  1. Yea. The only real way I could see a use for Rainmeter is if I had an absurdly large resolution where I'd have plenty of real estate for my web browser while still having open desktop space on the sides to use for Rainmeter.. That's about the only way to get it to be useful since otherwise you'd have to be minimizing whatever you're doing to look at your prettied-up desktop.
  2. Is it just me, or has this week been REALLY chock full of events?

    1. WTF

      WTF

This has been a very eventful year. I mean seriously so much shit happened this year. Tsunamis, earthquakes, economy issues, politics, spring rebellion, summer looting, and we've still got 4 months and some to go.

2012 is settling in nice and comfy.

  3. I think a big problem with Rainmeter is that it requires a lot of screen space to work with. My monitor (1280x1024) is at least several years old, so the real estate that I can bounce around on screen is primo. Not sure if I should bounce back into it either (not to mention my previous experiences with Rainmeter have all ended with failure).
  4. That's what I have a problem with. It's the inaction. I mean, even some cordoning, maybe a single tear gas grenade... but nothing. The rioters are going farther and farther to see just what they can get away with without police intervention, and since the police are busy sitting on their hands I'm willing to bet things will escalate within the next day or so unless the police start acting in some way at least. They might as well not even be there. With the riot police standing in the streets I'm willing to say some of the rioters will loot in their direct sight just to piss them off.
  5. From what I hear from word of mouth apparently the riots spread because of gang rivalry? Is that true? And if it was gang rivalry, wouldn't that be enough justification to quell the riots? If it was done purely to raise the reputation of gangs I don't think they're going to be stopping any time soon, especially if it's to see who can hit the most buildings.
  6. That looting going on in the UK is downright terrifying. Why aren't the police cracking down? Are they in on it or something?

Also, that BBC link isn't working, WTF. Is the BBC site down? It just shows a blank white screen for me.

      Link works for me. :/

You're right that the riots are simply about looting and causing destruction, and every indication seems to point to them being gang orchestrated, which is one of the reasons the police are having trouble - it's hard to contain the troublemakers when they hitting specific targets rather than running around as a directionless mob.

You mentioned using tear gas, but like you said buildings are being lit on fire - you're going to end up with...

    4. Mr W Phallus

      Mr W Phallus

...innocent people escaping burning buildings into a cloud of tear gas, or the firing line of a baton round. Tear gas in a residential area is bad enough, anyway.

  7. Thanks for pointing that out. I actually found out about another shrine while talking to a random NPC, and realized that perhaps I could skip the vampire cave and still proceed with the main quest. Of course, I need to be level 10 to start the quest of the shrine I found, but now I just need to find another one. What do daedric artifacts do, though? I had no idea they had properties outside of...well, being daedric artifacts. In other news: I got accepted at the Arcane University and they gave me a freaking staff! That is awesome. What did the Blades give me? A fucking katana and some armor that I can't even sell! I really want to finish the main story so that I can consider that I "beat" Oblivion, but shit, the heir of the emperor is looking pretty damn cheap right about now! Oh and I was wondering about the Oblivion gates. It seems every single time I venture off the beaten path or get sent just slightly outside of a city, I run across 3 or 4 of them. Surely I'm not expected to close them all? They seemingly spawn at random and frankly I find the "dungeons" they contain to be rather boring. And that's after doing only 2. So, yeah, what's the deal with that? You could close all the gates if you wanted to. When you complete the main questline all the Oblivion gates will be closed (which is a damn relief). Oddly enough, I and a lot of Oblivion players agree that in quite an ironic twist, the Oblivion gates are the worst part of Oblivion. It's a dungeon crawl in a game that is mainly a free-roam RPG, which kills a lot of the immersion of the game, really.
  8. Could always do what I do. Become an alchemist, brew healing potions out of every single alchemical ingredient in sight as I travel. Then pot spam. Hehehehe. However, this way takes a really long time to do since you need to gradually raise the skill level of your Alchemy to be able to create potions of suitable restoration to your health. I guess you could also spam the minor potions, but I think there's a limit on how much you can chug in a 5 minute period. Otherwise, cheap is best. Whatever you can think of that gives you an advantage!
  9. So, apparently over the summer new neighbors moved in. They're 20-25 year old party goers. They never come back sober and they start blaring obnoxious crap on their radio at 300% volume at 2 AM. Fuck.

Party with them. It's the only solution!

I'm not much of a party person, but if it interrupts other people's sleep, I will call the police.

This is a quiet suburban neighborhood too, so get a damn party house somewhere else. It's all old people here.

