Free to play (with microtransactions), PC only, developed by Microsoft, on GFWL.

Well, this came out recently, and I didn't see a topic on it. I've been messing around with it a lot, and I know Duke has given it a go, but I was wondering if anyone else had tried it.

I'm a bit of a flight sim geek, and this really isn't for everyone (no matter how hard MS tries), but I've been genuinely enjoying it, even if it is ridiculously stripped down from Flight Sim X a few years ago. I coughed up the $20 for the rest of the Hawaiian islands, and even though I do miss buzzing my house in a 747, you can really tell the attention to detail that they've put into the environment this time around. The ground isn't obviously satellite imagery bastardized into polygons and pixels, it's actually crafted to look a bit more realistic this time around. The ground level textures are still nothing compared to Cryengine or Frostbite by any means, and your plane still towers over buildings, the scale being a bit off, but the water looks fantastic and the smaller scale seems to have allowed the developers to focus on a bit smaller environment.

It feels more arcadey for sure, but your planes still handle like planes and landing is still tough for those that haven't played any sort of flight sim before. The multiplayer is quite a bit of fun as well, even if all I've really done is crash into a friend over and over.

Either way, it's out, and you should play it. Maybe. Or not, if you don't like Flight Sims.

I played a game in the Beta and I dunno it just didn't click with me and this is from someone who's played MS Flight Simulator from the DOS era on multiple floppies :)

I know what you mean. I've only been playing since FS2002, but still, the first game I had was sort of "what the fuck is this", then I tweaked the assists a bit and muted the music and dialogue. Much, much better then.

I guess it's just that it's a different game than FSX and prior. Definitely more focused on bringing new players into the series.
