with the latter portion of this comment, I'm guessing the Max Temkin situation, and not the Conor Oberst situation. That's a complicated bag. Temkin says they never had sex, but that leaves a lot open that could also be rape or sexual assault. I think its best to not jump to conclusions: whether they be calling "Magz" an attention whore, gold digger, or calling Temkin a rapist. Temkin says he reached out to her, which she acknowledges in her blog post saying she sent a draft of said post in response. Her comment that she's received no response seems like she's willing to have some sort of dialogue with him; hopefully they do and from viewing each other perspective on the relationship and events within it come to a mutual understanding. Temkin says he's grown since college, and the actions of the CAH team seem to display that (the 'fuck transphobia' event, their holiday bullshit charity, etc). Per the boycott: CAH is composed of more than Temkin, and yes he is a co creator. But I'm not sure that boycotting the game to target him is the right way to go, considering a lot of good has come from the company (see above for just a few examples). The thing that bothers me has been the reaction to his apology. At first read it sounded all right, but at the same time, as I read some of the interpretations of it I could understand some of the frustration. Some of it. Calling the fact that he mentions he's spoke to lawyers but doesn't want to pursue a suit disgusting doesn't sit too well with me. I read that inclusion as if he was cutting that part of the conversation off early. Nine time out of ten when its regarding something remotely litigious the first piece of advice people give is to "lawyer up." By him stating he's met with lawyers it seems to me like he's acknowledging he already did so, but doesn't want to go that route. I mentioned Conor Oberst's situation for a reason, his accuser recently recanted, but not before Oberst filed a 1 million dollar suit against her. Jezebel's pieces on Oberst's suit all seem journalistic instead of editorial -- and when they go editorial they never blast Oberst for his suit. Why the backlash for Temkin saying he met with them yet doesn't want to pursue it?

When people take griefing and the internet too far and it affects your life. Namely, Swatting. It's stupid, and extremely dangerous (Warning: that link is super disturbing, and not related to swatting but the increasing danger of swat tactics in American police force). I came across the twitter accounts of people who claim responsibility for the swatting on the linked article, and they like to brag about swatting twitch streamers. It's disgusting and tempting fate. Stephen Toulouse, former Director of Xbox Live Enforcement says he has been swatted a number of times, stemming from bannings. This practice needs to stop before someone gets killed.

the writers strike and NBC execs changing the format of the show is what brought the quality down. The creators wanted Heroes to be an anthology, with each season focusing on new characters and a new plot, like True Detective will be. But the fan support of characters like Hiro made NBC demand that the characters be constant. So they had to change it all up, then the strike happened.

ugh yea I remember now. I think I was happier forgetting.

Ah okay. Well, I meant "download" on my PSP and not "purchase" if you're picking up what I'm throwing down here...

Re: the Thor thing. The sexist/knee jerk diatribe (I'm not saying all the backlash is rooted in sexism, but a good portion is) that's been coming from this is another illustration of why I largely hate comic fans. They do stuff like this all the time, how many times has Batman not been Bruce Wayne? Or Spider-Man Peter Parker? I'm surprised and pleased that Miles is still UltSpidey. Certainly the fact that female readers are the fastest expanding market for comic readers is no coincidence, but even then the fact that Jason Aaron is writing should make it clear it's going to be a quality book. Side note: read Southern Bastards. All of you. The announcement isn't going to give everything away, it's to drum up interest, which I'd say it succeeded well. The questions I'm sure will be answered in the current Thor title and the new one. I'm looking forward to being able to buy comics weekly again.

Mine was laughably light-- the public defender actually laughed and asked "who the fuck pursues this" when he went over it. When I was arrested I had enough cash on me for bail and my plea bargain was 6 months *unsupervised* probation, a fine and it was expunged from my record. I never made it past booking area. It stemmed from a thing just after I was 18, and arrested at 20, just shy of the statute of limitation. And as per cops: yeah. Typically pricks. I've been pulled over just because I was out late, a light was "too yellow", had a cop pull a u turn and follow me 2 miles to my driveway, told a car that matched my description was at a drug house and insisted they search my car when I was on my way to work, had a flashlight shone in my face and told my eyes were red ("maybe because there's a bright light being shone in them at the moment, officer.") I've had a friend get a gun pulled on him during a traffic stop before he even did anything... Like he was pulled over (during a snowstorm) and the officer came out of his car gun drawn. Even hearing stories my father in law has (retired PD)--- cops are bastards. And I'm white. Don't even get me started on the stuff that's happened to friends and acquaintances that are pocs.

Because it's wrong! And forbidden! Also: so I take it I'm the only one on the forum that's been arrested? That's surprising/disappointing. But from my experience: cops are dicks.

