  1. I don't see the point you're making here, Yant. With the traditional charity donation, you're still hoping for something out of it - be that your own good feeling or the benefit of others. You hardly go blindly dropping money in any box, do you? One would usually choose carefully where they donate their money, or so I've found. Kickstarter is no different. You're putting down your money in the hopes of seeing a result but you're not just looking for the result. You're also looking to give someone a chance to achieve that result. Yant, you've been circling around for most of the thread and dismissing the whole idea of Kickstarter as stupid. How is that posting real responses? You're getting really hung up on this investment/donation thing but it's been well explained to you what it is by now. Let's move past it.
  2. I thought the concept of Kickstarter was rather simple. After reading this thread, I'm not so sure anymore... I'm all for it personally. It helps to engender a much healthier relationship between the developer and the consumer. It's not like this is an entirely new concept either. I'm sure the Adams brothers are doing well enough for themselves with the help of those Dwarf Fortress donations. It's surely keeping them working on the game, I know that much. Oh look! I'm using Firefox! I'm sure I saw a donation button somewhere on their site. I wonder what they use that for? It also opens up great opportunities for budding developers, allowing them to stay true to a vision without the compromises of big business. To consider all that foolish or stupid is really narrow-minded.
  3. So I just watched Gintama 252 and I was like WTF?! It's over once again! How long will I have to wait this time? Will it be back?! WTF?! Gintama has become like a religion for me. Life will be bleaker without it. P.S. If you haven't watched Gintama or you think it's a load of balls - WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH YOU?! DON'T YOU HAVE A SOUL!
  4. PXOD Writers - an early draft of my next article is up on GDocs, I'd love to hear your thoughts on it.

  5. That's the battlelog forums for ya! Even mature, well structured complaints against the game come up against "QQ MORE!" posts and "STOP PLAYING THEN IF YOU DON'T LIKE IT!" or my favourite: "I just checked your stats and they say you suck therefore your argument is null and void." As for the USAS, or indeed any of the automatic shotguns with frag rounds, I find that they're easy enough to avoid - so long as you don't mistake them for a tank because the guys that use them usually don't consider the sound they make to be all that loud. So, next time you here "BOOM! BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!", run for cover.
  6. True. Very good method. Word! Adjustable DPI with a high DPI limit works wonders in Battlefield. My mouse is tuned for it. One for general infantry, one for ground vehicles, one for jet's, one for sniping, one for heli's....if only my mouse were a bit newer and the buttons for switching didn't stick. Guided shells and the CITV are awesome. Not enough public players use it.
  7. I thought they did fix the fall damage. The increased damage to tanks seems a bit extreme and the increased effects of suppression only serve to placate the noobs that can't shoot straight, bringing us all down to their level in a firefight but overall, it seems like some decent improvements have been made - Though you wouldn't believe that if you read the dreaded battlelog forums. Everyone's bitching over there....then again, everyone is ALWAYS bitching over there.
  8. Ahhhh, I get ya now. From the time I've spent since getting my PC back up and running, it seems they've at least sorted the problem of having flares back up by the time you get the lock-on again. I think the way they have the flares and missiles coded makes it impossible to keep the lock-on when your target has fired flares. I haven't used the chaff at all. Generally though I stay away from the heatseekers anyway. I find the rocket pods much better as the guns can make quick enough work of enemy jets anyway and the rockets are great against ground targets. As for the the fast turns, it does take a bit to get the knack of it but assuming you have a mouse with high sensitivity (as an example, my old G5 goes to 2000dpi which is what I fly with) then all it is is a matter of braking with S and accelerating with W alone - don't use the burner until you hit your desired trajectory but just fiddle back and forth between braking and acceleration with quick taps, while turning of course, and you should be able to get the jump on them. I don't know if I explained that very well but ya should see what I mean when ya try it and you'll be able to perfect the motions yourself. I'm going for a couple of round myself now if ya wanna join me.
  9. Fixed the flares breaking your lock-on? I don't get ya. Isn't that what they're supposed to do? I'd really like to see them raise the ceiling on some of the maps. There's nothing worse than being chased and finding yourself in the soup of the height limit.
  10. I like those posters. I'm not long from a game where I and one other guy on our side were doing everything. Everyone else was running to the one spot to get ripped apart over and over again. Of course, it didn't help that the server operators had all stacked on the opposite side either...or that even those who joined squads I created didn't listen to a word I was saying...or that instead of taking folks out on the ground, our chopper was being used as a battering ram for jets...or....No, I'll stop it there. Nice find though!
  11. Let's hope he stays that way. It's clearly just a push for a slice of the pie. Mojang is doing fine without publisher support and being so successful at it is starting to scare the big fish. Found a typo in that article: Clearly, it was supposed to read:
  12. Yeah, that's the impression I got from the books as well. Magic seemed to be there from the start but as Winter approaches, it seems to get stronger.
  13. Where have I heard that before? I think the current economic climate in much of the western world is evidence enough that "Too huge" doesn't translate into immortal.
  14. I need to get a better android phone. The X8 just isn't cutting it. Actually, it never really cut it....just kind of mashed it up.
  15. The Walking Dead season finale was awesome! Also, since this is the first post since the start of the season, I'll add that it's been better than ever over the last few episodes. The next season starts in Autumn - I Can't wait.
  16. I don't want to be lied to. I just don't want to buy something and get half of what I paid for. Sure, you can make the argument that what you get for your $60 is good value but how do you evaluate that? Over here the average console game is about €50 but a 12" pizza can run up to €25 and it's a one-time only thing. Is the pizza worth half the cost of the game? Is it worth more than that new album or bluray you bought? Should games really be €200 then? Once you get into questioning whether a game is worth more than it's pricetag, it starts to get really murky. Who decides that? I'm against Day 1 DLC, be it on the disc or not because it just screams of cash-grab and the consumer can never be sure if they are really getting what they paid for or if someone, somewhere down the line said "Get rid of this, this and this...then sell them on release day.". Honestly, I'd be happier with a lie and a delayed DLC release schedule than the audacious nature in which many in the industry ask for cash. At least then, I can fool myself into thinking it was an afterthought and I'm not thinking "Those fuckers ripped me off!" or "I don't have the full-game" or "Should I buy the DLC or not?" when I'm playing the game.
  17. PC up and running again and BF3 installed. See ye in a week.

