I would like to point out that I was born *after* the moon landing...wait, that probably sounds even worse.

  2. I want one good console game with drop-in/drop-out meaningful co-op, that allows split-screen and multiplayer (at the same time, even). Something like Borderlands or Dungeon Siege III. (Had Dungeon Siege III had both good local and good online multiplayer.) Hopefully that's enough of a heads up for Santa, since December's still a ways away. (Related note: Was bummed to see Borderlands doesn't allow split screen and co-op simultaneously.)

  4. You don't want to try to get your head around a 6.0+...it falls under the category of life experiences no one wants to have if they can avoid it... We're heading back to Japan at the end of this week, and I am a bit nervous about it.
  5. I'm here you to offer a second opinion and answer any questions people might have about this controller. First, my impressions are as follows: I definitely wish it was bigger. I have a silicon grip on my main 360 controller, and while I still wish my 360 controller was bigger, the 360 with a silicon grip is a better fit for my hands than the Onza The face buttons minimal travel distance and resistance with a nice audable click are amazing, but I wish they were ever so slightly farther apart from each other. The d-pad as four individual buttons is a great idea for games where you're using the d-pad for inventory management, weapon selection and the like, but I can't imagine using the d-pad to actually control a character in any game outside of Pac-Man. (Where the ease in specifically choosing one of four directions might actually be helpful.) The shoulder buttons are small, since there two shoulder buttons instead of one, and they travel a bit more than I'd like, especially since all the other buttons are so great. The triggers seem great, and have reduced a travel distance compared to the 360's stock controller. The placement of the start and back button take getting used to. While game where back is used frequently (BFBC2) you can map back to one of the shoulder buttons, but in a game like COD where it's not really a good use of a button map, it'll take time to get used to and probably be slower than the normal 360 controller. I haven't mentioned the adjustable tension until now because I haven't really played around with it that much. My friend, who uses kontrol freaks for COD, is getting the Vipr Black, which supposedly work with the Onza...the idea of a kontrol freak attached with increased tension sounds like a potentially great combination and something I may try out as well...I just haven't yet. The travel on the triggers probably means it's not the best controllers for racing games, the d-pad isn't something you'd want to use for a fighting game, and the controller's not perfect, but it is a fantastic controller, and I'm very satisfied with it. If they came out with a larger sized Razer Onza TE, I'd probably buy (another) one.
  6. This is going to be something I notice all the time... I'm offline while I'm the states with my parents, and I've been catching up on single player games (Batman:AA, Mirror's Edge, Alan Wake), and planning to finish up ME and replay ME2 with a ME save...I'm sure my Male Shepard's Canadian accent will be something I notice now...
  7. Placed an order after extending the trip for a week because of the nuclear and earthquake issues still ongoing in Japan. My order shipped ahead of schedule, so I will actually get my hands on an Onza in April after all. I am very excited. :-)
  8. I'm jealous. I'm in the states for another few weeks, and I'd order one NOW if I thought it would show up before I leave...but it looks like they won't be shipping quickly anytime soon....
  9. Dean, this made me laugh out loud. And since I don't have XKCD, or any of my other webcomics, bookmarked on the work laptop I brought to the states with me, I'm glad you shared it, as I wouldn't have seen it for a while afterwards. As for the quakes. Man, very disturbing. A few hours ago it'd been 644 earthquakes since the big one on the 11th. Tokyo drinking water deemed unsafe for children, significant levels of radiation being found in areas outside the Japanese government's 30km radius, food crops being destroyed due to radiation, tsunami warnings continuing for many of the larger aftershocks off the coast, rolling blackouts that will likely last until next summer due to the number of power plants taken off line... I'm very glad have my family safely overseas right now, but there are multiple, serious, long term issues that tens of millions of people are dealing with over there right now, including the substantially elevated risk of very large earthquakes continuing to kill people and damage property. Scary times.
  10. Was hoping they'd ship to Japan. Now that I'm in the states for the next few weeks, I've ordered Mirror's Edge and ME2 for $20 each. (I've already played ME2, but I was borrowing it from a friend, and I want to have the additional DLC content in addition to being able to play it whenever I want.)
  11. OK...seriously...what's up with the ending of the normal game? Spoilers: What's with the, "It's not a lake, it's an ocean"? And I've heard that the DLC is good...but what's good, the story or the gameplay or both? The gameplay doesn't seem all that spectacular, but I was really digging the story, especially the last 50-99% of the game. The ending felt anticlimactic, confusing, and as a result, somewhat unsatisfying. Has the DLC ever gone on sale? I may wait for it to go on sale and pick it up that way. Not even sure what it costs, but I did enjoy the game...I just wouldn't put it in consideration for GOTY.
  12. Whoo. Made our flights, in Florida with the parents for the next few weeks. Finally had time to play a game, and actually got around to finishing Alan Wake. What? The ending the first 98% of episodes 4-6 were great, but the ending was super anticlimatic. Did I miss something?