Bioware, for reasons stated. I'll add: Criterion. Burnout Revenge > Burnout Paradise > Burnout Crash? Sure they went and injected new life into the Need For Speed franchise, but you know what Hot Pursuit made me want? Revenge 2. JUST GIVE US A BURNOUT REVENGE 2 / BURNOUT 4. -
I wondered the same thing after seeing some tweets about it but after reading a few articles, it sounds like that's an actual thing. an actual thing in the movie. what the fuck.

Well prior to owning any console my first video game was most likely my Dad's old Coleco Galaxian Tabletop Arcade cabinet. Then for Christmas in 89-91.. somewhere in there... I got the NES with Mario and Duck Hunt. I remember fondly playing Ninja Turtles, Mario 3, many games on NES. 92 or so we got a SNES at my Mom's place, so when I was there I got to play the MK series, Aladdin (I never played the Genesis version, so the SNES is all I know), Super Mario World, one of my favorite games of all time, and still the best Mario game. I had an Uncle who had the Genesis, and later the Sega CD, so before I even played the SNES Mortal Kombat, I knew the blood code, the joy of the good Sonic games, and playing FMV and arcade shooters at home. He later had a Turbographix 16 (BONK!) and even a Neo Geo. While I was living with my Mom (I was switched back and forth a lot) we got a PlayStation, and I fell in love. Crash, Tekken, Spyro, and of course Metal Gear Solid. Tekken 2 and 3 was a family affair in my house; even my Mom would get in the rotation. When Mom and her husband split, he took the PlayStation with him, and by that time I had my first job, so my first console I bought with my own money was... an N64 from a pawn shop. I was caught up in the GoldenEye craze, but ultimately regretted choosing it over another PlayStation. At least I could get the N64 versions of THPS. 2002 I bought a PS2 from a high school acquaintance, had few games for it since I was just starting out on my own and was very very broke. GTA3 was the biggest time consumer back then I remember. As time progressed I got a few more games. Oddly my first FF game was FFX... in 2004. Then in 2005 my then roommate's girlfriend sold me an Xbox for $50, and I got xbox live and Halo 2. It especially came in handy when a good friend of mine moved out of state about a year later... it's how we still communicate and "hang out" to this day. I worked at a now defunct major electronics store when the 6th gen launched, and I remember Amped and DOA demos really intriguing me on the xbox... I really wanted to play more DOA. So I got DOA ultimate and DOA3 as well. I remember playing and forgoing food for a number of hours unlocking that "bonus disc" of DOAU. 2006 I got a xbox 360... mainly because of Dead Rising. That was a system seller to me. 2006 I also got my first handheld-- a PSP -- as a Valentine's Day gift from my girlfriend. 2007 I had quit my job in favor of my current one, and a number of months later got an unexpected check in the mail, around the same time they announced the PS3 price drop, so I got one, along with Ninja Gaiden Sigma, Lair, and later Heavenly Sword I think were the first games I remember owning for the system. I really liked Heavenly Sword. Early 2007 is also when I got a Wii for my wife's birthday, she really wanted one; it was when supply was scarce, so I would hit up the stores every morning after work (I was on night shift) until I came across one. I only missed her birthday by a few days I think. 2008 is when I built my first computer, I got a 9600 GT a week or so after they came out. Prior to that I had a prebuilt HP that I had maxed out the gpu slot because the motherboard was only a PCI, not PCI-E. I also owned an alienware laptop prior to building that pc. That was a waste of money. I ended up selling it to a friend, and I believe it still runs... somewhat.

Isn't he talking about killing others though? Sure there's a lot other tools to kill others but it takes a lot more effort / skill to do it that way, and you have a higher chance of surviving a knife attack, for instance.

my first cell phone was a Nokia 5110 -- the one with removable faceplate and button pad.

the town I lived in didn't get cable until had moved back to the city so, 6th, 7th grade ('95-ish). From 2nd to 5th grade (except when I was displaced) I had PBS and whatever over the air channels we could pick up, except when I'd visit my Mom. edit: and talking about the technology, I remember in high school I was living with an aunt and she'd get mad that when I went out with friends she had no way of contacting me because we'd go from place to place, typically all public places with no real phone line to call. (she was paranoid. like super paranoid) Cell phones were in their infancy / super expensive, and pagers were still slightly a thing, so I suggested me getting a pager. She said no because of the "stigma" (drug dealers) associated with them.

PBS then syndicated to local channels. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bill_Nye_the_Science_Guy http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Where_in_the_World_Is_Carmen_Sandiego%3F_(game_show) I remember Bill Nye being on our local ABC channel I think it was but I also watched him on PBS. I don't remember Carmen Sandiego being on anything but PBS, personally.
