Genetos is free. The official site seems unresponsive right now (uh oh...) but if you're not a big player of 2D shoot 'em ups, it may change that - it eases you in and takes you through the evolution of the genre, while telling a very sorta "Rez: Area 5" story as you go. Other than that, definitely another vote for VVVVVV and Super Meat Boy if you don't have them on anything else. I prefer less known games, so I don't have much else to recommend... if you like Genetos, maybe the Touhou games from 6 or 7 onward (12 is really hard...) Hardcore Tetris guys like because you can tweak it to have the right rules and delays for your play style. Make it like an official game, or go crazy like this guy. I haven't tried it ye, but I have played , a trippy Tetris with glitchy effects and a habit of morphing into other classic arcade games while you play it. (Or if you're crazy, there's 3D autostereogram (Magic Eye) Tetris by 3Dimka. I actually couldn't see these things until I tried this game, now almost all of them work for me easily.)

Gravity Rush: The official thingamabob

Hey Gravity Rushers... How many of you fought this guy? I gave it a shot, but this was the first time I've seen the "Game Over" screen. I was actually just starting to think there's not much actual challenge in the game beyond wrestling with the controls but this guy kills me every single time, in two hits, is immune to super attacks and doesn't appear to take damage from anything else either. I went on without fighting him and later saw a slightly different looking one, but he was a wuss... I broke every orb on his body in one kick each and when I took a punch from him it did almost no damage. She's not kidding that this one isn't like the others! -
I don't know how Chromium handles disk formatting, but this is a general rule of thumb for USB sticks that is often skipped in tutorials. I'm going to assume you're using Windows 7, but most OSes have a way of getting the same results. Open a command shell. (run "cmd") From there, run "diskpart" At the "DISKPART>" prompt, type "list disk" You should be able to tell your flashdrive by size. So where "N" is the right number, type "select disk N". It'll tell you it's selected. Now "list partition" - there is probably only one. Just to be safe, look at the size. It should certainly be on the flashdrive if you selected the right disk. I'm going to assume your OS is on partition 1 for this... "select partition 1" "active" Now type "exit" - you're done! It is fine to do this with regular-use flashdrives as well - it doesn't really matter if the active partition only has videos and music on it or anything - it'll just fail to boot if you have your PC set to boot flashdrives and reboot with it inserted.

Yeah... I definitely agree popularity isn't justification for something. I guess what I was leaning toward by mentioning that it's a popular movement is that for one thing, when something becomes as commonplace as file sharing, punishing those who do it once it's so firmly established risks putting a mind boggling number of people behind bars. For something that is so difficult to prove the harm of, that seems seriously misguided to me. It's the proverbial "closing the stable door after the horse has bolted."

That's true of course. So are you saying they should arrest millions of people and make their lives hell for downloading some MP3s?

I knew they could go to jail for - I didn't realize this was new... Still crazy though - and if you're prosecuted in Japanese court, you are probably going to be found guilty too. Don't get me started on ... There's a lot of cool stuff in that country, but their justice system is pretty draconian. (Then, look a the crime rate... you could pass out drunk at a train station and wake up with your wallet intact. But when laws ban popular movements like this, it starts to get crazy.)

Like anime, it definitely has some crazy fans. I'm not fond of the ones who constantly spam memes or fawn over characters, but it's such a big movement I find I can really pick and choose the ones to pay attention to (to be fair, a lot of it has become memeception. It's impossible to explain a lot of them without getting WAY in depth.) I mostly dig .As for pandering... that's puzzling in the extreme. You must really hate most anime and games then? They mostly dodge overused stereotypes that seem so prevalent in manga and games now. One thing I found really refreshing about the characters was the now unheard-of levels of modesty and lack of pandering, so maybe you're confusing fan works with the real thing? Or is it just that they're girls? The official stuff is about on par with . Anyway, I have the feeling not much will come of this, so... here's an ancient relic I found on my hard disk last night... didn't know I still had the MP3!

duuuude... I have over 1600 songs in my library that technically started in bullet hell games. It's like an infection, haha... But just to throw a curveball, I'm gonna post something that's not from Touhou Project this time since I'm always doing those.

Gravity Rush: The official thingamabob

Thanks - that's encouraging. I was worried it might take too long to get good at it, or I was just sucking and that it might hold me back... So far, it FEELS really hard, but I'm still not in much risk of actually failing, so maybe it's just awkward but doable. -

Wow... that's crazy. I'm just several missions in so far, but I'm still finding it really hard to move gracefully from point to point. I'm always crashing into and through things, doing kicks straight past nevi that simply sidestep, and doing throws that result in the object just shattering in front of me instead of taking flight... I hope it starts to feel a bit smoother soon because I am not having much luck with that game. How many missions did you have to do before controlling it started to feel natural? (edit: grammar may be optional, but I think this post works better with it...) -

Oh wow... My parents had a single of the orignal(?) by . I used to love it as a kid... and when you flipped the record over, the label was printed in mirror image and it played the song backwards! (Still, not quite as crazy as Monty Python's Matching Tie and Handkerchief record, which had 3 sides - when you flipped it, sometimes it'd play side B, sometimes C, depending which track the needle found...) This is FAKE?, the group with a Googleproof name, haha... (look for album titles, not band name!) an awesome friend from my MMO days told me about them (sup, ML?) I didn't expect to like them as much as I did, but they really caught on me after a little bit. Usually it's more hard rock, but it varies a fair bit too - Ken Lloyd of Oblivion Dust and Atom on Sphere seems to use this project to experiment a bit so it's kinda eclectic.

