  1. There are a load er, ways around that if you look in the right places.
  2. Is this Windows 7? If it's something at startup, try use system config to disable whatever you think the culprit may be. If safe mode is working fine, you could also try using sfc /scannow to check the system files. If all else fails, using a boot disk might repair the install. If you think that it might be malware of some kind, doing scans from safe mode is a good idea.
  3. You and me both, Spork. I still have to get a cable long enough to wire up my router. I at least have it in the same room as my PC now.
  4. Micheal Clarke Duncan is dead. I'll miss that guy, he was a good actor. I guess this means The Finder isn't getting a second season.

      A great loss.

Loved seeing him pop up in movies.

He could have lived a good 30-40 more years....

I honestly never heard of a heart attack killing you 2 or so months later. Freaky as fuck.

  6. Tribes double XP this weekend. I guess I know how I'll be spending my time.

  7. I ordered this laptop today. It was used stock so I got it at the nice price of €245 The one I ordered isn't quite as powerful as the one listed in that link but it should be perfect for college - it has an i3 and 4gb of ram.
  8. An oldie but a goodie. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JfhsRIDh1RQ
  9. Loan approved! I can officially register for college. Oh, and get a laptop for it too! Woohoo!

I can't! :( Speaking of cats, Kilkenny is in the All-Ireland Hurling Final this year...again....The team should probably be banned from competing. We're just. too. good. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kilkenny_GAA#Hurling

  10. If I remember correctly, firebombs and daggers helped me a lot in that fight. It was a pain in the hole for sure though.
  11. There is an 'A Dance of Dragons' thread but that went dead around the time that the second season began.
  12. I'd take it if I could afford it, just to have it on hand. At this point, half my room is being taken up by different cables and components so one more wouldn't hurt. Alas, I don't have the cash right now. As for as PSU's go, I'm still on the same Thermaltake Toughpower 750w I bought when I built my system. It's been filled with dust, taken apart, left to cook in an oven (my room) and been through a surge or two and still runs just like I bought it.
  13. Looking back on this thread, I'm surprised one word hasn't made it in here, on the internet of all things - meme. It's Me-Me. No, shut up! It's Me-Me! Yes, I know it's really Meme, as in Gene but It's still Me-Me to me, god damn it! Also, I'm still undecided which pronunciation of Oregano I prefer. Or-egg-a-no or O-rey-gah-no? The latter is what I'm most used to pronouncing and I've heard plenty of people doing the same but it seems I hear the former more and more these days. I think I like the sound of Or-egg-a-no better....or do I?
  14. This is where cloud gaming could come in, I think. Now, hear me out, I'm not saying I'd like this idea from a consumer PoV but from a developer PoV, it seems that it might be an attractive option. So let's say that by the second half of the next console generation that network infrastructure has gotten to the point that game streaming is viable and competitive (compared to other options) for the consumer and Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo have established or begun to establish their own cloud gaming services. It might then be worthwhile to investigate whether limited streaming exclusivity (like a cinema run) is a viable option for keeping initial profits high before releasing a boxed/'for-keeps' version down the line.
  15. Gripe College fees are messed up. They only affect the lower-middle classes, who can benefit the most from college. Where's the pompous heir with daddy's money charge? That should be a charge. Gripe 2: Thanks to Revanchist, I won't be eating beef today, lest I think of the horrible torture my food has gone through before reaching my plate. I like playing with my food as much as the next cat but that shit's just wrong!
  16. Cool. Offering recognised online classes from respected colleges and universities should really be far more popular these days. In related news, I'll be restarting the course I dropped out of come the 12th of September. At the end of 4 years, I'll have a Bachelor of Science (honours) in Software Development and I may go for a Masters degree after that. I'm really looking forward to it. The first year is going to be a breeze, partly because I had already passed it before leaving the last time and partly because it's a common year that's marked on a continual assessment basis.
  17. Kind of that happened... Well, it burned most the forest but the razing of that caused the remainder to put on fire-retardant clothes and set up a fire brigade. ....I think the analogy got away from me there so I'll be clear about what I'm getting at. With DRM, the backlash was so great that it caused many developers to avoid it in favour of keeping their customers happy while also giving birth to a strong and passionate movement to prevent DRM from becoming too encroaching. Granted, the fire is still raging so we have yet to see the final outcome but it certainly didn't take the whole forest with it as many decried back at the start of it all. I view cloud gaming in a similar light. While I can envision a future where cloud gaming, under whatever name, is the dominant method of games distribution, I don't ever see it becoming the only method. There'll always be those who avoid it and provide alternative methods, whether for greed or altruism.
  18. By now, most of you have probably seen or heard the news that OnLive was apparently on the verge of bankruptcy. Then they were bought out and received "substantial funding". I feel sympathetic towards those who won't be regaining their jobs but I can't say I didn't call it back when it was first announced. The world just isn't ready for something like OnLive to succeed as much as it has to. If it remains alive, I'd be very surprised. There are things I like and dislike about cloud gaming but man, the RPS comments section for these articles turned into a giant hobo wearing a sign that read "The end is nigh!" DLC was going to screw every single one of us in every single game back when it first came out. Consoles were going to kill the PC. DRM would spread like a forest fire in the outback and no-one would be safe from it. THE WORLD IS FUCKED! THE WORLD IS FUCKED! Is nowhere safe from doomsayers these days? It's as if the majority of the internet are Fox News viewers and Daily Mail readers.

Maaaaan, Duke was bitching about all you guys! You should have heard him, man. I felt bad for all of you. Except for me. He loved me.

  21. Y'all use the media button? I just use the youtube - /youtube code.
  22. Oh FFS! Really?! "Hey gamers! I know we made a pretty mediocre game that ruined the nostalgia factor of a great game so we're going to change. To do that, we need money. So we're ripping off the developers of a great game." This is not the way to do business and it's going to bite them in the ass the next time they come out with a game - which I hope gets slammed with patent suits for every word in the title.
  23. That's changing now. If I remember correctly, Budweiser and Coors started with the chilled taps a couple of years back and now a few more have jumped on the bandwagon. That being said, quite a few pubs have chilled their kegs for some time now. It all depends on the pub. Being Ireland, there's rarely a shortage of customers, chilled beer or not.
  24. Is the PXOD blog loading right for everyone? When I load it up, there's no theme or formatting, just a white page with the links and text.
