  1. Found this little gem: We've all been there. I've even had the power! BAN!
  2. Very good! I didn't expect them to pull it off as well as they did.
  3. I'm wrecked tired but I'm sat here waiting for it to hit the net. If they brush over it, I'll be pissed.
  4. It's been a while since I updated this thread and I think it's about time I do so. I've continued writing the first draft but I'm starting to consider changing from a second-hand perspective to a first-hand one, or at least a combination of both. Considering how focused the story is on one character and how frustrating it's been for me to get the strength of characterisation I want for that character, I think it might be the best course of action. I've whipped up an early draft of the marriage from Ruark's point of view and I think I prefer it to the second-hand perspective of the event. It doesn't reach to the point my first excerpt did but I wanted to get some more opinions before I went any further with the idea. Without further ado, here it is. There's probably a heap of grammatical errors as I haven't went over it too heavy with the editing brush.
  5. Watched Mel Gibson's latest - Get the Gringo. It's not a fantastic film by any stretch but it has it's moments.
  6. Yeah, Dotrice did a fantastic job with the character's voices. If only he could do every audiobook I listen to.
  7. For anyone interested, all this week is double XP in BF3 for PC.

Eh. Now that I've unlocked everything but that last goddamn assignment, I'll probably skip this one.

Out of town as well. :D

  8. The end of this month is a critical time here in Ireland. We're holding a referendum on the European Fiscal Compact. If passed, we're guaranteed to see even greater levels austerity for the next decade. If we don't pass it, anything could happen and it could be worse than passing it, but if we do pass it, we're essentially giving away our sovereignty as the powers that be (Germany) centralise European power in the quest for a federal Europe. Here's Irish economist David McWilliams giving a good run-down on the topic:
  9. Nice. 7.6 on the windows index is good enough. More important is how it performs under pressure. BREAK OUT CRYSIS!
  10. Really? The story has chauvinism in it but you've got strong women in the forms of Catelyn, Cersei, Brienne and even Aria, not to mention the other supporting women. I don't think saying Ygritte acts slutty is really the same as calling someone a slut outright. Men can be slutty too but that term is more aimed towards women, call it ingrained bias. I couldn't find a suitable male alternative, at least not one that was as loaded as the word slut but playboy, player, womaniser are all terms for a sexually promiscuous man. It's the world we live in. Women got the short stick as far as derogatory words go. Or maybe I'm just a chauvinist.
  11. Same here, I think there's still places they can be fit in at though. Overall, I'm happy with the show up to this point., The overarching plot is still well in place and some great scenes from the books have been translated brilliantly to the screen, like the aforementioned Awkward Tyrion moment. It's certainly moving at a rapid pace but I can forgive that, at least up until a point that hasn't arrived yet. I have to call blasphemy on Kenshi's comment about the books prose. I think Martin is a master of his craft. I have to put him up near Tolkien in terms of how much I enjoy his writing. He manages to create a great flow with his prose that's really absorbing. There's not a lot of writers that can pull that off on a consistent basis. Granted, some of the prose consists of no more than rambles but they're not that bad either. American Gods - now there's a book with some rambling prose. You call that sluttiness? What a great person you are. C'mon, she has acted a bit slutty. If I did the same, I'd hold no grudge against anyone that called me a manwhore.
  12. If you're really lucky, you'll get something extra back too. That's happened a few times to people I know. Never me though....never me.
  13. That sucks but at least it's gone from the get-go and not when the warranty or RMA periods are up.
  14. It should work with VGA/DVI out of the box, not sure about HDMI though. As for the beeping, have you checked all your connections? It seems obvious but it's a pretty common problem. I'd check the motherboard connections first. There should be a main 24 pin connector (it may be a 20 pin and 4 pin connector) and also an auxiliary 4 pin connector. Make sure they're connected as tight as they can be. Then just make sure hard drives, GPU, etc are all seated correctly. For the RAM, this takes a bit of pushing but you'll hear the click when it's seated right - and both latches at the side of the slot close into position.
  15. That slang is brown bread these days. I prefer to use "Yonks".
  16. Interview for college now today. My stomach has already been cleared thanks to my nerves. You feckers better perform whatever dark rituals you perform to get shit to happen!

