  1. IIRC it just had a few training scenarios you could play to learn the basics.
  2. A swap meet is a large gathering usually held at a dedicated swap meet grounds or a drive-in theatre, parking lot, etc. Vendors set up tents or tarps and sell both new and used goods, sometimes with a theme like car parts, electronics, or just a general meet. Usually a nominal fee to get in. It sounds similar to a carboot but perhaps more people and businesses who do it full time versus just private parties selling stuff?
  3. Grabbed this one for a few dollars at the thrift shop. Should be good for family nights.
  4. You blokes STILL haven't told me what exactly a carboot is And Dean, I used to have that MTG starter set. Thought the CD that came with it was really cool at the time.
  5. Hard to do on a lot of PC games, unfortunately.
  6. I like it. It's a little funky but it makes me remember the Gamecube and get all nostalgic and fuzzy feeling.
  7. Yeah Last Night on Earth is similar. The first scenario is totally weighted for the heroes, whereas the others are pretty difficult for them to win.
  8. My son's friend has every Skylanders character and accessory... Adds up to about $320 of "DLC" to get all the in-game content. Yeesh.

One parent I know bought his kids a new Skylander almost weekly. Probably would have spent more, but scarcity kept his spending at bay. Now, Target is overloaded with Skylander stuff since the craze has dipped a little.

Your kid isn't into skylanders right? "But Daaaaaaaad, Jimmy has that oneeeeeeeeeeeee"

  9. That's essentially why I bought it. A $20 Amazon warehouse deal as an add-on to my $37 Last Night on Earth order wasn't too bad a pickup. I like the game quite a bit and rated it a 7.5/10 on BGG's rating system. The biggest problem in my opinion is that it's deterministic at times: draw the right cards and win, draw the wrong cards and lose. When it works though, it isn't always obvious what the best play is, and it's really enjoyable when that happens. Some people complain of its being too easy, but my 3-player game ended in defeat and I've only won solitaire once or twice. It may get easier in proportion to the number of players, since you have a greater pool of cards to pick from. Anyway, not the most complex game to ever hit the table but pretty unique and worth the low price tag.
  10. I've added to my collection recently. Something about the naked mechanics of board games and the physicality of it all really appeals to me. I've picked up the following: Last Night on Earth (think L4D the board game) Warcraft the Board game & expansion pack Castle Panic (co-op tower defense) Prolix (word game) Sword & Skull (Monopoly/Talisman pirate hybrid) Apples to Apples (can't pass up a copy at the thrift shop) Tetris Link Killer Bunnies ("zany" type card game. $2 thrift shop) I'm thinking of trading off the Game of Thrones card game though =/ My wife is just not into it.
  11. That looks really good. I'm excited to play one of my favorite games in what is essentially a free "HD" re-release.
  12. I only finished Bastion. I did not come close on Skyward Sword, only beat the Lanayru mining facility.
  13. Great deal that is. I need to get around to buying the Simpsons seasons.
  14. It's blowin' peace and freedom, it's blowin' equality. It's blowin' peace and freedom, it's blowin' you and me! My wife threw away my VHS so I was ecstatic to find the DVD for $2 at a thrift store. Then grabbed: on the way out for another $2.
  15. In the case of a revolution, you cannot assume the entire military would side with the government. Depending on the causes and the amount of support a hypothetical revolution would have, fractions of the military would certainly fight alongside the citizens and flat-out refuse to target American people. Remember, they're our sons, daughters, brothers and sisters.
  16. The intros in breaking bad are better than most full shows.

  17. I found Batman Begins more enjoyable with each watch, but it is very blatant with its themes. ("In case you didn't catch the THEMES we're throwing at you, here's more THEME with the THEME hammer smashed down on your head. THEEEEME!") I believe TDK was the same, but I've only seen it once so I can't comment on that very well or TDKR yet. And frig man, Avengers had some good stuff beyond the action. Iron Man learning to be a "team player" (though it was foreshadowed pretty bluntly early on), Captain America learning to adapt to a new, different America. I went in with the hype engine running full-bore and it still delivered.
  18. And my new life has begun!!! --- The person below me must post in Ebonics.
  19. Elder Sign is great, but not child-friendly. There is Blokish, a free clone of abstract strategy game Blokus. Very easy to pickup, lots of subtle strategy. Kid-friendly. There is an official Catan game I believe, can be good for kids depending on their skill level. There is an official version of Carcassone, also kid-friendly and easy to pick up. Consult this list on Boardgamegeek for more: http://boardgamegeek.com/geeklist/72020/android-versions-of-actual-boardgames
  20. Black. As bold as can be. I will take creamer once in a blue moon however.
  21. Picked up for Android. Usually don't pay for apps, but $4 to test out a normally $35 board game is a pretty decent deal.
