  1. http://online.wsj.co...IDDLETopOpinion "In a Washington Post op-ed, Jose Rodriguez, a CIA veteran and author of the new book "Hard Measures: How Aggressive CIA Actions After 9/11 Saved American Lives," concedes that Obama "deserves credit for making the right choice." But he notes that like the moon landing, the killing of bin Laden was merely the culmination of an effort that predated the incumbent's arrival in the White House by years: "[Obama's] administration never would have had the opportunity to do the right thing had it not been for some extraordinary work during the George W. Bush administration." Rodriguez notes further that "much of that work has been denigrated by Obama as unproductive and contrary to American principles." actually, this quote is better: "I don't mind the president taking a victory lap but this was, well, unpresidential. With the Dems' recent history of being defense pushovers, the folks in the White House are acting like a geek everyone thought would never lose his virginity but unexpectedly did. And, with the hottest chick in school. "That's right, I nailed Osama." "Here's the room where it happened." "That was the chair I was sitting in.""
  2. Well, that article may be unfairly representing the Occupy movement but I've been reading a lot of stories of general mischief and criminal behavior about Occupy memebers in addition to all the arrests so I don't think it's unfair to make a claim about the group at large. The point is there is evidence that the Occupy group has a good number of delinquents associated with it while the Tea Party did not.
  3. Oh, there's been plenty of criminals arrested with the occupy movement. How many people with the Tea Party got arrested? How many were suspected of Terrorism?
  4. Who always enters the final boss battles with 50 elixers because you're always saving them until you need them and then you're on the final boss and overpowered and you realize you never used them.
  5. I don't think the filibuster is helpful though. You already have elected representatives in the House which are based on population. The senate has 2 people from each state regardless of population on purpose to protect the interest of each individual state and by removing the simple majority vote from the senate you've removed some of the power of the smaller states. That's the point of the bicameral legislature. If they didn't care about protecting the smaller states there wouldn't be a senate to begin with.
  6. Well, more or less, thanks to due process and whatnot you have to actually get these guys to commit the crime before you can put them on trial for it. Rather than let them walk and find a real terrorist who can sell them real bombs the FBI poses as terrorists, sells them fake bombs and when they actually attempt to bomb a bridge they can be placed on trial and convicted and locked up. The same thing happened in Dallas a year or two ago where a guy tried to bomb a skyscraper with a fake car bomb the FBI gave him. Edit: Here's the Dallas one. http://www.nbcdfw.com/news/local/FBI-Arrests-Man-Accused-in-Skyscraper-Bomb-Plot--61272512.html
  7. It's kind of amazing really how the media smeared the Tea Party despite having very little evidence of any wrongdoing and accusations of racism and yet Occupy is supposedly a grassroots movement of the highest pedigree despite being filled with criminals and lowlifes. http://www.cleveland.com/obrien/index.ssf/2012/05/occupys_image_blown_to_smither.html
  8. I want to see a study done if people who park in spots closer to the store tend to stay in the store longer than people who park further away.

I know that seems like an obvious answer, but think of it as though while one car left and two cars arrived, it would only seem like a single car arrived.

but I feel like I see cars pulling out of the far spots far more frequently than the close spots and I wonder if people think "wow I got the close spot, I'm going to use it for a while" and they stay in the store longer. I've heard at least one person say he actually does this but I bet others do it subconsciously.

Someone might factor in how long it would be to walk through a mall's parking lot, so they overestimate the time and leave sooner. If you're close, people will see it as just exiting the building so when they're done shopping, they see it as "done" rather than "now walk to the car." That's my assumption anyway, but it also depends on whether someone is browsing or shopping for specific items.

    Apple

I don't understand why they would do it. Does the game stream assets from EA servers or something? Don't they usually just pull the app from the store and let people who already have it keep it?

Fair enough, I give EA credit for reversing their decision in light of public outcry.
  11. No, it's just the collecting of the anonymous data that I find irritating. Really though the other stuff is more what I don't like about Origin. It's horribly obtuse when using Battlefield and the whole thing serves to make BF3 a far worse experience than it would have been without it. If Battlelog existed solely as a website and was not required to play the game like Bungie.net I'd be fine with it. Bungie.net is great. Even COD elite is a separate site that's not required. Why EA insisted on forcing you to use a horrible web based system which is constantly needing updating is beyond me but that you have to launch origin to launch battlelog to wait 5 minutes until the game itself finally launches and if you want to change any settings in the game you have to do it while the game is live. It's a terrible terrible system which hampers a great game. Yes I know battlelog and Origin are not the same. Honeslty my beef is a bit more with Battlelog than it is with Origin but I still don't much care for EA's catchalls about we're going to collect whatever data we want and you can't opt out without sending in a physical letter. It's just kind of jerkish. Not a huge deal but annoying nonetheless. If it were a huge deal I wouldn't have bought BF3 at all. For the record, I don't use very many other direct download sites which use clients either. I only ever got into steam because the prices were so low I didn't mind selling out some of my rights because for $5 if I lost access to the game down the road it was probably still worth the $5 to me.
  12. Pretty much this is all I buy anymore.

    Apple

That's how I read that too. Still pretty scary that they even tried it to begin with.
  14. Yeah, but there was some more language than just that.

    Apple

Well, I put it in here because Apple was still selling it on the store even though it was going to be dead soon. I suppose that might not have been their fault because they might not have known.
  16. Oh that whole section about how they reserve the right to collect any and all data they want. Maybe that's the EULA, I misspoke.

    Apple

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2012-05-02-rock-band-ios-no-longer-playable-after-31st-may How is it possible that you can be denied playing a game you already purchased through no fault of your own? What crap business.
  18. Yeah, I find it really hard to believe that they get a considerable number of sales at the $60 price point 6 months after release for a digital game. The whole thing is just very perplexing to me.
  19. I figured you would Mr. Lawyer.
  20. I believe the filibuster is an implied power and I believe it's unintended. I believe the original intent was for a simple majority to be enough in the senate and not being able to pass legislation with a simple majority is an obstruction to legislation in general. I am not a fan of implied powers like judicial review. The other thing that needs to go away: Gerrymandering.
  21. There was some senator, Ethan would probably know his name, I forget, who took to reading long passages from the bible all night long to prevent a passage of a bill.
  22. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fillibuster Basically you talk and talk to stall a vote until a bill dies in congress.
  23. Well, now you can be banned from the forums without being banned from the game, or so I'm told. So far the winning comment is this: "(1) I like the uninstaller. (2) Please add a feature to purchase and play EA games through Steam."
  24. Hence the word Technically. For the record, Oliver North only makes me think of the Malcolm in the Middle episode where Colonel Spangler makes them sing "candyman" in preparation for a visit from Oliver North.

    Apple

That's the thing that bewilders me about Apple. It's only successful because of the crazy eccentric OCD leader and his "my way or the highway" approach to everything. For some reason that appeals to people and I personally can't stand it.
