  1. So too could a whole host of other countries - most of the EU in fact. You make a good point though, it does depend on where the person who's making the comment comes from. I guess the problem I have is with how he made the comment. Tax avoidance is an inevitability of business. Corporations are going to seek out the largest gain and if they can do that by reducing their tax burden, they'll do it. Using it as ammo to smear Mitt Romney, I believe, is hypocritical when I haven't seen any mention of change for Delaware or Florida, which by the open definition of 'Tax Haven', they could both be labelled as such.
  2. Last night, I got through the final book of The Black Company series. A shiver of emotion welled up as I read the final lines, and again as I read them here now. Here it is, for anyone who wishes to read it, but I strongly advise not doing so if you plan on reading the series. It's not terribly revealing but it has the potential to be so. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.
  3. In Irish news, there's been a healthy payload of oil found of the west coast. Initial reactions were "Great! Money!" but thanks to the changes in law, etc that were made by some of our incompetent politicians, the chances that we'll see much of anything from this find is slim to nil. In other news, Ireland has re-entered the bond market proper, raising 5.7 billion over the last few weeks. Also, Obama claimed Ireland was a tax haven then made a "sort-of" rebuttal. .12.5% corporation tax and relatively fair tax credits, etc hardly makes for a tax haven, does it? Even Bono avoids paying tax here by paying it in the Netherlands. Is this a general reflection of the thoughts of foreigners? I'd say our tax rates and laws reflect the size of our nation and our need to encourage investment, etc to remain competitive.
  4. I don't do much drawing myself these days but I should set-up my printer some day and throw up some of my stuff from years ago, it's not very good though. I'll also echo Advent's sentiment. This thread always brightens my day a little.
  5. Myself and Excel are going to see these guys today:

A friend of ours is their guitarist so it should make the experience that bit more memorable.
  6. I thought he was great in The Misfits so I'm hoping for the same here.
  7. I'm no traitor! The person below me has tried to get more than one friend into Day Z to no success.
  8. Just got Windows 7 to boot. Cautiously optimistic. Still lost as to how to sort my phone though. Factory reset did nothing. It's as if someone is using the touchscreen even when it's idle.

Well, it's not impossible then, and as I understand, Android is a complicated mix of a lot of processes, so it may have many places to hide... I don't know how effective they are, but I think there are at least a few antivirus apps on that platform?

I guess maybe even a detailed script virus could set itself up to be synced on? Dunno how syncing works on Android, but I remember even 13 years ago, the "Love Bug" was just a VBScript, but took a stab at default installation spots for IRC clients to spread itself in addition to taking over Outlook... I had a copy that I looked inside and it had a section for saving mIRC .ini files.

Yeah, I had the AVG antivirus for it and that didn't pick up anything when I finally got it to do a scan. Certainly wasn't expecting for my phone to get hit but I have to say, I've rarely seen an infection take hold so efficiently. In seconds, I had a payload of viruses on both OSes and apparently my phone too.

  9. Windows 7 got a nasty virus. Stuck in startup repair. Moved over to XP, seems the virus is here too but I have access to windows so I''m trying to clear it now. Oh yeah, and it seems to have hit my phone too. Great day!

Security Essentials has picked something up now after nearly 3 hours. Scan is still running. So is Spybot S&D.

Spybot? It's 2012 man, use malware bytes!

I use that too. I've had things show in Spybot and not in malware bytes and vice versa.

  10. It did and the horrors it revealed could only begin to be described as a lovecraftian experience of abyssal proportions. The person below me faces three roads: one heading North to an evil castle, one heading South to a dark cave and one heading East to a large expanse of desert. >
  11. The comments from this article from the Irish Independent highlights very well the sound on the ground here at the moment. I used to feel proud to be Irish, that's starting to fade away.
  12. The term may be overused these days but the man was a legend, truly.
  13. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cSApbJ_T8QM Fantastic biopic, a definitive biopic. I feel no shame in admitting that I had wept by the end.
  14. But then you corrupt the sanctity of marriage! These people who are against same sex marriage really need to open a book and do some research on why marriage exists. It's a legal/political contract, always has been, always will be. All this highfalutin bullshit about the sanctity of marriage and how it must be between a man and a woman needs to stop, if even just to save my face the multiple facepalms.
  15. So who saw that Katie Holmes and her Daughter were involved in a car accident with a rubbish truck? That's like no. 5 in the "Top 100 ways to kill someone and make it look like an accident" handbook. Hopefully, I'm just being paranoid.

      Google it?

Or maybe not. I copied the title into the google search box and had a double take. If I do ever need it, it's probably not something I want google knowing about, lol.

