  1. Bioshock didn't have weight, it had mouse acceleration due to being designed for a controller. It's a well documented problem with the PC version of the game. On the other hand, you're right about Metro 2033...kind of. There was mouse acceleration there, and a weird bug where left and right mouse movement was more sensitive than up and down movement. However, there was one section where the mouse movement was purposely changed: I remember sorting the mouse problems for the most part in Metro 2033 - Bioshock was a lost cause - but I can't recall how I did so or where I found a fix but googling should help in improving the mouse control

He is on reddit a lot these days. He tried to start his own site where he wrote up a few essays on gaming, but that just kind of fizzled. I did see him on Kotaku yesterday, though. He's a good pika.

  3. Tensions aren't nearly as bad as they used to be but they're still there. The handshake says a lot about how far we've come but Martin McGuinness and Gerry Adams aren't the only players on the republican side so it boils down to little more than a symbological gesture - weakened even more by recent calls from Gerry Adams for a united Ireland if Sinn Féin were elected into leadership here in the south. Then you've got the Orange boys, the Provos, the RIRA, loyalists, catholics and protestants and all the other factions that still hold grudges over ideals and past grievances. In other words, it's still all a bit of a mess, it's just quietened down.
  4. The only way piracy is going to be curbed in any way is if the big media conglomerates stop looking at the downloaders as criminals and start looking at them as people who want their products. I fear the only way that's going to happen is for the stack of cards that is big media to collapse and for a new, disparate industry that realises that the old methods don't work in the new world to rise from its ashes.
  5. Please tell me that's not an American version of The Inbetweeners. America, STOP TAKING GOOD STUFF AND MAKING IT SHIT! You're becoming worse than Turkey.
  6. With even half a million active subscribers at any one time at €15 a month, that's €90,000,000 a year, it's no wonder it was the most profitable.
  7. Take time to enjoy Company of Heroes. It's a game that gets better the more you play it. I'm trying hard to think of other good, somewhat recent examples that haven't already been mentioned but everyone else has done a pretty good job getting the essentials down. If you've never played EVE, you might want to give that a go, it's not to everyone's taste however. I think I mentioned Total War on the front page already but they're awesome grand strategy games, especially with some of the great mods the community created. The original F.E.A.R plays lovely on PC too so even though it's a bit old now and you may have played it before, it's worth revisiting - as are Baldur's Gate 1&2 (trilogy mod) and Planescape: Torment. Another great strategy game I bought recently on Steam was Wargame: European Escalation. It's a fantastic rts with a plethora of different units and stats to geek out with. If you really wanna geek out however, check out Dwarf Fortress. It's absolutely free. Download the lazy newb pack for it and it'll set everything up quickly and make the game look pretty. Then open the Dwarf Fortress wiki and get ready for the schooling. Remember Losing is Fun! Sticking with complex games for complex minds, Paradox's strategy library is full of deep, complicated strategy titles for the discerning armchair general; titles such as Europa Universalis and Hearts of Iron. In the FPS department there's Red Orchestra 2, Tribes: Ascend and Planetside 2 is on its way. And even though you already know about Battlefield, I'll mention it anyway. It's great on PC.
  8. That one you linked would run a Minecraft server, I'd say. If memory was tight (I don't know what a large server would be like), you'd probably be able to come across some new ram fairly cheap. And you can always squeeze more juice out of the system by turning off non-critical processes and services if it's going to be a dedicated server. If you're installing windows and want to turn off all but the most essential, check out these guides:http://www.blackviper.com/service-configurations/
  9. I think it's completely ignoring the problem if you're locking up the downloaders. Piracy is and always will be a market force. The greater piracy in the internet age means the industries effected the most need to change how they do business, not go locking up potential customers. Copyright law exists for a reason but it's getting a bit too heavy-handed these days. Unfortunately, the ones with the most power (money) to change the law are the ones that benefit the most from more draconian sentencing.
  10. I wonder how future generations will look back at this time regarding copyright infringement. Something will tell me they'll lament the steps we went through to prevent the sharing of culture.
  11. I might do this. My pile of shame is certainly growing. I like to have a few games around to play at any time but it's starting to get out of control. I'm right at the end of Darksiders but have yet to finish it, just because. I want to get done with Dead Island's campaign too. Then there's the shit on Steam I haven't played much of. It's going to be hard to choose.
  12. If TN is right, it may be that the retail codes and the digital codes (which the guest passes would be) come from two different sets.
  13. I don't know whether he did what he's alleged to have done but something about the whole thing stinks, especially the timing of it all. Not only that but that Sweden's rape conviction rate is so high, and since it's easier to get a rape conviction means it could be used as an ideal way to smear and detain an unwanted voice.I don't think the US extradition is solely a US desire however. Assange pissed off a lot of governments with Wikileaks. But who knows, he could have actually raped those two women by any standard, he certainly comes across as a bit of a douchebag. I believe WIkileaks, or the idea it represents, will continue regardless. Ideas don't die easily on the net.
  14. See, that's what I'm thinking. Even though the guidelines are pretty similar to BBFC guidelines, it all boils down to the implementation. Considering the history that Australia has as far as game ratings and censorship, I don't feel very optimistic for Aussie gamers. Let's hope the people on the classification board have some sense.
  15. Let's not jump to conclusions just yet. It could turn out that most 15+ rated games get bumped to 18+ while many of the banned titles remain banned. The following is from the RPS article on the subject:
  16. I bought The Chronicles of The Black Company omnibus as well as The Man from Nowhere on bluray the other day. If you haven't checked out either of these, I suggest you do. They're both awesome.
  17. As masochistic as this sounds, I like the muscle aches of fitness. I don't particularly like the pain of it but compared to other pain, it's like your body is telling you "You're getting stronger" instead of the "HOTHOTHOT! GET SOME WATER ON THAT BURN, DUMBASS!"
  18. I haven't got the new DLC yet but I'm planning on getting premium. The maps and modes are what they are, they don't concern me. As far as CQ is concerned, all I'm interested in are the new weapons. I'm still quite content to play conquest. I do have something negative to say about premium however. The fact that it allows people to skip queues (on private servers, I might add) is stupid. The only people that should be allowed to skip queues on private servers are the people the administrators put on their VIP list, not every Tom, Dick and Harry that pays EA some money.

