  1. I definitely can't think of any downsides to it, not right off the top anyway. It certainly would help give the people being spawn-camped a fighting chance. A few seconds to run around at least... As it stands there is pretty much a target labeled "vulnerable guy about to land" for every tank, Hawk, and truck to aim at. I think I'll just occupy myself with CTF and zones in the meantime. Or maybe befriend someone on Playfire or something to get some co-op going. I still can't believe that pretty much my entire friends list neglected this game.... On a side note, one thing I did not expect at all was for all regular DM games to be dogfight only. Unless I'm missing something, it seems like that's the only way the game lets you have a free-for-all. It makes sense in a way, but I still didn't see it coming.
  2. Yeah, it seems like smaller TDM games will always end up that way, I've gotta stick to the larger matches where it isn't so easy to abuse someone once you have the upper hand for 5 seconds. It's really messed up. It might not be that bad if the enemies didn't have a bright red light on the ground showing them exactly where your pod (you spawn by shooting down to the planet or station surface in a pod) will land, in addition to seeing your pod drop from the sky so they can begin chasing you before you even touch the ground. I even gotten shot out of the sky in my pod once, before landing, but that might have been a glitch, since my next spawn after that I just dropped from the sky podless... Someone definitely got credit for the kill though. I poked around a couple of forums today though, and it looks like there are plenty of others complaining about it, so maybe some kind of measure will be taken. If they'd at least make it so that the enemy can't see your personal spawning bullseye on the floor I'd be happy. I don't care about being shot out of the sky as much, as it's not easy to do and requires one to focus on the sky, leaving them vulnerable to things right in front of their faces. It's just too much when they're sitting there shooting the ground you're about to land on with tank blasts as you're deploying. It's really not even a matter of overcoming, a team just can't come back once their camp is covered in vehicles. You're being shot at from every direction as you hit the ground, and if you do manage to throw any structure up before dying, it's squashed while you wait to be redeployed. I'm rambling at this point. Lemme stop....
  3. It's not really possible, at least not in a smaller match, which for some reason I seem to find myself in most of the time. You have to escape the drop zone to plant one anyplace meaningful (provided you have the rift energy to do so), and you can't do that if your drop zone has been littered with auto-turrets and there are trucks, tanks, and hawks standing around watching your drop pod fall from the sky. Also, with only 2-3 people on a team, a fresh drop zone with no resources or rift sources won't help much, as the guys with vehicles will be on you as you drop, and you still have nothing but the rifle. You pretty much have to hope you can reach a spot a vehicle can't reach before they get to you, and be damn sharp with that rifle. I guess I should stay away from the smaller matches, but with online functionality being so spotty on it (and me wanted to avoid anymore unnecessary awkward reboots that cause my PS3 to rebuild the file system), I've felt safer just letting the game match me up within my mode parameters. Usually when I find a solid game I just try to stick in that room as long as possible >.> I'd be more irritated about it if I wasn't certain that my PS3 might be at least a small part of the problem. There is a patch coming soon though, hopefully it'll do good things. For the record, I hadn't experienced that in the beta either. I can't really figure out why... Maybe I mainly stuck with CTF or something? Or maybe the etiquette was generally better. Either way though, I don't approve of the brutal spawn-camping that goes on. It seems like I might be in the minority though....
  4. This game is making me feel like shit. I've never experienced abuse like this in my life. I'll admit that part of it is a likely result of my unfamiliarity with it (I suck), but some of it is kinda the result of shitty people and a game structure that allows them to be shitty. Spawn-camping seems to be the order of the day on there. Even if one team outnumbers the other, they show no shame in a TDM. They will bring all their tanks, trucks, and Hawks over to the enemy camp and just smoke people as they land in the spawn area. They even plant turrets right there at the base. Many games end with one team not being able to breathe and everyone just leaving. Not cool at all. It seems like people just don't care. I've even seen a video where someone shows you the best and cheesiest way to spawn-camp in order to win a trophy for coming out of a DM in 1st with no deaths. I guess it was too much work to start a 2-person room called "trophy" like I did, and snag the trophy that way. Despite that though, and various connection/loading errors, I'm still enjoying the game a lot. It really makes me wish I had an accommodating schedule and a group of people who play that I wouldn't mind listening to on mic on a regular basis. I'd really like to be in a solid clan, in other words, so I can participate in some real and effective teamplay. I'd also like to get some co-op going, but it's kinda busted atm if you try to just find a random partner. Evidently it will work w/ an invite, so I might just befriend a stranger on a forum to do it. Can you believe that with a friends list @ around 90 only one other person has this game? Sad...
  5. I'm an ass, somehow I missed Dean's post with the link. Anyway, yeah, I'm pretty psyched to check this out.
  6. I've seen people in here kinda crap on Torchlight before, but might it be worth it @ $3.75? Gamefly has it on sale right now....

