  1. It's annoyed me every time I've used it. "Oh, what's that skill do? No, not that one, shit! not that one either, I want to look at that one! FUCK! Ah, there it is! novice lockpicks are easier...meh." It looks great but c'mon! This is a game! It shouldn't be form over function! And the chests are so annoying! It isn't even sorted alphabetically. Hopefully, these issues will be ironed out once the mod tools are released. Do what I do. Arrow>Run>Arrow>Run>Arrow>Run>Arrow>Run>Run>Run>RUUUN! I find peaks, crevasses and deep rivers are useful for keeping them at a distance too.
  2. So I just had a simultaneous battle against a dragon, a giant and three mammoths. And I won. It was awesome. Then I got cocky and faced another giant and died. And the last save was before the mega battle....I should remember to save more often.
  3. Loved 2142. I can't seem to stay connected to any server in the game now on Win 7 though so it's been retired. for the most part. I still launch it up to play bot skirmishes and bring down some pain in the gunship.
  4. So earlier on this morning I discovered that the invincible Lydia that always got up after getting beat down was not so invincible against her mistress's blade. Thankfully, I have the power to resurrect her with the mighty console! Simply pointing over her and left-clicking so that her ID shows up and typing...wait for it..resurrect and BAM! There she is! I don't know what I'd do without her. Actually I do know what I'd do without her - I'd walk freaking EVERYWHERE! because I'd be full of loot! She makes for a great mule and meatshield! I'm curious about the Giant/Mammoth sites. Is there anything to these aside from the Giants and Mammoths that makes them worth clearing? I noticed a shiny tree in one but I have yet to kill more than a single Giant (which I did as cheaply as I could) so I haven't actually had the opportunity to look around in detail.
  5. If you're getting a BSOD, it would generally indicate a problem with your PC rather than the game. Did you take down the info from the BSOD by any chance?
  6. Wait...this whole emo and scene thing....call me ignorant but didn't referring to the "scene" spring from "emo". In otherwords, it's not the scene, but the emo scene shortened to simply the scene. A scene in musical terms refers to a subculture, it's not exclusive to a single subculture yet because the emo scene became so widespread among the younger generation in the early naughties, they started referring to it as simply the scene. Emo basically killed goth...once goths started getting mistaken for emos.
  7. Whatever the reason for posting this thread. I wholeheartedly concur! Three cheers for Dean and the community he brought/kept together! Hip! Hip! Hooray! Hip! Hip! Hooray! Hip! Hip! Hooray!
  8. Yeah, I might try 80. I set it to 85 and the fish-eye effect wasn't too bad but still noticeable. I think it resets every time you load a game or fast-travel. It's quick enough to set it again though. Just use the tilde/negation key and type FOV XX where XX is your FoV. Has anyone found a way to disable bloom in the game? I looked through the .ini and found nothing. I hate bloom, I wish developers would stop using it.
  9. Exactly. The biggest issue with the console FoV being default in PC games is that raising the FoV, even to a PC standard of 85/90 can cause some fish-eye effects and Skyrim is one of those games that does this. What this means is that on top of things looking distorted, it can be hard to judge when to strike as your enemy could look further away but really be in striking range.
  10. You could be right but I think it's really just down to familiarity. When you start spending a lot of time learning about PCs, building them and fixing problems over the years, you start to get the hang of it. I think everyone gets a bit stumped from time to time on cards. Can You Run It and GPU Hierarchy charts are good ways to know where you stand.
  11. Those are some crazy W/L ratios there!
  12. I just had my best game of BF3 so far. Teamwork FTW! http://battlelog.battlefield.com/bf3/battlereport/show/3449457/1/180349328/

Hey! There's nothing wrong with looking at my e-peen! It would be better if players could share their battle reports outside of battlelog though.

Me and 5 of my friends logged on yesterday. I got an ingame score of over 10k. I was happy, but the reason I did so well was because 6 of us were working together. Battle is best that way

For sure! All of Hotel Squad worked together. We were all on teamspeak as well. My K/D ratio may not be great but I got all those points from teamwork. It matters a lot more in BF3 than in BC2.

