  1. Details here: http://www.vg247.com/2011/06/08/wii-u-details-emerge-25gb-media-single-controller-support-no-classic-controls-more/ Basically: -25 GB disc capacity, external HDD support, no word on internal storage size -It's confirmed that you can only use 1 controller per console. You can't even buy the controller by itself. From another bit: http://www.vg247.com/2011/06/08/iwata-wii-u-likely-to-be-priced-at-250/ Likely to cost more than $250. Yeah, I'm sorry but no sale for me. There's no point in focusing so much on the controller when only one player can use it. That's just stupid.
  2. Just want to throw into the mix that console gaming is getting increasingly less accessible. These days I can't pop in a new PS3 game without getting a damn "UPDATE NAO LOLZ" splash screen followed by 10 minutes of NOT playing the game I just bought. The "console gaming is far simpler than PC gaming" thing was probably very true in the SNES days, but not today. Today all I really have to do when I get a new PC game is download it from Steam, boot it up, and get to playing. Since I got my new PC last August I haven't had any of those issues that make me "fix" my PC for days on end, and considering the fact that I literally got my PC parts from a prescribed list without me having to think at all if any of them were compatible, I'm completely confident in saying PC gaming is FAR more accessible now than it has ever been.
  3. Wait, we can use external HDDs? Link for that? I'd love a confirmation of this EDIT: Just realized you got this from Dean's post , so now I'm directing that question at Dean.
  4. Wow, what? So we aren't going to be able to use up to 4 controllers? That...actually sucks really, really bad. I was at least hoping for a Zelda Four Swords Gamecube type experience where each player can get their own screen as well. Also, does anyone know if the 1080p will be native? Because if yes, that'd be mighty nice and if upscaled it will be mighty lame.
  5. *sigh* Disappointed. TBH I don't even know why I was starting to have faith in Nintendo again in the first place :/

Its not releasing for at least another year, they'll reveal proper games for it next year.

I don't know why you expect anything from the big three.

  6. It's kind of neat tech, but I'm not impressed overall. They did a horrendous job at the initial sales pitch, switching between saying "controller" and "console", not showing the actual console, initially showing Wii-level graphics, etc. For the longest time I thought this was just another add-on. I only realized that it was a new console when they started showing current-gen 3rd party titles, but to be honest that wasn't a good way for me to find out. Showing games that will be freely available (or in the case of Dirt 3, ALREADY are available) on the 360, PS3 and PC isn't doing anything to sell me on spending more money on a new Nintendo console. Show me something completely new, don't try to sell me on something I can already buy for my other platforms. All in all, it wasn't bad, but it was ultimately disappointing. I wasn't expecting Nintendo to show off much, but what they did show was doing just the bare minimum for me. They're only now catching up with the 360, a console released in 2005. That's nothing to be proud of. The potential is there due to the touchscreen controller but "potential" doesn't sell for me. I need to see games. Real games, that WILL be released, that DO look good, that DO release and are sitting there on the shelves. Until that happens I'm not jumping on any bandwagons.
  7. Looks like Sony caught Nintendo with their pants down. I know Nintendo charged $250 for the 3DS pretty much just because they could (they literally said that of the launch price in Japan at least), probably overly confident that Sony wasn't directly wanting to compete with them, meaning they were going to charge more than whatever Nintendo did by default. Little did they know, Sony now shows up to the party with a handheld that's FAR better in hardware quality (IMO at least) at the exact same price. I doubt they'll outsell the 3DS (people love Ninty handhelds WAY too much for that to happen), but damn is Sony calling out on Nintendo's cockiness. This is giving me brief flashbacks to 1995 when Nintendo thought they'd own with the N64 just by having it exist. Also gives me flashbacks to the days when Sony was actually competitive with its pricing. Haven't seen that in a while.
  8. Not interested in neither Halo nor Gears of War. Suffice to say, I found MS"s conference pretty much worthless to me. :/

      VicariousShaner

I enjoy both of those and it was also worthless to me. Tim Schafer redeemed it a bit though. Monster is GOTY.

Poor Rocky. Thrown in with the good taste crowd, and nothing to see. Not much of a surprise at an MS conference, though. ;]

  9. Kind of, but it made the whole "What's on the menu is not what Shepard says" is made all the more jarring by this. To be honest, I would prefer it if they would give you the option of making Shepard a mute, so that you speak what's on the menu and that's that. None of this "speak, then hear Shepard say something completely different" thing. That doesn't make it more immersive at all
  10. Didn't want a Kinect before this E3, don't want one now. It was only used in core games as an inconsequential gimmick, the casual-based games didn't interest me in the least bit, and the pseudo-core games developed for it (Fable, Star Wars) felt shallow and on-rails. Still no reason to buy one. The hype for Kinect in this year's conference felt completely hollow, because despite MS spending the better part of the conference on it they didn't announce anything with it that was of interest IMO. Bah, oh well. I predicted MS's conference was gonna suck anyway, so with the low-point of E3 out of the way now it's all uphill from here
  11. So I "finished" the Shivering Isles expansion for Oblivion (at least the main's quest, which I guess is the closest thing you can get to in terms of "finishing" the game other than 100%-ing it). Holee shit. Such an awesome everything. Setting, characters, quests, events, etc. Really freaking good. Got back into my Oblivion mojo too, so I totally had a blast and reminded me very well why I was so excited for Skyrim in the first place (I was beginning to forget ) CAN'T WAIT FOR FREAKING SKYRIM.
  12. Fucking hell. I'm gonna miss the Ninty conference >:|. Is there any site that will record the broadcast for later viewing? <_<

Didn't Ninty post it on their website last year?

