No, the movie looked like the same shit Hollywood makes every year. There's the old saying that 99% of everything is crap and movies are no exception. I go into every movie I see expecting it to be rubbish. Scott pilgrim is completely unlike the typical Hollywood shit, apart from anything the direction blows any recent Hollywood film out the water. I'm guessing from your 'looked like' that you've only seen trailers? Anyway, everyone who has said negative things about the film seems hung up on the fact it caters to 'gamer culture'. Not at all; the film (and the comic book) caters to people who grew up in the late 80s and 90s. A huge part of that was video-games, yes. Hell I don't know anyone my age who didn't grow up playing video-games, even people who wouldn't go anywhere near them nowadays. Maybe you're outside that age demographic, I don't know, but the film isn't just about video-games, it's about music and relationships, there are references to comics and films. Sure there's a slight 'hipster' vibe going on that might put you off, but take my sister for example. She hasn't played video-games for years, in fact I'd say she actively dislikes them, but I gave her the comics to read and she loved them, and she went to see the film and she loved it. Scott pilgrim doesn't try and cater to the whole of 'gamer-culture' whatever the hell that is. It is simply a product of its time. I suppose you could say it caters for the video-game generation; if you weren't part of that I can see why you wouldn't like it but I'm getting kind of sick of people hating on it because it doesn't appeal to them. I don't like metal but I wouldn't go to Metal concerts and bitch about how bad the music is.

Well if you think about it 'February fourteenth' doesn't even make grammatical sense. It would be like saying 'America President' instead of 'the President of America'. Without the preposition 'of' there is nothing to denote that the fourteenth belongs to February. The only way to make that grammatically correct would be to say 'February's fourteenth'.

Seconded. I'm an ideas man.

I'll probably go out and hope to pull. Just a typical night out then, but with more people getting off around me and a greater feeling of disappointment if I fail.

Ahem

Actually quite excited for this, although I'm not so sure about the casting of Xavier and Magneto.

Either my disc drive is bust or my Godard boxset contains some faulty DVDs. Either way it's ruined my plans for the evening.

Knackers is also slang for testicles (although you don't hear it used that way very often). I'm not sure why though since the knackers yard is where you send animals to be slaughtered if they're unfit for human consumption (hence knackered = tired/spent).

Zed's dead baby.

Yeh I use crack (craic) as synonymous with the word banter which is a much more southern thing and also subject to ridicule since the infamous video (which will probably mean nothing to those of you in the US, I'm sure you'll enjoy the accent though). But yeh 'that was good/bad crack', 'he's got good crack' etc. Also in that video, to chunder = to throw up. As for the aitch/haitch thing I always used to pronounce it with a 'huh' sound at the beginning as well, it's quite common. I use neither runners nor sneakers, they're trainers. Chips are chunks of potato deep fat fried whereas fries are made out of a sort of mash potato mix that is shaped into a long chip shape (presumably from the French method since they're French Fries). I'm guessing debs is short for débutante ball?

Hmm not as far as I recall but I did dream about being attacked by a shark the other day. It chewed on my feet then I managed to hold it's jaws open and we wrestled like that for some time. My feet were tingling when I woke up. The person below me hates/fears spiders.

I wouldn't have thought a race was particularly out of place in a game which is largely based around car chases. It is called Grand Theft Auto after all.

Sucker sort of makes sense I guess but really the sucker should be the thing doing the sucking not the thing being sucked. (Huge wasted opportunity for double entendre right there). Also is sucker slang for a gullible person in the US as well?

Yeh they're the same sweet on the stick principle just a different flavour judging from the colour of those. Better pic:

So I take it you don't have these Drumsticks in America?

He speaks the truth! The person below me is a fan of Belgian beer.

Hell yeah, Arrested Development. I had to leave my boxset at home though because it belongs to my sister as well as me. Which reminds me, I forgot to mention the above list of my DVDs is just what I brought to uni with me, not everything I own.
-
Absolute fail on my behalf, we have the same boxset I just somehow typed Raising Arizona instead of Blood Simple. Probably because I really want to see Raising Arizona. Still I dunno what I was thinking there...

Films: Coen Brothers boxset (The Big Lebowski, The Hudsucker Proxy, Barton Fink, Raising Arizona) The Elephant Man Fargo Fight Club Ghost in the Shell The Godfather Trilogy Goodfellas Godzilla Gullermo Del Toro Collection (Pan's Labyrinth, The Devil's Backbone, Cronos) Jackie Brown Jean-Luc Godard The Ultimate Collection (14 Godard films that I can't be arsed to type out) Once Upon a Time in the West Resevoir Dogs Star Wars IV-VI TV Series: Black Books (Series 1) Brass Eye Extras (Both series and the Christmas special) Family Guy (Series 1-5) Spaced South Park (series 1&2) Garth Marenghi's Darkplace Bit of an eclectic mix, I know. It's not the entirety of my film collection, though it's a significant chunk. I have £5 or less rule when buying DVDs (single films that is) and I also use Lovfilm to watch most films so I don't own many DVDs.

Least favorite game of all time.
Mr W Phallus replied to VicariousShaner's topic in General Gaming Chat
Whilst I agree 100% when it comes to the single-player, I had a blast whilst playing Far Cry 2 multi-player. I only rented it so I can't really comment on the long-term replayability but I played it pretty much non-stop for the week I had it. -
Despite the lack of challenge I found it fun and engrossing. I thought they did a decent job of using the DS's quirks like the mic etc without making it seem too tacked on. Except the closing the DS puzzle. I had to cheat on that.

Dead Space My first completion of the year. Time to settle in for the long wait for DS2 to be less than £10 in a Steam sale. In the mean time I might start Deus Ex.

I agree with all this but I think Watchmen was great and I was one of the people who read the comic (twice) before the movie came out. The "ultimate" cut was definitely as close as they were going to get to the comic with the more simplified ending. Also, the opening credits= genius. Well I've said I don't like it, I don't want to harp on about it like a broken record. I should probably see the DC mostly because I want to see the Tales of the Black Freighter stuff but I don't have high hopes. If you liked it though, please feel bad about yourself. Anyway I won't be replying for a while cos I gotta get my drink on, so don't think I'm just pussying out of an argument.

As shallow as it makes me, once I noticed the mole I just couldn't get it out of my mind. Oh who am I kidding I'd do her anyway, mole and all. Oh and I haven't seen the Director's Cut. Yes, I know what you're all gonna say, I can't judge until I've seen it how it was meant to be seen. Well a few good scenes don't make up for the myriad shit ones, so unless they removed all of them in the DC I ain't changing my opinion.