Honestly, play into the two DLC chapters. Better gameplay than anything in the retail levels.

I didn't think the conclusion was that great

his wife's safe but he's stuck in the dark place. Great. I really feel like the story has concluded.

. The DLC helps, honestly, it feels much more finished after the two specials.

  13. Holy Crap...what's wrong with me. I started doing a little jig because there was an earthquake in Chiba just now, and I wanted to move around so I didn't feel the shaking. I had an epiphany that I was basically doing same thing as the "Panic Dance" from Ghost Trick. Once I realized that, I tried to copy it as best I could. It's nice to have a bit videogame humor mixed in with my terror...

Thanks, you two. The nice comments, and my brain's levity in what is a truly frighting situation, actually do have a bit of a calming effect.

Out the door tomorrow morning on a long trek to Narita (because the express train is down), and looking forward to being able to breathe easy for a change...

Be safe okay, and after you make sure the family is alright you can help people in need.

  14. Ha! Sorry to have been so off-base in my assessment, but I'm glad you ended up liking Miles Edgeworth as much as you did.

And Ghost Trick, yes, I would be happy to hear about a sequel, and it might be better suited for some 3DS 3D than most games. :-)

  15. I've had my fill of very strong aftershocks, scheduled blackouts, reactor explosion, radiation fears, product/fuel shortages and unpredictable train schedules... I went ahead and picked up tickets for my family and I to go stay with my parents in Florida on Friday for a few weeks. Looking forward to the change of scenery.

  16. http://morgsatlarge.wordpress.com/2011/03/13/why-i-am-not-worried-about-japans-nuclear-reactors/ Like that read, which I read last night when I could not fall asleep. It actually helped me be a bit less stressed, even though I'm far enough away that the reactors are low on the list of things I'm worried about affecting my family. Interested bike ride to and from a Shibuya meeting today. Was not affected by the first day of blackouts, as they only targeted part of group 5. We're group 4 or 5, but the Kawasaki part of group 5 wasn't blacked out, so we still don't know if we're 4 or 5. (Our street is split between two parts of the grid, so my building was blacked out for several hours on the quake day, while the building on the same street next to us wasn't...one's group 4, one's group 5) Edit: Just saw this in the Newsfeed: http://www.vg247.com/2011/03/13/ffxi-ffxiv-metal-gear-online-servers-offline/ FFXI, FFXIV, Metal Gear Online servers offline Japan-hosted multiplayer servers are being shut down to conserve power in the wake of the earthquake and associated nuclear power plant damage.
  17. Can you share the link? That sounds interesting to read about. I've been a bit out of the loop over the last few days, and couldn't find it in the recent Newsfeed. That's very cool. Thanks for sharing that.
  18. The 11th was definitely a stressful day. But a long walk home (currently very grateful that I live a few hours walk from home) and about 6 hours of no water of electricity or water for my family was the worst of the after effects for us. I can't imagine what it's like anywhere in the hardest hit parts of the country... The aftershocks are unbelievable. You can see a list of the last week's worth of earthquakes here: http://www.jma.go.jp/en/quake/quake_singendo_index.html Normally, there's a dozen or so earthquakes, the vast majority of which are too small for anyone to feel. In the last day and a half, following the 8.9, there have been the follow +M6.0 earthquakes: 08:39 JST 13 Mar 2011 M6.2 08:35 JST 13 Mar 2011 M6.2 08:29 JST 13 Mar 2011 M6.2 07:22 JST 13 Mar 2011 M6.0 07:17 JST 13 Mar 2011 M6.0 23:50 JST 12 Mar 2011 M6.1 23:47 JST 12 Mar 2011 M6.1 22:25 JST 12 Mar 2011 M6.0 22:19 JST 12 Mar 2011 M6.0 05:17 JST 12 Mar 2011 M6.1 04:55 JST 12 Mar 2011 M6.4 04:52 JST 12 Mar 2011 M6.4 04:03 JST 12 Mar 2011 M6.6 03:16 JST 12 Mar 2011 M6.0 00:24 JST 12 Mar 2011 M6.2 00:17 JST 12 Mar 2011 M6.6 21:20 JST 11 Mar 2011 M6.0 21:18 JST 11 Mar 2011 M6.1 20:41 JST 11 Mar 2011 M6.4 17:52 JST 11 Mar 2011 M6.0 17:23 JST 11 Mar 2011 M6.7 17:15 JST 11 Mar 2011 M6.4 16:34 JST 11 Mar 2011 M6.6 16:20 JST 11 Mar 2011 M6.8 16:02 JST 11 Mar 2011 M6.1 15:32 JST 11 Mar 2011 M7.2 15:24 JST 11 Mar 2011 M7.4 15:17 JST 11 Mar 2011 M7.0 Most off those are out in the ocean, but not all. The most recent quake that would have been a news story overseas on it's own is a 6.6 from early yesterday morning was right over Nagano and Niigata: I wrote up a long detailing of my Friday for my friends and family. I wrote in bed before going to sleep on Friday night. It's very long, my parents printed it out, and I think they said it was 15 8.5x11" pages... But if anyone's interested, I wouldn't be opposed to sharing it here...just lemme know.
  19. Family all OK. Life returning to a semblance of normalcy, which will hopefully mean a return to commenting here. :-)