^Torchlight was made by a small studio that needed to get it out so they could have any sort of future. It's worked out for them and that's why I'm excited for Torchlight 2 which should be everything they wanted to go for the whole time.

I went with the Amazon sale on FFXI's Abyssea pack instead haha. Because I haven't wasted enough of my life in that game >< Oh well, at least I know I won't run out of things to play this Summer.

    4. Mister Jack

      Mister Jack

Just as well. Torchlight 1 doesn't even have multiplayer, and as I learned the hard way dungeon crawlers can be really boring by yourself.

  7. I had a Logitech Cordless Rumblepad 2 I had bought for FFXI some years ago, and had been using that to play games on the PC the past few months. It was mostly cutting it, but it was annoying the way it would butt heads with games that use the xinput standard. The profiler should have accommodated me, but when I tried to use it in Borderlands it resulted in some wacky controller behavior. Rather than have the buttons flipped (turning the profiler off and letting the game incorrectly translate my control layout), I put up with the awkwardness until yesterday. I lucked out and found someone selling an F710 for $25 on craigslist and jumped on it (and also a silver Dualshock 3 he was selling for $30). It works flawlessly, and has a switch on it so you can choose to use it either as a Rumblepad or as a 360 controller (automatically disabling the profiler). I'm still not crazy about the 360-style triggers, but I'm sure I'll get used to it. Re: DS3 on PC (even though it's a year old) I also have issue with the way the third party software I tried to use nested itself in my OS and refused to leave. I can't remember now if the culprit was joy2key or motionjoy, but I couldn't get rid of traces of it until (for other reasons) I re-installed Windows. It wouldn't have been that huge of an issue, but when my DS3 is dying I usually plug it into the laptop nearby to charge it while continuing to play, but with those drivers on there the laptop would take control of the DS3 as soon as it was plugged in.
  8. These people are awesome. Way to take care of the community. I even pre-ordered at Gamestop just so I could get this stuff. I'm wrestling with Sony to get my month of free PS+ activated (they were accusing Gamestop of having neglected to pass it on to me at first), but once that's set it'll have been worth dealing with my local Gamestop to get this one. I can't wait to dig in to this.
  9. Starhawk & a Rage Against the Machine 3-pack for RB3 in the same day. It's gonna be a fun evening.

Also an FYI, all the pre-order bonus stuff is actually contained on the disc, as opposed to a receipt given to Gamestop pre-orders. It says "limited edition" on the box. If the time rolls around where you're looking to pick up a copy, you may want to see if you can find one of those. They said they're only allowed to sell those to people with reserves, but I'm sure they'll be selling them after the first week.

*correction, packaged with the disc, inside of it.

  10. Yeah, I'm pretty sure the first one was $40 on account of it not having a 1P mode, so I'm expecting this one to be $60. Don't quote me on that though. Good news for me, as I was pretty let down by Warhawk not having a 1p campaign. It sucks that this game might have been cheaper without it (and in turn more accessible), but oh well. I'm happy to give them my $60, which is not something I do often.
  11. Did you ever find anything out on that topic Dean? I'm about to put a few dollars down on this game this weekend. I won't be able to invest heavy hours for a couple of weeks still, but I really want in on this game @ ground level. Feel free to send a PSN inv anyone, PristineSneakers.
  12. I woke up with this stuck in my head. Misery loves company, so.... I apologize if this is stuck in anyone's head later, even though it is actually my master plan for the day. I'm no reggaeton fan by any means, but there are tunes here and there. This wasn't just my favorite San Juan Sounds song in GTAIV, but one of my favorite tunes in the game.
  13. Armored Core V. That is all.

  15. Yeah, I was more psyched for Sorcery before that last trailer. The initial release was cool, and the revamped version they first started showing a few months back had me really interested, but this new one... I'm hoping it doesn't set a new standard in adventure simplicity. It seems like it's geared at too young of an audience.
  16. http://nerdreactor.com/2012/04/12/capcom-wants-you-to-pay-70-80-for-resident-evil-6/ I can't wait for the incident that finally makes gamers collectively turn their backs on Capcom. This doesn't seem like the one to do it, but they get bolder and bolder as time goes on. Something has to give eventually.

Personally I believe game pricing needs to be dynamic. It needs to start somewhere.

