It was fun, maybe once I finish some other games from my backlog I'll go back and start a new game+ playthrough

If you get some gold pine resin (available in one of the houses in the undead burg*), the falling attack does a ton of damage, just went through that area, used the method FLD described combined with the lightning effect of the gold pine resin and it took almost half of his health (using a club without any upgrades), after that I just had to use 3 black firebombs (you get 5 in the house below the dudes that are throwing firebombs at you, the path you take from the undead burg bonfire) to kill him.

I wouldn't worry too much about it for now.

For exploring, you can use EP to freeze time, you'll still be able to talk to people, complete quests, all that stuff, just the clock will stop moving for a while, you can also use EP for other skills during battle, but it's main use IMO is to freeze time allowing you to explore, complete quests and do other stuff without worrying about wasting a day, EP is acquired by defeating enemies.