  20. Keep reading from my cell phone, planning to reply to multiple things when get back to my PC...just a bit too busy with work and family at the moment.

  21. Cool find. That's on my "interested" list now. I wonder how tough it would be for Suge9 to get Vanguard Princess on XBLA/PSN in it's current form...that's a game I'd definitely pay for with online multiplayer.
  22. Does anyone know what a game publisher has to pay to Microsoft and/or Sony when they release a disc game with a reduced MSRP? For example, SSFIV was sold for $40 instead of $60, but do Sony and Microsoft still take the same amount per disc? That might explain why people want to sell $60 games (with more expensive special editions on top of that) instead of $40 games, if they're actually getting less than 2/3rds of the revenue when selling games for 2/3rds of the price...
  23. Enjoying Alan Wake enough...but feeling like I've gone a few days too many without some form of multiplayer gaming.

I don't think it did at launch :/ however, they did bundle it in the 360 S pack with Forza 3 was it? Hopefully that helped Remedy a lot. I think a sequel could easily be a far better game than AW itself; the DLC was phenomenal in comparison with the retail game.

  24. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Date_format_by_countryRoughly 2 billion people are used to Month Day, either preceded or followed by the year. Roughly 3.5 billion people are used to Day Month, although I'm not sure how accurate that is, as Australia is listed as DMY, and my coworker tells me that's not the case. (That may be due in part to him living in Japan, perhaps, like English, which has the occasional usage of December 7, 1941 ("December the seventh, nineteen forty-one") Australia also has all-numeric dates invariably ordered dd/mm/yyyy...he could be wrong about mm/dd/yyyy, but like I said, he says otherwise. Go, go, Japan and China...those guys have the YMD thing already figured out.
  25. Don't forget that Microsoft bought Rare, and I can see some of the Killer Instinct cast fitting in well in a Mortal Kombat game. Actually, Orchid's "flash" finishing move would fit in well with Mortal Kombat. A fatality with immature nudity for the sake of nudity to go along with fatalities filled with over the top violence and gore for the sake of violence and gore. Not sure if Rare/Microsoft would want a KI character in MK, but I think that'd be a better match than any other Microsoft IP I can think of. Tentatively interested in this game, but basically just as something fun to play with a friends online before going back to SSFIV. Even if it turns out to be surprisingly good, I don't see Japan having much of an online community for this game...if it even comes out here.