    3. Mal

      Mal

Well, I can certainly wait out that price until it becomes lower. I want to play RE6, unless it really is crap, but I won't buy it at full price if they make it that high.

    4. TheMightyEthan

      TheMightyEthan

I agree it needs to become dynamic, but I'm skeptical that it will ever happen. Books, movies, and music aren't terribly dynamic in their pricing either.

  17. What Jack said. It's difficult to gauge how one might take to FPSs with the Sharpshooter, so I would (and did) wait for that sale to come along. Personally, I didn't play KZ3 with it for too long before I dropped the thing like a hot potato and threw holy water on it. Yantelope touched on much of the difficulty of it in his description. Maybe not difficult for some, but it tied me in knots. When I told my friend about it though (who champions the Sharpshooter), he actually suggested I tried it again, only sitting down. It sounded strange to me at first, but he told me that by resting the bottom of it on my leg I'd alleviate a lot of the trouble I was having with keeping steady while guiding myself on foot. I do plan on giving it another shot, as I've heard it can be a rewarding experience for one who can adjust to it. The Sharpshooter itself really well built though. I'm so fond of it that I'm still happy with my purchase despite not having had a minute of fun with it yet. I'm hoping I can make it happen eventually. In general I'm kind of let down by the lack of (what I personally see as) proper support for Move. I got to liking Sports Champions a lot, and it makes great use of Move and showcases it as a very capable device. So far my experiences outside of SC have been a bit lackluster though, or they were fun because the games are good, and not so much because it is the superior or more fun input method to a DS. I have yet to start playing Infamous 2 though, nor R.U.S.E. or RE5, so there is still hope in my library. I'm really looking forward to Sorcery though. While it might not be "the best" (optimal?) use of that type of control, it does look fun, and it's a nice step towards creating more hardcore(ish) games that are built around Move. I totally approve of their decision to delay it and give it a shot in the arm, it looks like a much more fleshed out experience. I also read recently that the team that developed SC is making another Move game, though I'm not sure they announced what it is yet. That might be something to look out for.
  18. PAX is a blast. Boston, not so much. It's gorgeous here, and full of cool places to eat and hang out, but they all shut down so early >

Boston is an odd place. Massachusetts as a whole is a riddle wrapped in an enigma contradicting itself. It's very liberal and yet very conservative at the same time.

    3. FredEffinChopin

      FredEffinChopin

Yeah, and the hours of operation don't seem to effect Boston's status as a party city, because places were absolutely packed... And rowdy as hell. The outside of our hotel there saw 3 separate brawls on a single block brewing at the same time; right after 2pm. They might actually benefit from moving to the 4am model that NY (and I) subscribe to... Let these people wear themselves out or something.

    4. FredEffinChopin

      FredEffinChopin

@Battra I had a hard time putting my finger on that myself. I had always heard jokes about it being a bit minority-unfriendly over there, and even had a couple of experiences that might support that, yet the place seemed pretty darned ethnically diverse to me. Maybe just the Chinatown area is like that?... I don't know. It is a strange place though. Very nice despite s few minor gripes and confusing/conflicting features.

  19. He has impressed us with his importance. His dark eyes and round head too. Perhaps one day he would like to come ROLLING with us.
  20. Sounds like they're still huffing the Wii-glue. What they're saying is technically true. There are certainly games from the 8-bit era that I believe are better then current games. That doesn't mean that being at a hardware disadvantage is an asset by any means though. They're gambling a lot on this tablet being able to bring more to the table for gaming than updated hardware. It's weird, it's like they announced this system with all this talk about catering to "U" hardcore people, but they're still reluctant to go head-to-head with the consoles that give that crowd (something closer to) what they want. They're still trying to re-invent the controller on everyone, which is cool, but risky when you're making it the main feature of your console. It's going to be a hard sell for me. Not impossible, but rough. While I don't see the controller as a big asset to gaming, it's totally possible that I just haven't thought of many possibilities. We'll see.
  21. With so many next-gen console rumors running around, it's a real shame that not a single one of them sounds any good.

  23. Flu. First one in over 20 years. I must say, it's taken me down a notch. I'm talking pride, btw. Anyone who saw me writhing around and calling God would have (rightly) split a rib laughing at me. I don't know how some people deal with this on a yearly basis. Thank God I'm almost done....

yeah, the flu sucks hard. I got it about 2 years ago and was sitting in a steaming hot bath shivering and complaining how cold it was.

Oh lord, that's the one... The temperature. I was afraid I'd chip a tooth from all the chattering. Between that, the dizziness, and the pain in every joint of my body... I'm just grateful it's over, save for some coughing up. I can't imagine having gone through anything remotely like this for a month.
