  1. And Altair n Ezio just happen to have hidden 21st century tech lying around to grant them their skills too? The animus rapidly trains him how to use his skills, doesn't imbue him with anything he didn't have. Bear in mind he's sat inside it, not exactly the best way to exercise your muscles for fast reflexes n the like.
  2. Apart from James McAvoy he's the only actor I recognised. He's also the one who introduces Hank McCoy in the character trailer. So I guess he's the government guy sympathetic to the mutant cause. (also wasn't he in X3?) edit: nope on the X3 thing. He's credited as "Man in Black" for First Class though. Also Kevin Bacon is Sebastian Shaw? I thought Sebastian Shaw was a heavily built guy?
  3. So I've got Dwarf Therapist mostly figured out. I hear you can make pre-made job roles, so I'm going to have a shot at that in the future. My trading went fine, though I think I fucked up the liaison part. Since last posting I even traded with elves. Mr Goh has a brewer named after him, and since last posting Malicious has become a legendary miner. (along with Neostarr ) I had a little "immigrants have arrived" pop up, and checked by status to see how much. I'd gone up by one. While later I noticed a bunch of dwarfs milling around in the dining hall, which is where I found out that it had only gone up by one because that's all that had walked onto the screen at the time. I had gained 22 new dwarfs, more than doubling how many I have. So having to rapidly churn out beds and bedrooms as well as find things for these guys to do. My current problem is that I have no iron. All I'm getting is ...can't remember what but it makes Zinc. Also I wish I could just set my jeweller to auto-cut gems. I have to set them manually since each individual gem type is considered a single job.
  4. Okay, when you said "Spiderbots" I was expecting somthing a bit bigger n more impressive.
  5. Well stopped for now cos the first caravan has arrived. I've saved the game then backed it up, so that should it all go to shit with the trade system again I can have another crack at it. As for a brewer, don't have anyone in that official capacity yet (still wrapping my head around Dwarf Therapist) but when I do. Also I have some carp nearby, but can't seem to figure out how to make dwarves go fish. Which means at the moment I have zippo in terms of meat n fish.
  6. Yeah. Also Malicious you're a miner. Cos of Minecraft n shiz.
  7. Anyone want any Dwarfs named after them? I've got 2 Farmers (one already has a name since I had two dwarfs called Amost), a jeweller/leather worker, two miners, a carpenter and a mason. The mason is taken too. This is to live in the fortress of Pagedanced. I won't be doing any stories or such, but I might do any updates if you do anything eventful. Like die, go mad, kill something decent, or be "taken by a strange mood"
  8. These were classic when I was younger. (moved it since I realised it'd make more sense here)
  9. So I squired it. Gave it a spin. Yeah this game could have really done with a slight tweak in marketing and market. If it was $20 it'd have been a sure fire purchase with what I've seen. But this is not a full $60 title.
  10. Nintendo had the antidote all along. This isn't suspicious at all.
  11. Anon are at civil war. There's various senior members trying to take control of the organization (while it is technically leaderless there are still many website they own to organize stuff n run things) It's already been said that a few anon members are saying it's probably pretty likely it was some Anon members that hacked the PSN, even though as a group they're declaring they didn't do it. As the article said they have been pretty functional. The wikileaks stuff really spurred them on. I guess the PSN stuff maybe was the hair on the camels back.
  12. I'm making a game. There's only one way you can win, and upto now ther would be 4 ways to die, but the engine is refusing to let me kill people. Stupid sentient engine.

Secret project. You'll know in about a month. If I don't give up on it before then.

Oh it's nothing big. Just a minor project I've been meaning to do for years.

  13. Howdy. The name Panic Driver rings a bell. But no solid impression in my mind. Welcome, enjoy your stay.
  14. This rolled into my playlist. Hadn't before. Was weird, thought I'd share.
  15. http://steamcommunity.com/id/Sheikah88 - nope it didn't make the Steam account. And if it had you could always just sign in, choose "Forgot password" and it'll send it to your email account.
  16. How do you not have access to Steam?
  17. Police stations, car workshops etc are required to get a entertainment license if they have a radio playing as it is considered a public performance(since it can be heard by the public). So...yeah, I reckon we probably have a similar rule with the movies n laptops too.
  18. From what I've seen and heard, it's a £15 title, £20 at best. And not a full blown £40 game it's vying to be. It's heavily reliant on MP which drastically reduces the appeal. You'd need to be a guaranteed big hitter like CoD to be reliant on MP at that price.
  19. It only takes years to learn to speak because as animals we're born prematurely by several years. I don't want to hurt feelings or anything but this is one of the most retarded things I've heard. At most I feel you're making a reference to http://xkcd.com/435/ But even then it has jack all to do with programming or the topic at hand. Your hypothetical world is just that though, entirely hypothetical. The reason we use the languages we do instead of using computer code is because it's so malleable. It's why it can be used in creative endeavours; you can do puns, make things rhyme, alliteration etc. Computer coding, logic circuits are rigid systems and inflexible. They need to be. And even if from birth you were taught programming you're still being taught it. You pick up English, drawing, music naturally. For the more complex stuff, yeah you need to be taught, but the regular normal stuff you pick up through exposure. Playing games for over a decade, wouldn't know where the hell to start with making one. Also infants can't walk or hold down their meals, nevermind talk. I think it's a bit unfair to drag the required skill level down to "what toddlers can't do" level when they can't even take a shit unaided.
  20. You guys don't have Gurning?

