  1. Just look at it like a TV show (specifically a sitcom) instead of a movie and it's not so bad until you hit chapter 15. Characters and stuff are really good, but it pretty much plays out episodically until the very end. Then it's a bit of a clusterfuck, but up to that point you're treated with some real gems...
  2. I bought Call of Pripyat when it was on sale on Steam and I only really gave it a single attempt so far, but I was wondering; did they get rid of anomalies? Everybody in this thread is talking about how they dealt with the first gunfight but I remember my first experience with the game involved me unexpectedly dying 50 times and screaming at the screen wondering what the fuck was going on. When I finally realized that it was strange, subtle energy charges that were killing me I was suddenly a lot more interested. As cheap as they are I thought they made some pretty cool traps out of them. Also; why the fuck did the Steam collection come with the first game and the third game but not Clear Sky? Now there's like a big gap in my collection. Full Disclosure: I tried Stalker Complete and hated it, went back to vanilla Stalker.
  3. I always liked Bashcraft. Most of the weeaboo stuff doesn't bother me (there's usually cleavage, I'm fine with that even if I am looking for gaming news). The reason he's my favourite writer though is because he's also the only one on Kotaku who doesn't cater exclusively to the mainstream crowd. I look forward to his GOTY nominations because he'll sacrifice his vote for the latest CoD or Rockstar game and give it to something like Bangai-o Spirits or Shut Up and Jam Gaiden. Ever since I started seeing this in him I really started paying attention to the games he writes about and I've found some real gems because of it. Plus, he's more inclined to share news that actually relates to smaller, more specific gaming communities like fighting and shmup fans and that kind of stuff is usually interesting (Luke does this pretty well too though). Totilo is the exact opposite because he's especially quick to dismiss any game that wasn't made in the last 2 years and while he's constantly preaching about the direction video games are taking he only ever gives any sort of attention or praise to the most generic mechanics that are so formulaic that it would be hard for a game to actually fuck them up (remember those old retrospectives on unpopular games he used to write?).
  4. Crysis 2 has been on my most wanted list since I saw this... It's hasn't been confirmed that this will be used in game yet, but one of the developers of this demo works for CryTek and one of the Crysis trailers prominently features a skyscraper falling down. I'm willing to bet it's pretty likely that we'll be able to blow shit up on a whole new level in this game. They better add cheats so I can just load up on rocket launchers right off the bat and tear shit down.
  5. So, it's not quite a game, but I guess it could be considered hardware? Either way, I don't quite think it deserves its own thread but it's gaming related and so utterly ridiculous I wanted to brag. This is a button that plays the sound effect of a Korean StarCraft announcer saying "GG", which is typically quite a spectacle for those who haven't heard such a thing. http://www.ggbutton.com/
  6. SWAT 4 is one of my most favourite games of all time. I actually played the expansion as well, and while it did add some really sweet gear and AI tweaks, the new campaign left something to be desired. All the same, worth grabbing them both I'd say. So awesomely tactical. I never got the chance to try co-op multiplayer but I always wanted to. I always thought that if they had promoted that aspect of it more it would probably outshine Left 4 Dead in regards to pioneering the heavily co-op based shooters (Irrational even used the engine to make an unreleased zombie game that's extremely similar to Left 4 Dead, but they didn't think people would like it ). I can also see it being much more frustrating however; if one player isn't pulling their weight in SWAT 4 I'd imagine your team would really suffer. You have to keep such a close eye on guys; you've got like .2 seconds between the time they raise their gun and the time your whole team is dead to shoot them without losing points. Love that. Also; pepper ball guns are OP. Real men use live rounds. There's a portable LAN version of this game but my friends never want to try it.
  7. I actually kind of liked Sunshine better than Mario 64; but I was never the biggest Mario connoisseur. I thought there were some really neat mechanics with the water gun though and I would love to see it used again; either as a full game mechanic or even as some kind of temporary power-up. I'm playing through The Path right now and, like any other art game, it gets its fair share of criticism. It's absolutely fucking brilliant though. I checked out the other Tale of Tales games around the same time I got the Path and they're kind of hit or miss (the Graveyard in particular is the most pretentious piece of bullshit I've ever seen; the only difference between playing the game and watching somebody play it on Youtube is whether or not you're holding the key to move forward). The Path is a real masterpiece though. With its surrealist imagery, feminist themes, and interpretive story, it really takes no shame in alienating 99.9999999999% of gamers right out the gate, but if you give it a chance you'll quickly find that whatever tedium there appears to be turns to curiosity and any confusion that might arise only helps to better understand things later on.
  8. I upgraded from the G15 to the G19 last year and I'd highly recommend it. It's not quite as good for gaming as the G15 because there are only 2 rows of macro keys instead of 3; but the LCD screen lets you watch porn while you play.
  9. I never imagined I'd be playing Terran in SC2. I was so useless with them in the first game. ... now I kind of want that collectors edition Thor.
  10. I was never one to choose between games. I always have many of them on the go at once. Currently; - StarCraft 2 - Company of Heroes - The Path - Minecraft - KOTOR (it's actually my first playthrough of this and I can't believe I didn't do it sooner) - AAaaaAAAAaaAAAaaaAAAaaaa!!! A Reckless Disregard for Gravity - Frozen Synapse Was thinking of adding Black Ops and Vanquish to this list since I haven't used a console in ages. I also really want to get back to playing New Vegas and Sin and Punishment 2, but they demand time.
  11. I have this beautiful, handcrafted, antique shelf that has been passed down and maintained in my family for generations. But getting back on topic; I keep my games strewn across the floor.
  12. No More Heroes No More Heroes 2 Bioshock Command and Conquer: Red Alert Myst 50 Cent: Blood on the Sand
  13. Hey guys, I finally beat facebook. The last boss was kinda easy though. Not really sure why I bothered censoring it since a Google search for NeoStarr likely turns up the same shit.
