  1. is this real? do you actually use this? You don't understand, really, but it's more of the fact that I hardly ever use my desktop at all other than just a transitory dumping ground. I always just launch my apps through a launcher (I use Alfred) and my frequent use of different desktop spaces and window access finding (Spaces and Exposé, respectively) always just hides the desktop away from my view most of the time. I just forget about my desktop during my regular work. Ugh, my brain of thought is slipping.
  2. Always the hopeless flustercluck it is, here is my desktop: Wallpaper is from here:
  3. It was more of a bittersweet compromise, to be honest. Bill Clinton, back when he was elected in 1992, wanted to turn over the ban on homosexuals in the military completely, similar to how Truman ordered the military back in 1948 to remove the segregation of blacks into their own battalions and to integrate immediately. (Of course, while the Pentagon gave the big thumbs-up, the actual process of carrying that out was messy and took years, but that's beside the point…) Clinton, however, ran into the problem of social conservatives and people in the military protesting this, and members in his own party were even coming close to desert him. DADT was a bittersweet compromise, in the sense that it technically gave both sides what they wanted, but it satisfied neither. The gay community saw the policy as demeaning and even then, still discriminatory (because they were not even allowed to speak up), while those who wanted gays banned in the military protested the DADT restraints (because they went too far, apparently). Hopefully, this answers your question. (For more information: http://www.npr.org/blogs/itsallpolitics/2010/12/18/132163478/ending-militarys-gay-ban-lets-obama-fulfill-another-clinton-promise)
  4. On a more serious note, while I am glad that DADT got repealed today, I'm a bit saddened that this was the only issue that the Republicans (or rather, just a few of them) were willing to leave their party's position and vote their opinions honestly. Meanwhile, the DREAM Act was killed a week ago through yet another Republican filibuster. Well, at least one of the good bills got passed. Let's hope for an upsurge in people willing to enlist in the armed forces, now that DADT's been repealed.
  5. In honor of today's repeal… I give you this tasteless song parody. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hO46cpow_BY After taking many minutes to play around with the wording, I don't regret typing any of the above one bit.
  6. Today, I shall begin negotiations for the release of my Playstation™ 3 console from the tyrannical grip of my parents' closet.

    Help!

Yeah, problem here. I have a custom name up for my posts: "Mudkip's 3DS". Problem is that the name gets truncated in Chat, and now I want to change it. But bigger problem is that I can't change my custom nick anywhere in my profile's settings. So… help, please? Also, I noticed that my Rich Text Editor was disabled just recently, so I tried enabling it again, and got this: "Your browser does not support RTE" even though it is based off of Safari 4 Webkit. So it SHOULD be compatible…

  10. So now I'm starting to wonder if the DREAM Act will ever get passed. I only have doubts.

  11. MT? IT? ST? FT? What do all of these abbreviations mean?! Agreed on the channels, though.
  12. One week in and I have 23 friends already. I feel like such a whore :(

  13. Getting too depressed from reading Watchmen. May just turn back to On Stranger Tides tomorrow to get my mind off things.

  14. This, right here. Seriously, I was almost completely absent for the two entire months of October and November; I felt the same way about the forums, too. This place, though… feels really fresh. Like starting over clean after washing all the semen off of the windows and seats. Only downside is that I can no longer access the NSFW threads on this place, compared to Old Country. (BTW this is a reference to the new NSFW section, New Vegas. You can ask Ethan, Dean, or Reicheru for permissions access.)
  15. Holy crap, Gyaruson finally comes back to us after like… so long? Welcome back
  16. Hold on, I'm going to fish a couple of videos out of my Classical playlist on YouTube… http://www.youtube.com/my_playlists?p=FA927061BBF53CDA This is a very epic piece by Georges Bizet that I've loved ever since I was a kid. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dTsM7VkXNec Honestly, this is the best rendition of Rustle of Spring that I've EVER heard. The impeccable speed of the intro played on the piano… I honestly haven't seen any other video of that play have that kind of repetition or graceful speed.
  17. Eww, white chocolate? Eww. Leaving only the Chocopecan ones for me to eat up. I have a VERY BAD weakness for Hot Cheetos, just for the normal kind. The Límon kind, while I absolutely love, is not as addicting for some reason. I think it's more of the fact that the regular Hot Cheetos are sweeter than the Límon kind, I think.
  18. Add an unlike button and this place will be hotter and more chaotic than ratings on GameTrailers or Engadget ever was.

  19. OH GOD MISTER JACK HAS 666 POSTS! RUN FOR THE HILLS!!

  20. Hey! This is Space Quest, man, part of the humor IMO was from the funny death messages you got from dying. I always used to try to find ways on how to kill Roger Wilco when I played Space Quest. Now, Police Quest on the other hand… THAT was a tremendously punishing game. If you didn't even follow just a little bit of standard police procedure, you "lost" the game. Ugh. I think the following kind of counts as an annoying death rather than horrific (unless you count green-colored flesh in EGA mode as "horrific" ). It just left you sitting there at the screen with nothing left to do. At least Sierra had the decency to pop up a "Restore/Restart/Quit" dialogue. (Also, I lol'd at the commands.) I'd post that OTHER Monkey Island "death" screen (where Guybrush falls off a cliff but bounces back on the top with a rubber tree), but I don't have that screencap, unfortunately.
  21. SORRY TO ABANDON YOU IN CHAT BRIDA I HOPE WE CAN STILL BE FRIENDS

  22. Ugh, live chat sucks. I'm going to organize my own telegraph party chat line, that'll teach you all to talk too fast.

  23. I've been curious about the Amiga lately, and have gotten quite an interest in how the machine worked. While it came way before my time, I'm quite impressed with how advanced and ahead of the time its graphics and soundchip were (sampled instruments, baby) compared to Windows and even the Mac. I'm jonesing for a response, so all I want to ask is if anyone here has ever owned one, and how'd you like it? To end this off on a cool note, here's a cool music video/demo feature I found that was made with an Amiga in 1992, apparently. EDIT: Should this be moved to PC, or stay in here? I'm more for keeping it in Retro, but do keep in mind that the Amiga was released as a home computer, so that's why I was thinking this should possibly have a chance in PC Gaming.
  24. Srsly when she wakes up in 3 hours this plate is gonna be a total shitstorm.
