Metal Gear Solid HD Collection
SomTervo replied to Thorgi Duke of Frisbee's topic in Multi-Platform Games
That is suuch an awesome idea. Though really, I don't think it would work narratively at all, things are explained and revealed at odd points in the series, and you'd get a pretty partial and imbalanced view of the story until you got to MGS4. I guess the fact that they were written and created in a certain chronological order is why it might not work; the story was told in this order. I forget, have you played them all before FLD? -
Definitely an excellent game, I felt it was better than Uncharted 2 most of the way through, but the last Act or so felt really unfulfilling to me. Specifically around the 2/3rds or halfway mark, I was literally thinking "this is so, so much better than Uncharted 2, and I'm in ecstasy at that thought", but by the end I had a slightly bitter taste in my mouth, mostly due to the story and dramatic choices, and gunfights that started to feel a little cheap at times.

We talked about this bro, if you recall: the controls were laggy in most previous RAGE games were because of the design of the characters animation and how it related to the movement- not the engine itself. Again, Rockstar Table Tennis was in RAGE and featured no lag, it was responsive as shit. Max Payne 3 has 1:1 movement and turning just like MP1 and 2, so this shouldn't be an issue. It was an issue in GTAIV and RDR because they animated the characters to have massive turning arcs, and a sense of momentum so they don't go from 0-4Mph with no gradiation, etc. On your second comment I quoted, they confirmed the comics will be back, though they'll be partially in motion, and a different style from the original's photo-based artwork. The original games still had in-game cutscenes, which are what is being shown in trailers as they're probably more interesting to look at. @Cyber: I'm kind of okay with what they're doing to Max; him being haunted by old experiences and characters, etc., as a sense of the characters past infringing on the present is part of the noir genre. His story seems okay too, pushing the character into different extreme scenarios. However, I'm not convinced of Rockstar's portrayal or execution of him. Already in the trailers he doesn't seem to have the solid confidence in the storytelling that he had in the other two games. The acting seems a little forced, the animations a little melodramatic. Part of the character's appeal is how blasé he is about everything; his emotions have already been tarnished. I'm not confident they'll get him right in the game, though I'm confident of the story and other characters and gameplay and simulation.

Haha that's a good one. Accidental move discovery is great, there is so much you can do in that game. Mine was the inside vent takedown when you slam a guy outside the vent. Did not expect that to happen. And using the CQC disarm move to bend someone's pipe. I felt like such a badass.

Rockstar does them. The technology, story, etc. trailers. Did them for GTAIV and Rockstar and prolly will for GTAV. And yeah, the game's definitely looking great. I was depressed the thread died that fast.

Damn fucking straight. Nah I totally understand how it works; I played the shit out of MGS3. When I said an analogue stick, I meant moving it a direction, as clicking it down is obviously a binary button. That would be odd though. -

That's really lame, I'd imagine they'd swap around the buttons so that the few pressure sensitive ones (analog sticks, triggers) would be used for things that are pressure sensitive actions. But clearly they had to keep it being obtuse. -
Pffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffff All English culture originated from Shakespeare. Which is WAAY less cool than Trainspotting

I may be missing something, but I'm pretty sure there isn't a topic about this. Sparked by a conversation in the status updates. Re: the simulation: http://www.gametrailers.com/video/design-and-max-payne-3/723955

The artist I'm currently writing a comic with just got chosen to be trained by the UK's leading rep for the videogames industry as an artist/animator. Is it selfish that I just hope he doesn't have to move away?

I download stuff, but never games these days. I just enjoy the security too much, and also enjoy having physical copies of them. The only games I might pirate are old SNES era games; I'll never have a SNES etc., and it'd be hard/ too expensive to get one, so it's the only way I could ever play them. However, I think I'm on Johnny's side of the fence in a few ways. Like Malicious and Strangelove, I download a lot of music. If I love, say, 5 bands, and they all have a new album out, there's no way I'm going to buy all 5 of those albums. I'll maybe buy the one or two I can afford. But even though I'm a fan of the other three bands and want to support them, I'll download their stuff. There's no other way I could enjoy them, and take them with me on my iPod. In fact, if I don't download the stuff now, I probably wouldn't in the future, and probably would never buy the disc anyway. So I might as well have an actual good experience and listen to their music. I'll be better off than not having listened to it; and I tend to support bands in live performances more, anyway. So I'd probably support them more once I've listened to their stuff and decided I like them and will see them live. I can, sort of, see it the same way for games. The grit of my argument: On a social and economic level, it's wrong to pirate. Obviously. You're stealing content that a lot of people slaved to make some sort of money from. But on a personal level, if you have no money and no opportunities to make said money, you would (/could) pirate the products just so that you get the experience of playing them. That's how I feel about music; I'm not pirating out of a malicious theft of their work, but because I know if I don't I'd never get the experience, and improve my personality and quality of life from doing so. I'd be missing out on a lot if I didn't. Games are tougher because they're so expensive, but that's how I justify my downloading actions with music. It's better that I improve my person and support them in future when I can, than not experience anything and stagnate, but still spend no money.