  10. Would've been interesting if it turned out like that, though. FPS/RPG seems to be something Bethesda likes to push out.
  11. Yea, your best bet is probably to single them out through process of elimination. Shouldn't be too bad with so few mods, I have almost 80 alone before I even boot up the game (which is bad, since some of the mods require files that show up when you boot up the game). That's my general run process with Oblivion. Uninstall, forget for a few months, reinstall on a whim, download and install mods for 5 hours, play for 15 minutes. Yep.
  12. What mods do you have installed? I might be able to identify one that alters the main quest.
  13. Make sure when you do see it, goto the store page, and hit install, this links it to your account so you own it. You won't get it without going to the page and hitting install, so make sure to stop by it within the remaining 13 days. Yea, they finally seem to have fixed whatever was wrong with it. It's up permanently now, and I've already tried the DLC. The new outfits are actually pretty good. Both the Limey and Sad Punk jackets add a sort of medium-level armor to your character which is quite a refreshing thing for Resistance, since it was either all clothing/junk armor or the Fortress (which was the only Resistance armor with a sort of "padding" similar to kevlar vests). The new maps are very good as well. As a lot of people say, the two new maps are far more optimized for SMART than any of the original maps, which is actually quite a refresher. The new weapon attachments I'm kind of mixed on.
  14. The Agents of Change DLC is apparently bouncing on and off of the Steam Store. My friend is playing it but I can't even access it in the store.
  15. Notice how "IE with Chrome Frame" is actually higher than both Firefox and Chrome. I think it's probably connected to browser know-how, not particularly the browser used in and of itself. It's more of an unfortunate bystander in this study, really.
  16. I found the SCP wiki. My life will be tormented and paranoid from now on.

That wiki is pretty cool. Some genuinely creepy stuff to be read.

  17. This will be quite interesting.
  18. I can only go with the second option. I highly doubt it will "coexist peacefully" with WoW. This is a consumer market, there is no peaceful coexistence with a rival product. Therefore, that leads me to the second option. It will die a slow and painful death. Emphasis on the slow and painful, since with such a large budget it is very unlikely it'll die the minute it releases; however, depending on how smoothly the release goes the only real question is how long it takes for the playerbase to start declining. I have to admit that even though I didn't take much of an interest in it at first, I was highly disappointed that it was uncannily similar to WoW.
  19. From what I hear, FemShep #5 is winning by a landslide margin. And I think it's sensible. The others, barring 4 and 6, make her look like identical to a guy.
  20. I'm going to say it bluntly. Stop pussyfooting around this issue. He's clearly ignoring you, and he sees that you're too much of a pussy to do anything about it, so he keeps doing it. He's learned that you're all talk and no walk, and I'm willing to bet he never made any plans to leave in the first place because you have absolutely no inertia behind your demands. Bring it up with the landlord, bring him/her in, SHOW HIM/HER THE ROOM. If you won't do anything to get rid of him, it's only logical that he's going to stay. No, see we have done many things about it. It's, in fact, the reason why he is leaving. He's the one pussyfooting and we've shown him how so. I've said it before, but this is a guy that no matter how many times you tell him one thing or another, he gives you a face and an excuse. He's also the kinda guy that when pushed, even a little, he goes crying (no, really crying) to the landlord or his mother about being "attack." I believe I mentioned the marshmallow incident in a status update, but to recap, he whined about a marshmallow in his food. After a little more pushing tonight, the "excuse" this time is that he's moving "little by little." We know that it's because he's a sloth; a retarded sloth. There's not much that can be done because 1) his contract is valid until Aug 13, 2) he's technically moving, and 3) the landlord doesn't really care at this point since there's about three weeks left on all our contracts. I really wanted to spend the last few weeks of break in peace. So much for that then. I'd probably make sure to contact any future prospective roommates he might live with later and run these horror stories by them to spare them the trouble of living with such a slob. I'm a fat, greasy bastard, but by no means am I as lazy as your sloth there. I mean, seriously. If you out-lazy a fat guy...

  22. Does he know he's being an unsightly son-of-a-bitch with petty beliefs and problems? Also sounds like he may possibly have early onset of schizophrenia, which doesn't sound too out of the question.
  23. I tried Planetside this week. I expected to die, but not THIS much. What the fuck is everyone using, ubered heavies?
  24. Finally played Crysis 2. Only one thing I can say about it.... Whoa.

I should probably get around to playing that before school starts again. When it first came out, I was plagued by the "nanopoints resetting to zero" glitch, so I had to wait for a patch, but my version's been patched for a while now.

Of course, the game no longer being on Steam means I won't be buying it legitimately down the line, which kinda sucks... But meh, EA dug their own grave on that one.

Whoa good. The weapon handling feels a lot better than the first one, and the enemies (notably CELL) actually prioritize their kills!

As in they kill Ceph first, not you. Same goes with Ceph; if they're engaged against CELL, they won't bother attacking you, unlike certain games where everyone drops what they're doing to shoot at the mute guy who just walked in.

It's surprisingly fuckinggood eh. I wrote a review/piece about it, I was so surprised. Just played and completed it in the last week.