  16. We still talking about coffee here?
  17. It's pretty common in our family. My grandfather was a beekeeper and now my father keeps a couple of hives so we always have honey. Usually, I'll just use sugar because that's right beside the coffee and tea but I do indulge myself with honey instead of sugar sometimes. The problem I find with honey in tea or coffee is that some honeys can outshine the other flavours and the result can be sickly-sweet.
  18. I like my coffee with milk and sugar but depending on my mood, how awake I am or the blend of coffee I'm drinking, I'll take it black. I don't actually drink much coffee these days - though I'll be having one soon to keep myself awake for the day. I was seriously addicted to it years ago. No word of a lie, I used to spoon in 2-3 tablespoons of coffee into a single cup and drink about 10 of those a day. I couldn't get enough of the stuff. As far as blends go, I like a smooth coffee to a strong one - something like Nescafé's Gold Blend.
  19. I started with Pink Floyd's Dark Side to the Moon, that went on to Rush but I'm writing here so it was back to something a little less...chaotic?

Picked up Deus Ex: Human Revolution finally! I recommend people pick up Space Marine if they don't have it already. At the price it is, it's a total steal. It's such a fun game to play. I'm a bit peeved at the price of the Tribes Ascend starter pack. I bought it like a week ago, on sale, but it was double the price. Damn my impulses! I don't know if I'll be getting much in this summer's sales. I'm hoping to maybe grab L.A Noire cheap, I didn't miss that already, did I? I wouldn't have minded Amnesia either, I have yet to get around to playing it but it sounds like it's right up my alley. Alas, I'm pretty cash-strapped at the minute so I've gotta watch the pennies.
  21. You'd have to know Ireland fairly well to get some of this but fuck it, it had me giggling like a schoolgirl. Fifty Shades of Grey - Irish Edition Give it to me, give it to me’, he roared aggressively. Some days Mary hated working at Ulster Bank. He slipped his hand under the red silk.. “You’re so beautiful in that dress.”, “Feck off, it was only a euro in Penneys!” Bríd’s knees were sore and her throat was raw…This was the longest Novena she’d ever attended. "You’re so tight" he said, "I’m from Cavan" she replied. Slowly he ran his finger down the middle, parting the pink softness, feeling the moist sticky centre. He loved a Mikado. ‘She quivered as I stroked her thighs. ‘Take me in the shower Sean!’ I whispered to her ‘Wait till I turn on the immersion’‘ Her underwear was wet as he pulled the rope. "There’s great drying out today!" she thought as the clothes line hoisted’ She wrapped her fingers around it and greedily pulled it towards her lips. 20 bottles for 15 quid at Centra, Mick! Bargain! 'Its so long! Never seen the likes of it!' exclaimed Maire, as she joined the dole queue. She widened her mouth, trying to fit it all in!! Juices ran down her face. Mary did love a kebab after coppers. She was panting as she let out one final scream of pure pleasure. There was nothing like beating Kilkenny in the hurling. She took a deep breath as the shivers rolled down her hot body... Jaysus, she thought. The vicks is kicking in now! Come on! Pump it hard.. Real hard! But it was no use the tyre was definitely punctured! He asked if she could handle more than one finger. She said she preferred Hob Nobs or a purple Schnack with her tea. Spread 'em', he said gruffly. Margie looked dolefully at the bags of fertilizer destined for the back field.
  22. That's something along the lines of what I'm thinking. Even if the Ouya fails, it could still encourage further attempts to hit the market with an open-sourced console, perhaps even by some of the bigger players. The 4 million odd that they've raised, even if the Ouya never hits the market, could have that effect on its own as it highlights to investors and businesses that there is a healthy demand out there for an open-sourced gaming system/media device for the home that's more than a phone but not quite a PC.
  23. That was awful, like I mean truly awful, even if I agreed that Ouya was complete bullshit, that still would have been a terrible video.
  24. Just about to start the last Black Company novel. I'm going to miss it when I'm done.

How many of those did he end up writing? I've read four or five of them, but I know there's more out there.

11, with two more promised for sometime in the future. I wonder if we'll ever see a TV show for it.

  25. I have to echo eleven here. I don't see why we should hold such pessimistic an attitude towards this and its chances of success. It's going to be an uphill struggle, I'll grant you that but if it does succeed, even on a small level, it could do a lot of good for console gaming, and gaming in general. Let's wait to see how it goes when it hits the market. It could end up becoming a runaway success for all we know at this point. This is also a good time to point out that it's project like this that Kickstarter is perfect for. These left-field ideas are hard to fund under traditional models because the ones handing out the funding only care about numbers like 8 million. Yet this very type of idea is the kind that has the potential to push mediums forward. Remember, a drop in a bucket still creates ripples.
