  1. For me, basically just the 'leave a lasting impact' one. I want to leave something that people will be inspired by or will be able to enjoy and think about for a long time, and in depth. To reach this, I have to either: - Write a novel/ body of short stories - Write a screenplay. - Write a comic - Write a song/ album - Learn to program, then make a good game. Preferably all of the above. Already started on all of them (most difficult one is the last, but I've got an achievable idea and made a couple of little headways) Also- fall fully, properly in love. And have a good relationship with person who I'm in love with.
  2. COME ON! (In G.O.B's voice) I need this shit, man!!! I only have to wait until tomorrow! All these comments are making me get too excited. Again, COME ON!
  3. Yeah, Y: The Last Man is amazing. I recommend Ex Machina as well, and Runaways is great too. I always forget he wrote that! I wonder when he'll return to comics writing... Good that my Dark Knight Returns explanation helped, FLD yeah I heard Holy Terror! wasn't a Batman story anymore. I think DC disowned it, too. Miller's most recent quote on it was saying that it had developed into something much larger than a Batman story- but I think he said Batman will still feature in it? @Phallus: Good call on the Killing Joke's inside cover. Fucking quality. I universally prefer undercovers to dust covers for any book. Makes it so much classier and intriguing. I hate dust covers. Just a pity they're so useful D=
  4. You are win Battra. Half for posting that, half for reminding me that I haven't read that comic for years.
  5. Haha, my interest in JRPG's was killed by JRPG's Still, will try it, thanks for the hintage.
  6. 95 on Metacritic. Again, I've known how good this series is meant to be, but haven't had a good enough rig to play it. Bowed out of PC gaming a long time ago for reasons like what Hot Heart mentioned before. Still, at some point in the hopefully not-too-distant future, I'll definitely be catching up on my Witcher action. The tone of it sounds directly up my alley. I love darker fantasy. Game of Thrones was putting me right in the mood for this.
  7. Woooo, there's my number 1. Great to see it so high up. Yeah P4, HL2's def gonna be up top, and it's highly likely KOTOR will be, too. Tbh, I should probably play KOTOR. I've played the opening segment and enjoyed it, but I've never had a gaming PC with enough time to play it and enjoy it over the years. I know how great the game is, by reputation and examination. Should give it a go.
  8. True, wildlife was a bastard. Undead Nightmare is pretty good without auto-aiming, as if you have auto-aiming on and you target a fast mover zombie, they're at your feet and you're staring at the ground before you can say "THIS IS MY BOOMSTICK". @L.A. Noire owners: what's the out-of-crime gameplay like? The city and side crimes, etc.
  9. Wow, I had nowhere near as bad as an experience as that. It was a little bland graphics-wise, but the rest of it seemed pretty playable and a decent adventure. I'm only an hour or two in, but I'd give it a 13 or 14 out of 20. Give the trial a go, Gerbil. It could be the PC port is worse? On my Xbox 360 it was okay.
  10. That was totally sweet. I have so much confidence in this game. Also, on the plot, I'm totally cool with the Arkham City thing. What hasn't been explained so well is that Quincy Sharp is the overarching villain, spoiler from Arkham Asylam: Sharp is in cahoots with Dr Strange who runs the city. Sharp just used all of it to get to power, and cut off the part of the city to be Arkham City to be a mega-prison to hold all the worst of Gotham. Batman goes in because he hears about Two-Face's territory becoming aggravating, and to find out what the deal behind Arkham City is anyway.
  11. Ah, thanks Duke. That's good to hear. Yeah I knew you can turn the assists off, and I plan on it. The feeling of satisfaction in games like Red Johnson or Pheonix Wright when you work a case out without using hints, is just unreal. Considering the level of simulation in this game, that should heighten the immersion significantly. Same, Hottie. Tbh, I liked the combat in RDR even though I had it on Expert aiming- but in GTAIV I found the combat really frustrating and awkward without auto-aim on. In RDR you can really feel the shots, and people go down realistically, but in GTAIV whenever you fired without auto-aim it just felt like nothing was happening and your bullets were about as effective as plastic ball bearings.
  12. Both of those games at #7 are fucking unreal. and it's Uncharted 2 that's overrated. Aw, we love you really Yant. But Uncharted 2 is not overrated.
  13. I was hoping that into the last few hours of the game the interrogations would get significantly harder. To reflect, you know, the whole 'games are harder as you progress' thing. However, I'm going to be playing for the story and drama more than the gameplay or challenge. Is it good in that respect? I've got my final, most important exam tomorrow, then I'm free as a baird to play it up on Friday. This exam is not going to go well though.
  14. Good call P4. Nexus, you're an absolute champ. We should draw it all up into a big chart type thing, give it a vagazzle, and pop it under it's own heading on the main page. Maybe make it an annual event? This Top 10 is shaping up great, too.