I don't get the comment about transparency. Win7 allows you to control the transparency.
  20. I still haven't played Amnesia. I do like a good horror game however. Playing F.3.A.R now has me wanting more frights. Definitely not as unnerving as the first game anyway. I'll be keeping an eye on this.
  21. Personally, I love it. Neimoller put it so eloquently and despite its origin, it's perfectly relevant here.
  22. It looks like I might have been mistaken. Both my EVE accounts are registered to the same email address so there's only one Dust 514 beta offer by the looks of it.
  23. If you purchase the items with real money. I don't see this being an issue for many people, or I hope it's not at least. It's going to be free to play so we know there has to be some sort of revenue stream for CCP. Also, since Eve players can use their own funds - or fund a friend - I think it should work out fine. The real question is whether the game itself will work out. I should check it out, no point ignoring that closed beta invite I have. Come to think of it, I may have another available if someone would like to try it out.
  24. As many have, wilfully. As I have. Many here are probably aware of my opinion regarding Activision-Blizzard as a whole and I've been boycotting their products for some time now. For Diablo III, because of my love of the Diablo series - which I only ever played offline and alone - I was feeling ready to make an exception. Then Blizzard did this. It annoys me to no end that people are so willing to relinquish so much control over the software they purchase. I understand that view completely. As someone who's spent far too much of their lives playing multiplayer FPS games, I can attest to the damage that hacks and cheats can do to the fun and integrity of the game. However, we're talking multiplayer here. Yet in Diablo III, you can play completely alone, not encountering another player whatsoever through your entire game. So why did Blizzard need to control so much? Why didn't they keep the single-player and multiplayer modes separate? The cost of doing so would be entirely minimal and I'd bet money that it would have been a better received solution to the problem of hacks and cheats than the current one. There'll always be people who want to cheat the system, in anything. That's why I groan every time some little bitch goes on Battlelog to gripe about "ALL THE HACKERS!" Why I laugh every time some noob calls me a hacker and why, put simply, I accept that there will be hacks and cheats. It doesn't matter whether singleplayer is present, whether everything is connected, whether profiles are persistent or whether mass bannings will occur. There will be hacks and cheats. It's human nature to try and escape the box they've been put in. Accepting such leads me to believe that dealing with hacks and cheats requires a certain level of fairness. I'm all for banning people from playing the multiplayer portion of a game if they've been caught cheating in multiplayer but to ban them entirely from the product they purchased, even if they affected nobody? That's unjust. If you think about it, it's a better option for them. Why allow people continued access to their product after cheating when they can ban that person, especially when time and time again, history has shown that many will just buy the product once more. As long as they can come out and say "See! We're dealing with this!", they don't really care how they deal with it. They'll simply choose the option that's best for them and continue on.