Is in not automatically added if I have the LE? I think I have it....I don't remember getting a code for it anyway.

    3. Luftwaffles

      Luftwaffles

It should be autoadded. Your battlefacebook profile has the little badge, so you should be set.

  18. That's what Paddy's Day is for us here in Ireland anyway.
  19. I'm with you Johnny. I go to gigs to show my support for a band and buy their CDs.
  20. That gave me the Friday feelings. I'm definitely developing an unhealthy love for CD Projekt.
  21. I don't use Itunes myself but I don't see any reason doing so would be wrong? I mean it is a legal avenue for downloading music. What alternatives would you suggest?
  22. It's funny because I think the PC version is coming with all the DLC unlocked already, just because they know people would go through and change those few lines of code to unlock them all for free anyway. Which only highlights the difference between how developers and publishers treat both platforms. On console, it's a no fear, cash grab. They think "Will this fly? It's the console, of course it will!" whereas on PC it's all fear and get in and out quickly. They think "This isn't going to fly! The fuckers will just unlock it themselves! Let's hold it back 6 months, do as little as we need to to get the game running on this pirate-infested platform and then complain about how all that piracy cost us sales and blame the pirates for no-on buying any DLC." In otherwords, they do it because they can. @FDS: Even if the game has a bunch of content, the DLC was made by a different team or it's not balanced yet for play, does it not strike you as greedy to have what the publisher has valued as $46 of content on the disc and locked away from you? When I buy a game, I expect to get whatever comes on the disc. The definition of DLC is Downloadable Content, if all I need to download is the access key then how can it be considered DLC. It's on the disc when you buy it. It's not DLC, it's ripping off the consumer by having them pay twice for the content on the disc. It's like going into a shop and buying a locked chest of toys but finding out that you have to pay extra for the key - It only makes sense for the seller.
  23. Happy Get Drunk and Act Irish Day! Ireland V England @ 5 in rugby - what a day to have it on!

It's Evacuation Day in Suffolk County, Massachusetts. It's the day that thanks to General Knox bringing the cannons from Fort Ticonderoga and Washington's army placing them on the hill pointed at the British that the Redcoats decided to retreat from Boston.

So a kick in the face all around the world to old British Imperialism. I like it!

  24. Steal: 1 [with object] take (another person’s property) without permission or legal right and without intending to return it: thieves stole her bicycle (as adjective stolen) stolen goods Theft: The action or crime of stealing: he was convicted of theft Theft and Stealing are one in the same. If you are guilty of theft, you have stolen. If you steal something, you are a thief. Piracy The unauthorized use or reproduction of another’s work. *All definitions taken from The Oxford Dictionary. Piracy is not theft because it does not require the theft (or stealing) of any property. It violates someone's copyright which is why it's called piracy and not theft. Now, if a pirate were to steal a copy of a game and then copy it for distribution then they would be guilty of theft, but also of piracy. So, whatever your views on piracy, can we please stop referring to piracy as theft or stealing because Piracy is not Theft.