The hell is a Gurning. That sounds like a bad stomach virus or something.

I don't even know what to say about the fact that you have a word for that...

  21. Thing is if I had a PC version of Portal 2 on disc to lend him, he'd be absolutely fine. But because I can't it's suddenly wrong. I legally own Portal 2, it's not like I'm lending him a pirated copy of game (like with Borderlands ). See that's the thing, he was fine with grabbing my "demo" of Borderlands, and he stayed up all night playing to completion. But he's offended that I'd even suggest he do similar with Portal 2.
  22. So here's one for you. I've got Portal 2 on PS3 n Steam. I have 2 housemates, both with gaming PC's and Tom with a PS3. Now Tom has borrowed and completed Portal 2 on PS3. Ben has made signs that he'd like to borrow Portal 2, but lacking a PS3 he's a bit stumped on that. As you're all aware Steam, and most PC games, aren't exactly as easy to lend as console titles. So I said if he wanted to "borrow" my PC copy I could just grab a copy off the net. He wouldn't have any of it. I pointed out how he's not going to be paying for it either way, whether it was possible to lend my game or not. He'd be fine with a borrowed PS3 copy, but because the Portal 2 copy would be "pirated/cracked" it's a no no. It was certainly nothing to do with it being on PC since I borrowed Toms copy of Witcher before buying my own. And we've all used Bens copy of HoMM:V before with cracks to play on LAN. He point seems to be because I can't share it out, I shouldn't. I just told him how in a decades time he'll be eating his words when more things become digital. tbh I'm thinking he's just not wanting to play Portal 2, but it seems odd since he's definitely made gestures suggesting he does. Also his anti-piracy stance is pretty new, since he's been fine with it in the past. He'd managed to play all the way through borderlands before he got it on steam for one. Anyway, what are others peoples thoughts on this matter? Would you borrow PC version of Portal 2 if in his place?
  23. You implied as much saying that the pieces were to be made 'ornately'. Your chess pieces could be rough hewn chunks of rock, doesn't matter to the merit of the work you went on to describe. Just correcting that art doesn't have to look pretty, and something that is pretty isn't art. I know it's an art installation, didn't realise I had to point out it wasn't a government installation or whatever And in your example the artist didn't make the chess set. In programming the programmer is making the beet bottle though. You can't just get 3D modellers. No programming, no engine, no game mechanics, no game. One day that programming language may exist, but for now it's a pretty long way off. But in the here and now it is still limited to only a handful of people. It's hardly the greatest form of expression if you can't actually use it. A book with grammar badly, art not be, compile he said not? As for incorrect spelling, you seemed to figure out I meant installation easy enough. It would be bad, but it wouldn't mean it won't "compile" in peoples heads. And whose to say you made a film with low exposure on purpose. I didn't at all say that people would be instantly highly skilled at it, just that should anyone strike upon the fancy, there is zero entry level involved. They might be naturally skilled, they probably won't. But with game creation you need to be highly skilled to even be bad at it. If you're not skilled you can't be anything at it. To get good at say..painting, you can experiment, you can practice, you can get formal training, look at and be inspired by other works. Can't really do anything but the formal training with games. Can't just open up Eclipse, jam in some random words and *poof* minecraft. Just as a quick example but out drawing thread is going relatively strong, we've got a bunch of short stories in literary creativity, I think we've even got a photo thread somewhere. But the make a games thread is stuck at the "we have an idea". There's very little way for the regular Joe to make a VG idea become realisation. Also how come on one hand 'art can be good and bad', but on the other 'oh well if you're not trained it'll suck and won't be art"? @hot heart: Punk would disagree with you. And very loudly too