Yeah, it's not a unique product. I read some comparisons and went with it over HeyTell, which I read was ad-supported. It looks similar to TiKL, just a bit more polished and it seems to be making lots of buzz lately.

I found a neat cross platform VOIP app called "Voxer" - you keep a friend list like any other IM client, but rather than opening a constant 2-way connection, you "push to talk" like some older cell phones. So it has the simplicity and speed of voice, but the asynchronicity of text messages. Seems pretty cool and apparently it's growing fast in some demographics but I haven't convinced anyone to try it yet... A few caveats: Their staff may see some messages, like XBL or PSN, and by default you share your location and can be found by name search (whatever you choose to tell them) which can lead to chats from random strangers. Both of these can be turned off easily though, so you'll only be found by email address. They also ask to see your address book to match you to other users in your contacts, but that's easily refused too.

I think it's... boldly rudimentary. Like, if they'd made Windows 3.1 look like that, they'd probably have said "we can't ship it like that - we can do much more! At least add a little 3D effect to some of the widgets!" But I guess it's kind of like the 2D game resurgence - they no longer have anything to prove, so they're free to make things as simple as they feel like. Personally I'd prefer Aero or even the WinXP theme manager. At least Metro looks... clean? To me, there's just no aesthetic tangibility - it no longer feels like a representation of materials and objects, just boundaries on a 2D plane.

Well, you could really hold back and wait for it - for all the defending I'm doing of their logic in the other thread, I'm not trying to sell it... If you need a big library to be satisfied, it'll be there later, and the price may even drop in time. Personally for me: The screen is sharp, bright, crisp and gorgeous. Even on the dimmest setting the contrast is great because black is almost perfectly black on an OLED. Downside - it might burn in if something stays on it long enough; they don't say that, but other SAMOLEDs have done so... The battery is on par with a PSP in my experience. That is, around 5-6 hrs without intensive wi-fi and it can sleep for over a week. My 3DS gets 1/3 to 1/2 that, and under 1/5 in sleep (Wi-fi on,) respectively. I only have 4 cartridges right now: Wipeout 2048: If you're a Wipeout fan, you'll get this anyway. They did a great job - it's like WoHD enough that it can play against it. Great soundtrack as usual. I'm not playing a huge amount, for some reason, but what I play, I like. Also gorgeous graphics. Unit 13: I'm super sick of shooters, but the tactics are great in this. You can do every non-timed mission like a stealth op, and if you lose stealth... just take cover and shoot the guys. It's a tactical stealth cover shooter, basically. I can't believe how much I've played this, but then I never got into SOCOM so maybe it's all this good? Some common issues exist in this too though - like screwing up unmissable grenade lobs and landing nades at your own feet. Also, the "leap over cover" button appears on-screen next to the right stick, so I've lost a lot of firefights by aiming a bit left and leaping into bullets. Still, lots of fun. Metal Gear Solid HD collection: I barely made it into MGS2 - I suck. This is a chance to fix that! (if I could just get off the forum!) If you've beaten them, I guess this would have less pull. If you have it on PS3, you can transfer your savegames over Wi-fi. It also has the old Metal Gear 1 and 2 games. It does not have MGS 1, or the PSP game, but does include VR missions. Gravity Rush: You know. I just picked it up, but the demo was fun. Oh, they're also doing some good stuff with , including really promising stuff , though only time will tell if they put it to good use.

If they're soft subs, you could get a demuxer for whatever format it's in (MKV, I'd guess?) to pull them out, and maybe a subtitle tool to make them into .SRT format. Then in Handbrake, just make sure you always go to the Subtitles tab and make sure the subtitles are either added, or added and burned-in. (iPhone can actually do subs as captions - it's not bad...) The interface of this program is a bit dumb - it only keeps track of one folder for source and destination, so if you open a file, set it up, add it to the queue, and go to open a new source file, you'll be browsing ones in the destination folder. So I like to set up one file, then open a new source file and just manually rename the destination file each time so it keeps looking in the source folder when I open a new file. On the flip side... it's really great at taking advantage of a multi-core CPU to encode quickly!

So IE 10 "Metro" on Win8 will not come with plugins... but Flash will be an inherent part of the browser. (I guess IE was getting too secure for a while or something... )