  13. I'd turn of 3d spotting, and i'd need your server IP I would too but some of the lads like it. I think we're back to plain normal mode now....we're in a state of flux for the time being. I totally agree with what you say about hardcore and normal. It'd be great to have a good balance between the two that still gets a good influx of players.
  14. The plugins went a bit out of control with BC2. Hopefully BF3 gets a decent amount of plugin support to help admins without too much shit getting added. As it stands, BF3CC is woefully underdeveloped and Procon, while mildly better doesn't seem to play very nice with the servers at the moment (Changing map using Procon crashed the server on more than one occasion. For those of you that have servers set up, I have a question. Have you played around with the settings much or have you stuck to Hardcore/Normal? We've been playing around with our server settings quite a bit switching from normal to hardcore to custom to try and figure out the right balance that everyone is happy with. The best settings we've found was using 75% health, HUD, no crosshairs, no regen, no killcam, 3D spotting on. It provided a nice balance between Normal and Hardcore. Also, have you noticed PB turning itself off? It's happened a few times with our server, no idea why.
  15. I'm sure the UK has the different varieties as well. I know Ireland has....but the only one I can think of is the Milky Way Crispy Roll. I love those.
  16. I think some of the maps are a fine size and comparable with the largest that BF2 had to offer. Kharg Island for example is huge. The problem is that everything is stuck together. Rather than effectively using the space available on the big maps, they've just stuck all the control points together. In BF2 and 2142, where huge maps were the name of the game, the capture points had some distance between them which allowed for better tactical play. I'm not sure that the switch to console is wholly to blame however, I think that Dice have been trying too hard to improve the infantry side of things and figured "Well, it's shitty to have to travel to get to the next point without a vehicle, let's bring them closer so you can walk there in seconds. And if you're playing as infantry, it does work but for vehicles, it sucks. Most of the time, you're trapped in walled roads littered with vehicles. Rather than seeing tanks roll down in formation, circle-strafing and firing at targets, you get tanks moving back and forth between one small bit of cover taking pot shots before moving down a tunnel of death as every fucker with a rocket targets you. If you're in a Jet or a Heli, you best hope you have luck on your side because chances are that most engineers have the stinger or igla while the jets and choppers themselves can lock on just as fast. Rather than having contained fights around A, B, C, D, etc, you have one big mash-up that can be great fun when you're on your feet but not so much if you like to drive or fly. I'd love for them to release some PC only maps. Ones designed for 64 players with properly spaced out points. Hell, just give us an updated version of Suez Canal with no points changed and we'd be happy.
  17. If you're still having fun in BC2 then you should love BF3. It does everything better...nearly. Anywho, I'll be spending most of my time on the IBF2 server so if anyone wants to join me and there isn't room, just send my a message over Origin and I'll make some space.
  18. I'm not sure it's entirely set up yet but the =IBF2= server is running now. Look for =IBF2= Public Server. Yeah, you need to have the game to use Battlelog. Just tried to login and it told me in big red letters: Buy BF3 to get access to Battelog.
  19. Exactly my sentiments. I don't care if it's a port so long as it's clear some modicum of effort has been made in the porting process.
  20. I'm not sure I've actually bought any DLC. Seriously. I've paid for MMO subs....I guess I bought some Battleforge cards. I just tend to buy different games if I'm spending money on games. I never got into the habit of paying for DLC. Expansion packs are a different story though. I'm partial to expansion packs and gold versions.
  21. PC crashes, then proceeds to shutdown right after starting before POST. The room was hot so I think overheating, let it cool down, same thing. Take out my gpu, cleaned it from top to bottom as best I could, reseat it. PC beeps ___.... : Memory problem. I reseat that. Boots first time.

I got the phone call a little while ago "CIARAN, MY PC IS GOING OFF AND ON, BRING YOUR COMPRESSED AIR, I'LL PAY FOR THE TAXI"

Some PC speakers are on the board, so rather than a little paper cone speaker, there's just a tiny (1-2cm diameter?) plastic cylinder with a hole on top that you can sometimes see a metal plate through.

You're a liar, Excel! A dirty, rotten liar! :D I was the vision of Buddha!

  22. That all sounds very similar to the reaction on the EAUK BF3 forums to the IGN score of 9.0. Claims of CoD bias abounded and condemnation of how disgraceful it was to give BF3 such a score (from people that hadn't played the game and felt no qualms in slamming it themselves on those forums no less). I'm glad PXOD don't use scores and it's likely if we did that I wouldn't have done any reviews.
  23. That was the best bit. It's like "MOVE! MOVE! MOVE!" ..... "Oh shit! Sorry man, I forgot you can't quantum tunnel!"
  24. Yeah, the PB screenshots were never very reliable. In other news, =IBF2= should have a UK based server up and running by Friday so I'll probably be spending a lot of my time in-game over there. It's only going to be a 24-man server though so space may be at a premium. If it's full and any of you are wanting to join, let me know and I'll see about finding a spot for ya.
  25. Punkbuster on its own sucks. Master ban lists combined with PB and vigilant admins are the best. The problem with PB is that it relies on the data that PB have which is often outdated and hard to keep up to date with the rate at which new hacks and methods appear. In my time moderating servers, I've probably come across less than 100 official PB bans but have banned probably quadruple that number of suspects myself with the MBLs keeping roughly the same again from staying connected. PB should never be relied upon on its own. It's a tool that compliments rather completes any anti-hacking solution. Considering the greater flexibility of PB however, I'd still rather it be used over VAC any day of the week. I think anyone that's moderated a server using both systems would be inclined to agree though I'm willing to bet the opposite would be true for players as PB can be a total bitch sometimes. Also, two things that developers should do: 1st person killcams - even if it's just for the server admins. The 3rd person killcams and especially DICE's character facing killcam can throw doubt into suspicion of hacking. Battlerecorder - This was a really handy asset in checking out suspect players after the fact since it allowed such flexibility in viewing. It needs to come back.
