they made the leap from book to script a bit better.

Personally, I'm a big fan of the books about DEATH. Reaper Man is a good one. For less DEATH heavy books I liked Small Gods a lot. The Colour of Magic and the Light Fantastic are as good a place to start as any, being the first books about the disc.

For non Discworld books, Good Omens was an entertaining read.

Well there's a reading guide up top. Colour of Magic is probably the best to start with since it's the first book and thus introduces the world. However it's not as developed as the later books, Pratchett hadn't yet clicked in his head what it was all about at that point. Like Thursday(and if it's not easy to tell by my Avatar) I'm a Death fan. Though the Patrician is great too, but he has no specific arc, mainly with the Watch n Industrial Revolution stuff. The Watch stuff doesn't really travel much around the Discworld like the Rincewind ones do, but they show the most progression.

Basically it's using the fantasy world as parody and satire of modern times and of the fantasy genre. Though it sort of progresses over time from "parody of fantasy" to "satire of modern day" throughout the series. The "Industrial Revolution" arc being more recent and more the modern day stuff. Things like the Disorganizer, a take on a PDA. And Hex the computer(It's got an anthill inside). Oh the Witches stuff parody Shakespeare too. There's a rather Douglas Adams vibe to them, if you've read his stuff.
