  1. Deus Ex: Human Revolution I shall put my thoughts in the Deus Ex thread
  2. It's Steamworks. Whatever version you buy on PC will tie in with Steam. So may as well get it from a place like Zavvi, save £10+, have a physical disc for "just in case" and still have it play happy with Steam.
  3. Just went on Steam pre-order for UK http://store.steampowered.com/app/72850/ For those who don't want to be paying up to £15 more for no reason whatsoever: http://www.zavvi.com/games/platforms/pc/the-elder-scrolls-v-skyrim/10293225.html
  4. As I've just sent to GameJournos who jsut RT'ed the image: Kotaku seem to be totally in the clear on that one. It looks like the guy who put it on Reddit also sent it as a tip to Kotaku. (redditor = adamsfx, source = "thanks Adam") I think it only got the front page cos the folks of r/gaming are of a similar mind of us on being quite happy to drag kotaku across the coals once in a while.
  5. http://gizmodo.com/5833787/my-brief-okcupid-affair-with-a-world-champion-magic-the-gathering-player Why when there is such a huge pool of people does gawker hire from the shallow end? Also what the fuck does this have to do with Gadgets. Why the hell did Gawker make several blogs with dedicated areas to cover and then just have the writers do whatever the fuck comes to mind?
  6. So watching Dark Knight. There's a trilogy following the classic model.

    1. Yantelope

      Yantelope

How so? There's not really an overarching struggle. Batman vs. Gotham maybe?

It's batman versus Batman. Batman begins is it's own thing, introduces the characters. 2nd one is his downfall. and 3rd is...well "Rises"

    3. Yantelope

      Yantelope

man vs. himself? I suppose I could see that.

