  1. It just says 'terrible'... So I guess that would include 'terrible' i.e. terrifying i.e. distasteful/ offensive! Re: that joke my friend made (above), it's actually pretty worrying that he came up with that on the spot.
  2. Shit, Moonrise Kingdom. Forgot to mention that. Fucking good stuff. @Strange: I can totally get that. And I think some of his films are better than others. They're kinda like Coen Bros style black comedies in that you should be laughing at how self-aware and stupid a lot of the stuff that goes on in them is. I first saw Royal Tenenbaums when I was a lot younger and my sense of humour wasn't totally developed, and I just didn't think anything of it. Seemed boring and unfunny. Then I saw some scenes of Steve Zissour years later, and it was fucking great; but this was well after I got into slacker comedies and anti-humour and things like that. Moonrise Kingdom particularly has a pretty good adventure and story in it. Painfully romantic too, so if anybody's got a date, that's the film to see. Really good stuff, except maybe two moments which don't make sense/ are a little too farfetched.
  3. A guy walks into a bar with a slab of ashphalt under his arm. He says, 'I'll take a whiskey, and one for the road.' (Hope nobody saw this on the Punny Twitter feed.) A friend of mine, on the spot, came up with an even more distasteful iteration of this kind of joke. What's the difference between Madeleine McCann and a tractor? You get more than 4 years of use out of a tractor.
  4. Watched The Girl Next Door again last night while chatting at a friends. Always forget how good that movie is. Ingenious for being produced and advertised to look like 'generic shitty chick-flick #xx' but when you actually watch it it's a fucking excellent story and a funny as shit movie. Love dat.
  5. Oh, haha, yeah. It was Ocelot she gave birth to. Silly game.
  6. Playing The Boss in WWII would be awesome. You start off pregnant, and give birth to Snake on the battlefield. You get 'protective mother' rage mode where you can kill loads of dudes. The pregnancy bit is more stealth/ evasion, and you have to waddle about. Then later it's all the action stuff.
  7. I can't watch Luther. Luther is Stringer Bell. None other.
  8. Shut up! Why don't you just leave me alone!
  9. The brother of the chav girl, and the new character in season 3 (I think) are both in This Is England (the movie and the TV series). Not Shameless. Which reminds me! This Is England '86. Probably the best TV show I've ever seen, if we're talking about 4 parters. Or miniseries. It's fucking sublime. Also one of the heaviest, most harrowing things I've ever seen. This is real shit people. Real life. THIS IS REAL LIFE PEOPLE. EDIT: I should probably add that it's so real that it also features lots of laughter and love and brilliant things. As well as anger and contempt and frustration and violence. It just feels like one of those works of art that really captures life and what goes on in it. Such a masterwork. So much better than the film it's insane.
  10. Misfits is good. One of those things that looks awful until you watch it, but the style/substance ratio is actually strong. Like the first season of Skins. (But NO FURTHER. NO OTHER SEASON OF SKINS IS BEING MENTIONED HERE.) I met Iwan and whateverhername is, the chav one, at Kapow! comiccon last year. Cool guys. Got a signed copy of season 1-2 box-set, too. And a photo which I haven't put online yet. I didn't watch season 3 though, didn't like the sound of some of it's chat tbqh.
  11. Hah. Cookie meaning quirky, offbeat, unusual. Nutter meaning crazy, mad, a lunatic.
  12. That actually looks real good, sounds like they're really pushing the game design boat with LEGO Bman 2. Issue with Max Payne 3's score attack mode: there's a bug where getting Gold or above on all levels doesn't actually unlock Unlimited Bullet Time for you. And I have said bug. Fucking frustrating. They're looking into patching it now, apparently.
  13. Pirating comics digitally and reading them on computer screens is always a classic. And they're so much nicer having on paper that they're products I often actually buy after having pirated them. All-Star Superman is one of my favourite comics of all time. Incredible. Really, really want the Absolute edition. That animated film was very odd, but not bad. Misses some of the best bits of the comics and isn't as good artistically. Just finished: From Hell. Holy fuckballs. Why haven't I read that before. One of the best things I've ever read.
  14. Yeah, after reading and assessing countless comments on forums and news sites, the word on the street seems to be that this document is real, just obsolete; the state of affairs from mid-2010 when they published this document. There are other important facets to their plan which aren't documented here.
  15. Didn't know that about Liquid's resurfacing in 2 due to fan pressure. Fucking irritating. Don't compromise shit like that. MGS2 would have been far better without him.
  16. Yeah apparently it's stronger towards th end. Peggy's being shoved aside and weakened. Joan's stuff is quite good. And frankly every single thing involving Pete is just unreal. Easily my favourite character. So glad he hasn't been compromised, he's just so strong. Everything he says. I hate how Crane's an annoying big mouth character now, he used to just be a great guy, my old favourite character. Goddamn. Hope this is just an odd transitionary season and there'll be a big improvement in 6 onwards. 1-4 are just some of the best things I've ever seen and 5 has ruined that. Yeah Betty's weight thing was so hamfisted and cringey. The bit with her dream... Christ, that's genuinely amateur stuff.
  17. As per my status; Mad Men. Just rewatched seasons 1-4 with a friend who's a first-time watcher. Absolutely masterful, better second time. And in my mind pretty close to The Wire, surpassing it in a few ways. But season 5... goddamn some of that is weak. Really, really weak, like Desperate Housewives bad. But DH gets away with it because that's what they're going for. MM is supposed to be serious and thoughtful. Not tripey. Tbh the problems are mostly Don's love life and Betty, who's just awful. The overall direction is poor, too, though storywise the rest of it is okay.
  18. Few episodes into Season 5 of Mad Men. I am disappoint.