I agree with all those Fuchi, but it's odd, all the folks up here in Edinburgh use it as an exclamation. *They drop a guitar* "shit the bed!" Your use seems funnier, though. Think I'll start using it that way. My flatmate agrees.
-
It shit the bed on you?! What does that mean where you're from? Over here 'shit the bed' is an exclamation, like going 'shit' or 'crap' when something bad happens. It ain't a verb! Also, welcome to you and Flat =D

This. Also, you shouldn't have mentioned the cheevos. Seriously contemplating grabbing this myself now; though I think I'm still good with Ico/ SotC HD collection. -
This game actually looks pretty enticing. Is Rayman: Origins a downloadable title, too? I'm more inclined to get that. Looks amazing.

Fair comm, Doc, but I still think the last minutes of the game were badly edited storywise, and that's why it was confusing. It's easy to make something ambiguous, but ambiguous isn't necessarily confusing. I found the end of Alan Wake pretty confusing as well as ambiguous, though I picked up most of the story. But what you said definitely makes sense, anyway!
-
Nehhhh I wouldn't agree with that. I'd say Halo CE > any other Halo game Halo Reach > Halo 2, 3, ODST The Beatles > The Rolling Stones .... Actually: The Beatles > Almost every band ever Alcohol > Cannabis Every drug ever > Alcohol (and Cannabis)

It would be cool if different NPCs were attracted to different physical attributes (beyond just gender) so if you made a giant buff black dude then different people would be attracted to you than if you made a small, frail albino guy. Yeah, this is definitely an area that could be improved in these sorts of games. So far, people only react if you're a male or a female, or are naked. They should comment more on stuff you have, stuff you're wearing, your bodily attributes, and stuff you've done.

Metal Gear Solid HD Collection

I don't remember noticing that myself, and frankly, I probably feel that way because MGS3's ending actually made sense. MGS2's was such a mess. The whole thing was such a mess. It felt long not just because it was long, but because it was so disjointed and confusing, which just made me even more aware of how long it was. Re: Liquid Ocelot changing: his hair's still really the same length in both pics, though? Just ponytailed or not. Could be Liquid's personality traits could have started to become dominant, and tore the sleeve off and changed the hair. -
Yeah, depends on money. Which there probably won't be enough of. So I might just out now.

Yeah, movies do that all the time. And MGS3 is basically a spy movie. The characters even comment on it "your Russian is good" etc. Such a good game. -

Not in the original release of MGS3. Clicking down R3 held the camera in place, and you could move the camera around a bit with R3 itself. In MGS3: Subsistence they added the free camera. I don't even know why they did it then, but they did, and it was brilliant. Do you mean in the HD re-releases you can? Because if so, that's great. I wasn't talking about the HD releases. Definitely ups my likelihood of getting the pack if you can in MGS3. Though it'd still be nice to have 3D camera in 2 also. Such a revelation. These games are the Substance and Subsistence versions. MGS3 only has the content that came on the first disc though. Youre not missing much really anyways. And actually, MGS2 wouldnt work very well at all with a free camera. Every section in that game is small and there are walls everywhere. In MGS3 it worked wonderfully because of the wide open spaces and the different levels of ground. MGS2 only had one - the floor. And Kojima added it because it was requested by fans. Yeah, that's fair. I think MGS2 would work with free cam, but you're probably right, at times it would no doubt get a bit clunky. It'd be nice as an optional choice, at least, like MGS3. Was MGS2's singleplayer campaign any different in the Substance version? I really enjoyed the VR missions. Are they in the HD Collection, too? -
