  1. Very cool. I understand it's in the early stages, but whether it's a News tab, a News Folder in the forums or whatever other form it takes, I'm looking forward to commenting on stories here if there's a way to make it work. :-)
  2. Cool! I was actually thinking of an individual thread for each article. Even if I didn't comment on each one, I'd probably check them all out if someone here thought they were potentially thread worthy. (Assuming that people wouldn't create a post for just any article, just the ones they really thought were worth reading...like you said, similar to the 11 year old article) As for an RSS feed on this site, that'd be awesome. It'd be even more awesome if each RSS post came with a link to create a thread for comments on that article, or, if a thread already existed, to jump to and comment in that thread. :-)
  3. I have a request/suggestion: I'm looking at all the sites, and I'm thinking, "Man, there's no way I have the time, nor inclination to canvass all of those sites for those articles I'd really like to see." Is there any chance we can make a Gaming News folder where people can post short quotes or summaries of article, linking to the source, and let us find and comment on them that way? There's already a small bit of this going on, and honestly, I'd rather the the small number of threads for articles that are post worthy than have to go digging for it. Maybe I'm just being lazy, but I've already seen this with the 11-year-old charging a ton of money on XBLA with his mom's credit card and the autistic boy's mom coming out and admitting that he had cheated, and I'd love to see a place for those threads, as they'd be very interesting for me. :-) Edit: Dean's article link above is another good example.
  4. Why I stopped playing MNC: No locale-only search option, and living in Japan meant so many bad connections. Same reason I stopped playing BFBC2. Same reason I smiled ear-to-ear when I saw Locale Only search options in WaW and COD:BO. Seriously though, other than the connection issues, I thought MNC was a fantastic game, and absolutely incredible considering it was an XBLA FPS. Did not expect all that much, and was very pleasantly surprised.
  5. Whoo...If I had super busy, emotional, exciting and productive afternoons like this every day...I'd probably wish for a boring day once in a while. Tomorrow's a national holiday (Japan) and I'm looking forward to have three days with my family and four evenings with my buddies online. (Probably playing COD:BO the whole time. :-P)

Wait. Playing BLOPS with the family AND your buddies?

      Your family must be awesome.

      Hahaha. I wish.

Family while they're awake. BLOPS while the wife and kids are asleep.

  6. Everything I've heard about Magicka makes me think: - It's great - It plays very well with a console controller Is there any news about it coming to consoles? That sounds like an XBLA title I'd write down on my calendar.
  7. Very, very valid point you make there. I would also say there are a few Xbox Indie games that are also great and worth their asking price, and obviously Microsoft doesn't feel nearly as threatened by this as Nintendo does. The fact that a game like Shadow Complex or Braid can come out as a reasonably price XBLA title and be successful makes me happy. I know PC gamers have a lot of options, but to see console users supporting downloadable games at relatively reasonable prices when they offer a good amount of playability and a good gaming experience, I think it's a good sign for gaming.
  8. Still seeing the Ramirez avatar in the upper right hand corner and on my recent status update. My square watermelon is showing up on posts, but what do I need to do to get my watermelon everywhere that "peteer02" is?

Yeah I posted up in Tips n Tricks about it yesterday. I'm not sure on the point of double avatar either. But I like it means I have a consistent one, and one I can change when the mood strikes me.

Whoo! I am a green square watermelon again! Take that, Ramirez!

  9. Hmmm... I usually know what I'm getting into with non-sequel games, and I can't think of any non-sequel games I really hated. I mean, I even bought Oneechanbara vorteX at full price when it first came out here in Japan, and I beat the game while enjoying it...so I guess I'm not too harsh on games? But I really disliked GTAIV and stopped playing it after a few hours...neither the story nor trying to have fun just free roaming did anything for me. That was really disappointing because I really enjoyed GTA3 on PC, absolutely playing it to death. It was cartoonish and unrealistic, but that's what made it so fun. The fun was missing from GTAIV for me, and while I looked for it in as many places as I could think of, I couldn't find it. I also really disliked DOAX2. I owned DOA4, and had owned DOA and DOA2, so I figured when I saw DOAX2 on sale for $10, there had to be something redeeming there. No, there really wasn't. But the game I hated was Modern Warfare 2. Horribly written, buggy, short, unenjoyable single player, and a multiplayer experience that even if it wasn't plagued by horrible matchmaking and glitches was inferior to the two COD games to come before it. It even prohibited Party Chat from being used in the vast majority of multiplayer gametypes. That meant that after I'd more than decided I was done with the game, I still found myself unable to be in Party Chat with my friends if one or more of them were playing MW2. Usually, whether playing a multiplayer game (lots of SSFIV around that time) or a single player game, I'm almost always in Party Chat socializing with one or more of my friends while I play. MW2 is the one game that managed to adversely affect my gaming experience even after I'd stopped letting it anywhere near my 360.
  10. Oh man did I love that game. BTW, is it not possible to post an image without uploading it somewhere else first?
  11. I was always impressed with the yo-yo in Goonies II for the NES.
  12. Well said. Despite the cries (on the callofduty.com boards, no less) that anyone who prestiges faster than 24 hours a prestige is a cheater, even with my merely slightly above average level of play, I could consistently prestige in 18 hours of game time without double XP. Add in a prestige over the double XP weekend, and while it is a lot of COD time, it's not the 16+ days worth some people might imagine. And, while there are other games, 98% of my time online is playing with at least one other friend using Party Chat. It's the social aspect of the game that makes it so enjoyable for me. I have young two children and while I do play almost every day, my gaming, and basically my free time in general, is limited to those few hours after my wife and kids go to sleep. Jumping online with my friends while my family is asleep instead of heading out to meet them and leaving my wife and kids home alone...it just makes more sense for me to socialize with my friends online. It also helps that I can play with my brother who is in the states, and since we're on opposite sides of the earth (Japan), the dozen or so hours I've spent online with him over the last three months are a dozen hours of talking with a family member that I wouldn't otherwise have. So yeah, there are other games, but I'm actually having a lot of fun with the game itself, and at the same time, even if another game might be more fun without the social aspect, once you add the Party Chat with a group of friends in there, it's a pretty compelling proposition.
  13. Finally got around to registering here. Sorry it took so long. :-P Glad to be back.

  14. Two words: Gals Panic I remember playing that in arcades when I was studying abroad in Japan in 1997. Also, I do need to get around to trying Pac-Man DX. I enjoyed CE.
  15. I should be excited about this, right? I've heard good things, but I didn't pay much attention since it was on PC.
  16. Great follow up. I remember seeing the original article and thinking, "Yeah, I highly doubt Xbox can't tell the difference between autistic and cheating." Thanks for letting me know my hunch was right.
  17. Damn that kid is smooth! Pretty much. As a father of two, this definitely falls into the large pile of parenting fail that I see far too often. The good news is, he doesn't want the Xbox any more. Maybe mom can get him into sports and out of the house. One look at that photo and you can tell that's not a healthy physique for an 11-year-old.
  18. I actually hit 15th prestige two days ago in COD:BO. Might not sound like a big deal, but I was someone who played more than enough hours in COD4 and World at War, but was always reluctant to start over. I prestiged a handful of times in COD4 and 7 times in World at War, but I wasn't ever expecting to hit 10th in either game. So, while it's not a big deal to anyone else, once I realized that Black Ops was more COD4/WaW than MW2, I decided that this time around, I'd see if I could hit 15th.
