VG Book Club

So somewhat similar/exactly the same with Kotakus book club thing they do sporadically once in a blue fart, except maybe with the hope of doing this on more games. Basically it's a nice quirky way to play a game 'together'.

So I'm just wanting to gauge both who would maybe be up for things like this. Ideas on how we'd organize it, and any recommendations of either upcoming games, or maybe even a run on already out games? Also timing? Some folks might be cool with putting in an hour a night to play through a chapter or two, but some might want to burn the midnight oil n complete it in a day. Which does mean it might introduce some pacing for folks who are like that and don't want to actually be burning through the new $60 game all in one go.

Primarily it seems to work best on linear chapter/level based games that are some what short, so about 15hrs or less. So unfortunately most RPG's are out the window.

I'm not sure on the campaign make up of most upcoming games, but if people throw out any interest I can have a look about n see if I can find out.

Oh and generally a game with a decent story. Of course we can't tell until it's played mine, but you tend to be able to somewhat judge a game as it's release comes up.

Of course one of the main issues, or at least maybe for me, is the cost of buying games brand new, especially for doing it specifically for this which I doubt many would. Of course if it's a game everyone's buying then awesome. Also great if it's a game that's multi-platform, let as many folks as possible join in.

So for now just post any interest, and any potential candidates for the future.

In the past when we've tried this it's a little difficult to get participation even though we have a lot of interest. I think multiple platforms is good but I think also picking a short game to get the ball rolling would be good. Earthbound was a bit of a time commitment for some people. Something like Modern Warfare would be good for game clubs because a lot of people play it and it only takes 8 or so hours to beat.

I would be interested, and I could participate in just about anything... I think Dead Space 2, which is coming soon, might be a good idea. It's multiplat, lots of people are looking forward to it, and there will be some interesting things to talk about.

Yeah, DS2 seems like a good game to start this I guess. The first one was neatly divided into chapters (not sure about this one) and it has a cool story IMO, so I propose that game :P

It's also a multiplatform title! :P

Is Dead Space 2 getting a PC release?

It's coming to PC but not simultaneously. Regardless I do think DS2 could be a good one to do. afaik it comes in chapters, it's multi-plat, not too long. and it has a narrative of sorts.

Who's up for playing? I can put a post up to gather folks though since I won't be getting the game (don't play horror titles) I'd need someone to sort of organise timings (Like chapters/day) n guide discussion n stuff like that.

I pre-ordered it, however, due to the way stores here handle things it's probable I won't have it on release date (the city where I live is amongst the last ones to receive new games and stuff :P), but as soon as I get it I'll begin playing so yeah, if this thing is actually going to happen I'm up for it.

As for organizing dates and stuff, sorry, I'll pass, I'm not good with those things :P