  13. There is currently no demo, because as of yet my plans for global domination haven't extended that far. Even a small micro-nation in Indonesia. This is why I hate typing on laptops. One note to other who might check the demos of Wipeout and Stardust: try not to have them on your PS3 when you select them as the game you want to get. I selected the 'Get Now' option like you were supposed to, and I'm having a memory lapse about what happened after. The end result is that the option to get a free PS3 game is now gone, Stardust and Wipeout no longer say 'demo', but their content isn't unlocked from the demo. That's weird, because I had the WipeOut HD demo before this and when I redeemed the first free game all I had to do was download the unlock code and the Fury expansion and played the full version without a problem.
  14. Hey Dean, just wanna follow up that I bought inFAMOUS about 3 weeks ago and played it again. Something just clicked for me, because I couldn't put it down and had a fucking blast with it. REALLY good game.
  15. Kotaku doesn't piss me off NEARLY as much as Ars Technica. Most anything they post regarding Sony's a fucking joke. Fucking bunch of retarded monkeys with an ax to grind. Never before have I seen such an infantile, irrational hatred delivered by the sites EDITORS. What's worse is the comments section. Fucking bunch of monkies. They make Joystiq's commenters look dignified and intelligent by comparison

  16. Playing through Shivering Isles is reminding me why I think Oblivion is fucking fantastic, and is cementing my excitement for Skyrim :D

I'll be happy if they remove/fix level-scaling. Aside from that... I dunno. Something about Oblivion just felt empty wrt the Elder Scrolls series.

  17. I think you might be confusing the introduction of new gameplay mechanics as an overly-long tutorial. I'm not against the constant introduction of new gameplay mechanics at all. In fact, carefully dripping new mechanics to the player makes for a very well paced experience. I think what's bothersome to a lot of people is when the game takes an excruciating amount of time explaining the basics of gameplay, rather than the introduction of new mechanics as time goes on. Then again that's my personal viewpoint, so I probably shouldn't speak for everybody here
  18. And I was just thinking to myself "who was the bastard who minus-repped this well-thought out post? >" I pos-repped it to counter yours
  19. If it doesn't work out call the circus and say you've got something for them. Don't tell them what, and be sure to not be there when they come over. Leave the door unlocked and let them follow the trail of paper, floor piss, and half-shaven pubes. They oughta find him in less than 20 seconds.
  20. Ever feel like you crave to play a certain genre, but you can't think of any game you have/can get that would actually satisfy that craving? I'm getting that. With RPGs. I sad.

Maybe with RTS's as of late.

SO WHEN YOU GETTIN' LIVE FOR BANJO, EH?

  21. I think it depends on what tutorials we're talking about. If we're talking about extremely basic things that the game expects you to know 20 minutes in, there's no reason to expect the player to go read the manual. For instance, I heard that Wither 2 doesn't tell you that you get extra damage if you're hit from the back, and if that's the case that really should be outlined in the game somewhere, especially since all it takes is just a two-line pop up saying "YO. HIT FROM BACK = 200 DAMAGE YA HEAR??" If it's more in-depth stuff such as advanced tactics, etc., yes it would probably be better if it were in the manual. Mostly because manuals are nowadays distressingly thin on content, but also because packing the game itself with "Pro Tips" that the player may or may not even want is also shitty in itself.
  22. Want a good laugh? Head on over to GameTrailers and check out their "Dirt 3 comparison video". Then check out what PC rig they're using for for the PC platform comparison. You will laff. Then rage. Then laff again.

    1. TheMightyEthan

      TheMightyEthan

The rig ran the game fine and they were using "ultra" settings, I don't see the problem there...

I do see a problem in their shitty compression negating the primary graphical advantage of PCs in multiplat titles like that: antialiasing.

  23. I'm having WAY too much fun with Far Cry 2. Apparently it's all the rage to do a "perma-death" run of the game, which I've been doing. Funtimes to be had are plenty.

Agreed about the voice acting. I don't think I've ever heard an entire cast of voice actors not give a shit about their job this bad.

once you learn not to drive on the roads that game is awesome. Also, buy the manuals for the cars so you don't have to repair them all the time.

    4. Mr W Phallus

      Mr W Phallus

'once you learn not to drive on the roads that game is awesome.' The words counter-intuitive come to mind. If I'd bought the game, rather than renting it, I would probably have found the patience to enjoy the SP, but since I had a limited amount of time I gave up on the SP a few hours in to maximise the amount of enjoyment I could have.

  24. Finished Trauma Center: Under the Knife 2. Eh. Mediocre sequel. I'd wager about 80% of the content was shamelessly recycled from the first game, and even the stuff that was new was pretty damn underwhelming. The new art style was also something I never got used to, and the soundtrack I felt was better in the first. I can't actually think of anything that I felt was better than the first.
