  1. It has nothing to do with your/our/his/her/its connection. It runs on a peer-based network connection for joining games, which means the lag you get with various people fluctuates very rapidly. That, combined with Nexon's seemingly inability to comprehend this problem, leads to a lot of varying opinions about Vindictus. I was the CB for it. Then I was in the OB. Then I dropped it. It's nice at first, but once you get to the later levels it's absurdly obvious it was geared to players who can pay for the ridiculous cash shop tokens to get through. Most people burn their all their silver tokens in 2-3 days. I can burn 25 in a 2-3 hour period, because I had a nice guild to run with. And frankly, it's repetitive. You cannot deny that. The level designs are 150,000% linear. Sorry it's not Ragnarok online. Your argument went from "herp a derp connections suck" to "i play too many mmos so this wasn't shit to me." I do not see your point with this statement, not to mention you just popped in a red herring. Thank you for reading my sig. @topic: GameTap has a lot of free arcade style games. I used to play Metal Slug on it (and it even comes with the co-op!) for free. I'm not sure how it is now though, it seems they've changed drastically since I last played.
  2. I played this once, and I got to the end. It had the Bioware staple of "restart the game with your current char!" I clicked exit.
  3. Adeptus Custodes. Close enough. pie/pi for you though.
  4. I think Bashcraft's trying to chronicle the more "wild" side of Japan, or at the very least stir up some debate or conversation about it in his articles. Suffice to say, I don't think he's getting across the best picture of Japan to Kotaku's readers. It's a really great country, with some of the best cuisine I've had the honor of tasting. If he's going to really chronicle something on Japan (since he's digressing from gaming anyways), why not do it on food, which we all love (except select insane individuals)? Choo's a little more honest when it comes to that. He doesn't hide the fact of anime, figurines, or other random eccentricities that most Japanese otaku seem to favor, not to mention he likes food porn on his site.
  5. My cousins, as well as my friends, are absurdly obsessed with Naruto. Most of my friends are borderline weeaboo material, if it weren't for the fact that all of them are highly skilled in various martial arts, to the point of kicking my ass with them multiple times. And besides, Naruto's full of fillers. No one likes fillers, not even the fanboys.

  7. I'm reading several 65 page excerpts and the Boxer Manifesto for my world history class.
  8. GITS was mainstream, but I didn't think the story was crap. I actually liked lots of the 80's/90's sci-fi anime, like Appleseed, because of their stories. I heard they made sequels recently, but I haven't seen them. I'm kind of scared to. Correction, then: RECENT mainstream animes are crap. I'm looking at you two in particular, Naruto and Bleach.
  9. It seems like Bashcraft is only there to put the "otaku" in Kotaku. While I appreciate his dissertations on the inner workings of Japanese culture, I really, really think it doesn't belong on Kotaku. And besides, Danny Choo did a better job than Bashcraft ever will.
  10. Haha this is why I don't watch anime for the most part. This anime has a bit of that "kawaii desu" crap too, but it isn't too much to be unnerving, and I like the premise being about the renai game hobby from a girl's perspective. I used to like anime when I was a teenager, but those were the days of cyberpunk like Ghost in the Shell and quality stuff being brought over. These days, I agree that everything is for the most part "moe" fanservice crap. And none of that mainstream crap either. That's just as bad as the moe shit. I watch anime for the story. Quite shocking.
  11. http://img2.gelbooru.com//images/287/e47c1973e72827468a70eb66229f11cc28cba3cd.jpg A summary of each of the characters (who are all based on real life WWII aces) and their striker units (based on WWII aircraft). Ignore the pantie shots.
  12. search box? No. no search box.

      oh, THERES the search box.

  13. Ah, the (in)famous OreImo that I've been hearing so much about. Also, if it's an anime, someone will sub it eventually. Generally most subs are released a few days after they're aired in Japan. Some sites take advantage of "simulcasting", or subbing as the episode happens in Japan - like crunchyroll. Of course, high quality subbed episodes beat out that crap any time, anywhere. As for me, I haven't seen any anime recently. Go figure. Most of the hogwash I see nowadays on the upcoming anime lists are generally not to my liking or are full of the harem/kawaii-desu factor. In my opinion, yes. It is a very good anime, pantie shots aside. Very strong characterization, which is a pretty big rarity in most recent animes, and it has a lot of historical references as well.
  14. I heard S4 League was pretty popular among peoples. I'm not one for animu and mango all up in my games, though. Many MMORPGs fall into the so-called "free to play on PC" category. There's a huge variety of them (though scifi MMOs are distinctly lacking), and a lot of them have their own style and what not. I'd recommend Cabal Online, and only that one since it's pretty easy to get into and it's one of the flashiest MMOs I've ever played.
  15. I'm using some huge-ass piece of clunky Microsoft hardware that came with my computer many, many years ago. It still hasn't broken.
  16. I have to mention that I enjoyed Aion a LOT as well. Pity that my wallet went dry so soon. Unfortunately, every game has it's spammers, though I am very concerned that Chinese hackers were able to advertise in game, considering it requires a subscription. U.S. games should probably do the same thing as Korea and require some sort of real life identification tied to a player's account to ensure they're from America. If I recall Australia also follows the ID model.
  17. I had Indian curry with rice, followed up with a bowl of extremely watered down clam chowder. University dorm restaurants have the most eclectic mix of cuisine I've ever seen.
  18. Dohohoho. If that's what HDR is supposed to be like, I still don't like it. Gives it an almost unnatural shine. But that's just my opinion.
  19. Only HDR could ever pull off such an insane glare like that. Oh, Oblivion, you HDR poster child you.
  20. I'll have the pizza. And hold the noob.
  21. Cash shops have always been iffy to me, because I've played a lot (and I mean a LOT) of F2P MMOs in my life. I've always been able to get by without using any fancy stuff from the shops, but a lot of people I played with back then blazed past me because of the shops. Unabashedly, I voted for the "buy once, free to play" model. In my opinion it's the best option.
  22. Hi y'all, I'm Enervation and I'm an unstarred commenter on Kotaku.
