Thing is Joel talks of standardization, and that's what PC already has. Without becoming consoles you can't become much more standardized. You've got DirectX to make GPUs play happy, you've got drivers and APIs to make all the random parts play pretty with Windows. You've got USB so even your peripherals run through a standard port. And yeah if you get a reaction like that from the editors you must have said something right.

What the fuck is he smoking/playing on? Actually don't answer that hte rest of the article spells that out* What is the "Apple model of hardware"? Make things really expensive? If it was the way to do it then surely they'd have more than 8% PC market share? I'll repeat, Apple are worth jack shit in the PC space. I think everyone else has been a pretty credible competitor to apple for the past 20 or so years. Dude needs to do research: It's not the first, it won't be the last. It will suck for gaming though. Not like any gamer worth their salt will end up using a trackpad for gaming. It'll still end up with a mouse stuck in the side. (Oh and the support will probably suck, especially when it's on such an expensive product) Laptops already have that "advantage" and have for years. And the updates will most likely come through the component manufacturers or MS. I don't see Razer doing much with helping on the driver side. *Also what is with the constant comparison to Apple macbooks? Mac only just got Steam support last year. It's games library is woefully small. If you want to compare it go with an Alienware. Kotaku is a joke when it comes to PC coverage.

I'd like to sign up but I don't see me playing it much so I'll let others go in with a chance. -
PS3 get's to even the score by becoming one of the...3 games on PS3 to use the official kb/m support. lol de_dust. They're not showing any new maps are they? I saw aztec, office, italy, and others I can't name cos I've not played in a while. Looks nice. Wonder how it's going to be dealt with. I assume it's a purchasable game?

I believe the creation of SSF4 and UMvC3 were met with similar reactions to this. MNC isn't even a boxed product, so it's not like it's difficult to get in an update like this without needing to make a new product. And throughout the beta period Uber managed to make quite a few hefty changes to MNC so I don't see it being a problem now. They're as good as. As I said before, most F2P transitions involve making the original game F2P in order to boost players and income, not make a second game to be F2P alongside a paid for game.

So both studios have proven capable of knocking out sequels, but it's unrealistic of me to expect them to be able to just update the original game? Torchlight was meant to be Torchlight MMO funding project but as we can see that obviously never transpired and it became funding for Torchlight: The Co-opening instead. And it's both versions that are being officially unsupported. However if you're a 360 player then MNC will still be there and the player base won't be split up. With PC if you have MNC look forward to the already slim player base being filtered away to SMNC. MNC has shown to be able to add extra maps, tweak the balancing, and at minimum add in extra characters like the fruit fucker. It's steamworks based too and that now fully supports F2P games. So I don't really see why they needed to make a separate F2P game when they could have done like everyone else and take their existing game, give it a spruce over and make it F2P. EA get called out on killing MP games after a couple of years. Uber have done it in 7 months.

DRM, Online Pass, Project Ten Dollar and the like

99% of console titles hit stores at £40 and it rarely wavers unless the store lowers it themselves. PC is much more varied on launch price of a game. -
Your PC definitely supports Crossfire yes?

We already have shitty expensive games. All that changes is we don't have to spend as much Oh to be slightly more on topic THQ are currently experimenting with the whole "make cheaper games" thing. And I don't at all buy that games should be a set price as they seem to be with consoles. -
Thing is Apple has been Jobless before and it didn't end well. (Microsoft had to invest in them in order to keep them afloat it was that bad). Apple as we know them now is only like this since Jobs was hired back on as CEO so a lot of folks will be thinking back to those Jobless years and how badly Apple did without him. Maybe Jobs has had this going for some years and has thus prepared Tim Cook as a suitable heir. But it's gonna be up in the air for a while on how this will pan out.

http://www.uberent.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=35&t=11279 Wow. I guess those of us who got it on PC can go shove it eh? Srsly, what does Microsoft have to do with this at all? Did Steam suddenly stop allowing updates? Did Steam just... oh wait..http://store.steampowered.com/genre/Free%20to%20Play/.. quite the opposite. 7 months? That's an appallingly short amount of time to decide to make a sequel n just give up on the first game. Hey you paid for the game? Well thanks for funding those balancing fixes, extra maps and characters that we can put in a game that makes the game you paid for worth fuck all. I guess Uber Entertainment wanted to be a bit different to everyone else when jumping on the Free2Play bandwagon. (Since the usual technique is make existing game free-2-play, dump a ton of stuff on paying customers. Not just shaft the paying customers and make a different game) Meh, after a string of crappy £10 shooters MNC was already the final nail in the coffin on doing it again. I guess their actions and boneheadiness in regards to the SMNC announcement just serves to add some super glue on top. Reminds me of getting Torchlight and then a couple months later they announced Torchlight 2 with co-op ¬_¬.

Well I'm not currently playing Dungeon Keeper 2 because it's a pretty disappointing port. From what I'm reading they just removed the CD check. I already own the CD. Just it doesn't work on Win 7 so I was hoping that GoG would release it so it would run on Win 7 and it's as bad as my CD version. I now own 2 versions of Dungeon Keeper 2 that don't work ¬_¬

Sorry, it's a Kotaku link (they seem to have the scoop on it and no one else is yet to cover it) http://kotaku.com/5834259/get-ready-for-super-monday-night-combat-a-very-dota-shooter-that-is-free-to-play Sounds a bit shitty tbh. MNC died really really fast (Which I guess given gawkers traffic the past year I guess they would term it "One of the surprise hits of 2010,"). I don't think making a separate F2P game is going to help with that. They should have really just taken MNC and made that F2P with a few bonuses to people who stupidly paid for the game. Will this see more activity? Well given it's easy to get more players than next to none (It has officially less than 200 players on PC) I'd say that's a yes. Just it's a kick in the balls to abandon the paid for version so fast. From what I'm reading in the article it's pretty much the same as MNC but new maps & characters (not hard to add to MNC) and slightly tweaked balance.

Until next gen comes across you're not going to see much effort put into utilising DX11 features when most games are made for DX9-level consoles. I don't particularly blame devs for not wanting to. The returns on putting proper effort into utilising DX11, while keeping the DX9 version as well, would not be worth it.

Disney is one of the main reasons why copyright law is so awfully bad at the moment. I believe copyright now lasts about 70 years after the creators death, unless tied to a company in which case it lasts for pretty much forever. "The mickey mouse act". There's a video on it somewhere. It's a rather fitting comparison considering Apple are currently using the courts to get their own way too. Oh and Jobs had Pixar around long enough for them to start making movies and end up under Disney so I guess that's part of his possible legacy gone (I don't think many people know Jobs bought Pixar years n years ago)

Steve Jobs has died http://goo.gl/GdtqR

http://blogs.wsj.com...s-as-apple-ceo/ Steve Jobs resigned. Given that he has been regarded as one of the meanest CEO's in the business I doubt he will be missed much by his staff. He's been on deaths door for the last half-decade so I image they're also pretty well set up to deal with him not being around. Tim Cook has pretty much being acting-CEO for most of that time already so the transition will be pretty smooth. Since Jonathan Ive was pretty much the guy who designed most of the stuff I'm sure they won't run out of new products. And the lawyers and photoshoppers are still around so Apple will be able to continue competing with Android too. All in all I don't think this will change much as a company, but the public perception will shift a bit since I think a fair few think Jobs designs and magics iPads and iPhones out of thin air himself. I suggest keeping an eye on this page. edit: lol https://twitter.com/#!/9GAG/status/106511090271264769