  7. Masterdex quoted em earlier on https://twitter.com/#!/joeljohnson/status/107165181762744320 https://twitter.com/#!/joeljohnson/status/107147602801332224 https://twitter.com/#!/joeljohnson/status/107783472604647424
  8. Maybe I missed this earlier, but does this mean the "Creation Engine" (Skyrim's engine) is just an updated Gamebryo? I thought Bethesda created an all new engine for Skyrim. What Tenshi said. It's mostly a re-branding. The engine is updated, they'd tweaked some of the plug-in components too. But it's pretty much Gamebryo with enough changes they're taking the opportunity to leave behind the stigma of Gamebryo. (also iirc the company that makes Gamebryo went under a couple years ago, so chances are Bethesda can't use the name anymore)
  9. http://tylerdowner.w...on-and-musings/ So the Mozilla Community Lead quit recently over the way Mozilla is handling bugs in Firefox. Apparently their current style ("Triage") is pretty much the one they used when they put out a new version every 2 years or so. Putting out a new version every 3 months has meant bugs just aren't being fixed. It was something I kind of expected. Chrome can do rapid release because they started out that way. Firefox is churning out new versions 8 times faster than before and something had to give. Also that layout brings back memories.
  10. Tom is going into final year on a Games Design course next year. The course has had a slight tweak the past year where they've had the various related courses (Games Design, Games Art, Games Programming) work together on building a game in UDK. He hasn't got a lot of respect for the games art student, said they help em up a lot. He has the game but not compiled. I should rag on him some more for it. Been meaning to get him to do a write up for PXOD.
  11. Most games can stand on their own in a game mechanic sense. But playing Brotherhood on it's own in a story sense just doesn't work. It relies so much on playing (at least) ACII.
  12. You know when Americans assume Britain uses metric system (as in just the metric system like our European cousins) I kinda get why they do that now. Cos it's much easier than wrapping your head around the fact that we use these:
  13. Yeah I'm gonna say it's a tad hypocritical to say you dislike having to manually heal your self (which I'm still hoping is possible, cos regen doesn't always completely cover your ass) but will mod the game to disable fast travel so you manually walk around everywhere. I quite like manually healing because it means I have more control, and cos if it's pure regen it's going to feel more like a shooter with the whole fight, retreat, heal, fight some more. And Skyrim doesn't look like it has many handy chest high walls. Still as Rocky said give it a couple of months and a large amount of mods will most likely be created and ported over. It's still Gamebryo under the hood so making mods shouldn't be too hard.
  14. So been playing through this. And it's pretty damn amazing. Certainly living up to the first game. I was afraid that when making a second Deus Ex they'd screw it up. Oh and for all our fears as put here it is a pretty damn fine PC port. Right down to numpads being tied to the numpads on our keyboards. Hey a game that uses the controls we have as PC gamers. It looks pretty nice (even if it's showing my 9600GT's age). It's not open-world as such, but it's all the richer for it. I love just going around and hacking pretty much everything (down to the point where I had later missions and could just waltz on through since I practically owned the building already) It did lead me to a point where my exploration ended up putting me right into a mission I wasn't planning to do at the time and I didn't know my way back so had a handy time fighting my way out of the way I assume I was meant to come in. I also like a game that rewards you for paying attention (i.e when NPCs are talking of back entrances, or you get a pocket secretary with the codes on) Currently my build is very much a stealth build with quite a bit of hacking going on. I do enjoy clearing out an area by hacking turrets. I got the wall punch a bit later on that I'm now liking. It could have been handy early on given how good it's been since I got it. So I recommend wall punching. The Parachute too. I still don't have it but I'm feeling there's a few times where it would have been good too.
  15. Howdy GunFlame. Weren't you on back when we were on Freeforums under the "kotakuites" name?
  16. Oh come on. Even TV shows tend to suck at having it all planned out from the get go. This is a video game, expect even worse. From the Trilogy thing I assume that means after Revelations is done we have Assassins Creed III with the final ancestor, and wrapping up the game. But yeah it's a bit weird. It's more a stretched out part II than individual stories. The typical trilogy structure goes: 1 - You start off. You're still feeling your way through the world and since you should never assume you'll get to do your whole trilogy it's usually self enclosed (enough). Usually introduces you to most of the charachters and the big bad. 2. The obstacle. Something bad will happen (say you get discovered by Abstergo or stab the wrong person). As you're now lined up for a trilogy you can be more open ended. Normally this is a time of struggle. 3. The fight. You finally go and fight back on the big bad. The protagonist is now stronger, wiser, etc. Evil is vanquished and good prevails. The end scrolling credits please leave the cinema quietly. 1. The empire arrives on the scene, you find out your destiny. You go on a self enclosed adventure, meet a bunch of people, meet the bad guy, fend it off. 2. Your friends are betrayed, cut up into pieces, and frozen. You also lose a limb. All in all life sucks. Oh and it turns out you were adopted. 3. You are now wiser stronger and able to fend off a mobsters pet. You then go to your final battle. Fight off the evil, your dad turns out to be good and throws evil down a maintenance shaft. HOORAY!! FIREWORKS! GHOSTS! 1. You go on a standard mission, the bad guys and your destiny is revealed. You go on a self enclosed adventure, meet a bunch of people, screw one of them, fend off the bad guy. 2. Humans are being stolen. You meet more people, your ex is pissed and your old non-nuked friend even more so. You find out the kidnapped humans don't look so pretty anymore and a bunch of new people you meet die and you also kinda trigger all of the bad guys to come at you and you currently have no hope of defending yourself. 3. You're stronger, wiser and you get to play alongside your old mentor. You go in for the final battle and all that has improved up to now is you have a claw and a sex change.
  17. I'm playing Deus Ex Human Revolution with a touch of Final Fantasy XIII still. (I'm doing the Cei'th Stones for a while on Gran Pulse before heading off on the story. Yet to start hitting any major difficulties. Just time consuming getting from a-to-b. I am going to end up a tad overpowered for most of the next story segment though. But I'm fine with that)
  18. I don't know what the hell cinnamon toast crunch is. So that'd be a no. The person below me has yet to play Deus Ex. Any of them.
  19. Does R-Type count? If so I quite enjoyed R-Type when younger. My uncle had it, used to play that n Abes Oddyssey when we were around at his. Was reminded of it earlier today by Joystiq pointing out a port is coming to Android soonish (Which is a bummer cos tbh unless it's the Play most touchscreens suck for stuff like that) Most other Shmups I'm not a fan of. Too much at once to be concentrating on. They can have some snazzy music n visuals though. (Oh there was some "X-plane" on my old old old samsung. i.e pre-colour phones days. Used to play that a ton)
  20. Your weapons and armour don't degenerate either. Though I do agree with their reasoning of allowing you to concentrate more on improving and upgrading the weapon than getting it back to it's original state. Just sent em a message seeing on chances of a "hardcore" mode that requires potions/health spells and weapon degradation.
  21. IX is good... I'd say the lack of other races is a slight flaw with XIII. (Though XIII-2 brings in at least one moogle). Like with IX your party ends up with a few humans, a quen, a rat, a black mage, 2 summoners, and whatever Amarant is. They really got to stretch their legs on the character design.
  22. Yeah I really like my Wildfire. Sure it's low end(even lower now) but HTC sense is pretty nice, and the build quality too. I had Samsung feature phones before this and liked those so I'm still keeping an eye on Samsung Androids which I hear the galaxy range is nice (though a tad expensive) I will say when looking for an Android, and this will doubly apply to most folks here, make sure it has a GPU. That is the most crippling deficiency of the wildfire. It's got a 550mhz CPU, which is low as far as Androids go, but thats enough to run pretty much everything except games. 2D games tend to run fine, but the fancier stuff not so much.
  23. Ah yes I should have replied with a picture. Battra you see the resemblance?