I'm sure you'll do just fine. I mean, you certainly sound like you meet the qualifications.

Back from the interview. It wasn't as painful as I thought it would be. I don't think I'll be getting my top choice however but there's a glimmer of hope for the next best thing. All I have to do now is wait for July 4th.

  17. Ah yeah! I do remember it being quite an abrupt end. As for which to start next, I'd definitely vote for 08th MS Team - fantastic series. It's a shame (or perhaps a blessing) it was as short as it was.
  18. I can't recall Zeta much sooooo.....I don't know. What did happen? Onto more recent anime, what's everyone watching this season? Personally, I've been enjoying: Uchuu Kyoudai - a story about two brothers who grow up wanting to be astronauts. While the younger brother makes it, the older brother finds himself stuck in a dead-end job until his brother reignites his passion for space and gets him into a training program for a Mars mission. It's a lovely story about brotherly love and rivalry. Definitely recommended. Zetman - A friend against friend shounen complete with angst, transformations and lots of fighting. Worth it if you like the type of anime. Jormungand - A story about a young arms dealer and the bodyguards she employs, the most recent being a child soldier. Reminiscent of Black Lagoon. If you liked that, you should like this. That's it, as far as I recall. The new Eureka Seven series has started but I have yet to check it out and there's a bunch more new shows that I haven't seen anything of yet.
  19. I've never read any of those. I should probably make more of an effort to move past fantasy and non-fiction. But not right now. I've finished the first book of The Black Company series and I'm now well into the second book - Shadows Linger. I have to recommend this to anyone who likes dark fantasy. It's a fantastic read with some great characters.
  20. Heading in for my mature student interview on Thursday. Already sweating with nerves. I don't know what I'll do if I don't get in this year.

It's for acceptance into a college course. I'm old enough that my school grades aren't really relevant but I need to pass the interview.

I'm sure you will do just fine. :)

  21. If Jita is still as major a trade hub as it was back when I was playing, you can be certain of it. The likelyhood is that the people with something to really lose will all have stayed in station or offline. You'd be an idiot to risk what you have if you know goonswarm is about.
  22. I've got an account but I haven't paid for time in it for ages. I keep telling myself I should resubscribe but money's been tight here so I haven't had the opportunity.
  23. I agree, but... (iorverth's path spoilers) Also, little tidbit about the 360 version vs the PC. They put in doors between areas, I guess to limit how much they load into memory or something. For example, Henselt's camp has walls within the camp, separates the left and right sides of the camp. Vergen in Iorveth's path has too many doors between areas, so it's a pain to travel around (it gets confusing, as you think the passages are houses, but they're not. They just put doors in it). For example, the castle area on the right side of vergen is open on the PC version, you can pass through it to go to the lower side of Vergen near the gates. In the 360 version, there is a door to enter the castle area, then a door to exit to go to the lower area near the gates. I wonder if Loc Muinne is the same. I've reached it on my PC playthrough but can't remember the town that much. That makes sense, I have to say. I recall Henselt's camp being large enough to create some stuttering with my lowly 3gb of ram so I can only imagine how that was with the 360's puny memory.
  24. He's a pure philanderer but Triss holds a special place in his heart. It's up to the player how adventurous he is in the game. I like that. I remember paying for a lady of the night in the game and feeling totally empty afterwards - for purely review purposes, of course. On the other hand, caring for Triss feels more fulfilling, even from a narrative point of view.
  25. I may be talking out of my arse but will that always be the case? With the increase in private funding for R&D regarding new and sustainable energy, could the model change to a more competitive, less restrictive one as the old limitations of nuclear, hydroelectic and fossil fuel energy are conquered by new and more efficient types of energy - at least on a private scale?