  15. @Ethan: Really? I'm glad. There are two user reviews on Metacritic, neither of which are too great, and one cites his main issue as the games difficulty being extremely low. Having said that, in his review he also states that he was about 5 hours in and was hoping he hadn't seen all the game had to offer. Obviously didn't realise it's a 20-30 hour game.
  16. Exactement- especially as you guys are saying it's better I really hope they announce some MP for DD soon. Would be off the hook questing with homies. At least we'll have Dark Souls to tide us over till 2012- although by "tide us over" I actually mean "fuck us in the ass with a pineapple", though we'll still enjoy it.
  17. Fleet Foxes new album: Helplessness Blues. Seems good, but has NONE of the immediacy or catchiness of their first album. Well, a little bit, but it's nowhere near as gripping. Still lyrics are good, and their musical talents are still pretty huge. Really old school rock/folk feel to it, not unlike ole Pentangle or The Incredible String Band. The Roots: How I Got Over. Good contemporary hip-hop album. Really good tone. Some good rapping, but some really really catchy tunes. Dr. Dre: The Chronic. Getting into early 90s hip hop is weird. The cheap background synth just reeks of poor quality by today's standards, but the actual tunes are good and perfect for rollin'. Some fucking brutally gross lyrics though.
  18. Don't know why I didn't nominate Mass Effect. I adore those games. For some odd reason, I just don't feel an emotional attachment. All the ones I chose I hold in my heart.
  19. Haha. That sounds cool enough, I'll send you mine once I find what it is. It'll be cross platform, no doubt.
  20. I can't believe I'm thinking this, as I wasn't the biggest fan of the films, but I think I may actually buy that RotK game if I could find a copy of it. Dragon's Dogma looks great, anyway.
  21. I never got into the Social Club thing. What's it worth, or what worth is it sharing the ID's with others?
  22. I was only joking in reference to Yant's usual cries of 'Uncharted is overrated'. Derp. I felt it may have been a joke, but decided otherwise. Still; "and that's why Metal Gear Solid is the best game ever!"
  23. In general SH2 isn't the scariest- but there are moments that have scared me more than anything. Amnesia has scared me more consistently overall, but it has never reached the peaks of SH2 (mostly some of the Pyramid Head moments). However, the reason SH2 is so timeless is that it is so much more than just a great horror- it's a great story, and the most tied together narrative in videogaming history (imho). I've never felt so satisfied in terms of story after finishing a game, as I was when I finished SH2. Strangelove, fucking play that shit. And Amnesia. Naaaah man. It receives just as much recognition as it should; it's a great game, and hugely important. I say this as MGS was the first game to have a great sense of cinematography- backed up by the engine that was incredible for the time- and a great contemporary relevance and reference to cinema. I still argue it has better camera angles than a lot of great films, and a plot that stands up to most films in general (though the story and script can be a bit too OTT). On top of this it was still a fucking good game that put the stealth genre on the map under a huge 'YOU ARE HERE' sign (before, it was just a small red dot). Really formulaic, but really amazing (I'd argue it's better than a lot of the later MGS titles because it's so perfectly formulaic. It's like the Tetris of stealth games, though tbh that'd go to the earlier Metal Gears').
  24. Kotaku just did a pretty good article on it. I don't agree with this. They aren't pushing an emotional narrative (he's basically right but is hoping there will be one, which there won't). That trailer sure was emotional, but if you read any previews or interviews, unanimously the developers are saying that it's an action game with unemotional gameplay- although there will be emotional backstories and situations surrounding where you go and the people (living or dead) you encounter. It's basically a combination of Oblivion/Fallout 3's quest and open world system, Left 4 Dead's co-op and action (with bigger focus on close combat), and Dead Rising's weapon combination and vehicle system. It also has the RPG'ish elements of Oblivion and Dead Rising. Sounds pretty fucking good if you ask me. So you get quests from people, are free to go anywhere, weapons break easily and can be combined, at first your person is pretty unskilled with items but you can level them up to get better. The vehicles sound extremely fun- but break a lot, like in Dead Rising. Which, tbh is fine, as IRL a car wouldn't be able to run many people over at high speed before it's pretty busted.
  25. I watched someone die yesterday. First time in my life. Deathbed situation. The most surreal and disturbing thing I've ever seen

That must be terrible. My Grandfather died when I was in the same house and he was on his deathbed. However, I was off playing computer games at the time.

I remember I missed my Grandafather's funeral and stayed home- incidentally playing computer games. I also was young and wasn't close to him.

I do regret it in hindsight though. While it was horrible, it's something that you really need to experience, one of those moments of life that really make you see things in a new light.

    3. Hot Heart

      Hot Heart

Wow. I'm sorry for your loss.