    1. TheFlyingGerbil

      TheFlyingGerbil

you've got better perseverance than me - I got bored around series 3, I think

Second half of three then onto four is a period of the best tv of all time. Sad that you dropped out, though its pretty understandable; it is really slow. The whole thing actually benefits from a second watch, you notice the thematic depth and double meanings behind every word and action spoken on the show.

Series 5 is actually just bad thus far. Closer to Desperate Housewives then the intelligent drama it was.

    3. TheFlyingGerbil

      TheFlyingGerbil

If they actually properly finish it like they were supposed to, I may get the box set and give it another go from the start.

  19. This... What is this? Meant to say IRL. Parents iPad autocorrect fail. She's a cookie nutter in real life. So should get on fine with Cage et al.
  20. Haha, I didnt see Eva's history thing. That's cool. I've shot ocelot in his sleep and I'm sure I saw him at Johnstone's window. Havent seen Raikov in The Sorrow. Some of the other unprompted first person cutscene angles are really cool; though a lot of them are just The Sorrow hanging around creeping everyone out. I can't imagine how many are left that people haven't found. The depth of those games is just insane. Edi: just thinking about how incredible Eva' detail is for character development... 'night terrors'. Those two words conjure an entire scene in the readers mind. Fucking ingenious. Great indirect storytelling.
  21. Have you looked at this thread? We're already in a bromantic dramedy.
  22. Trying to get Gold in every Score Attack in Max Payne 3. So much fun, though New York Minute is the better mode. If I can manage this, I get Unlimited Bullet Time if I do Chapter Select... That'll be fucking awesome for a collectible-pickup play through. Also, it's great being able to choose which Max model you want to play with, also, a little-known-fact is that on replaying chapters, you can choose the original Max Payne model or the Max Payne 2 model to play with. It's hilarious, brilliantly goofy but well implemented. MP2 max looks fucking good. Currently on the second last chapter on Score Aattack. The only problem with the mode is that the toughest SA chapters a ones with fewer enemies; you really have to play well to get gold or platinum on those. And the only chapters that are this short/ sparse are the earlier ones... So Score Attack is harder in the earlier missions... Balancing issues ahoy. I love Max Payne 3. Love that game. What platform you on? If you want an MP bud, lemme know. Has brilliant multiplayer, potensh better than the SP.
  23. Ohhhh yeahhhh. But still, the others are identified normally with no mention of the subtitles.
  24. She's a decent actress, but a total cookie nutter URL. Should fit fine in this. Willem DaFoe is absolutely brilliant. Fucking love him in American Psycho. He's only in it for like three scenes or something but was told to act them in completely different ways, it's so good.
  25. But the subtitles to the earlier games are superfluous; they can be identified by the numerical value alone. This new one (refuse to acknowledge that name) has to be identified by the subtitle alone.
