  1. Ah, I missed that. Not sure why you think it's such a big deal, though. It's not like they're saying he needs to fix their game. Seems more like an acknowledgement of the guy's past contributions. What? That doesn't even make sense. You build a killer PC then yeah, not every game is going to use it to its full potential. Should every single game be "future proof" like the original Crysis then? Not sure how you're SOL if the game runs smoothly.
  2. It's not giving them a pass so much as managing expectations. This is their first PC port and they've been a completely console-centric developer up until now. I'd say 1080p60fps is a pretty good start for them, assuming the port ends up not having any other problems. Plenty of games come out on both PC and consoles without being limited but I'd wager most of those were developed as PC games first and then ported to consoles. I really don't think that was the case with Rising much like it wasn't with Dark Souls. Can't say I know what you're talking about with the openly promoting an unpaid guy part, though. Did they directly mention Durante or something?
  3. Maybe not but do you really think it's the people with average rigs that are complaining about a 1080p lock?
  4. Oh man, seriously. After transferring all my old PSP games bought off PSN and the Vita PS+ games, there's already a little over 10GBs filled up. If I'd gone with a 16GB it would already be almost full.
  5. Exactly! I can understand when a port is fucking broken or is otherwise sub par but nothing is ever good enough for these people. It's like they don't realize that this is a game that was built from the ground up for systems where it would run at a fixed resolution. This is kinda like complaining that a game isn't running at 100+ fps. Sure, it would be nice but is it really that big of a fucking deal when you're getting a solid 60?
  6. Fuck yes! My student loan for january came in early, so obviously I need to start spending it all like an idiot. It's also partially an early christmas present from my mom. It was a bit out of her price range but I figured I'd cover the difference rather than settle for a smaller one. Less than a month and already the 4GB that came with the system is driving me nuts, so this is a very welcome upgrade. As for the protective film, it was only ten bucks so I figured why the hell not. I'm kind of annoyed by smudges and fingerprints on the screen and I heard good things about these so I grabbed a pack. Also, I guess it's not technically a purchase but I think I mentioned how the Limbo devs had backed out of the cross-buy program for some reason and that I didn't want to rebuy just for the Vita version. Well, last night I shot them an email explaining I've owned the game since launch and all that and they kindly gave me a voucher for the Vita version. So that's pretty cool. Only thing that sucks is that the game's monochrome visuals seriously do not agree with the mura effect OLED screens tend to suffer from. It's not too bad, only a line across the bottom and a smudge in the upper right and it's only visible when the screen is completely black. But with this game it's kind of always visible in some way. :/
  7. Yeah, I get that, but still. It's not like it's 720p or anything. It's less than ideal for sure but hardly what I'd call shitty or broken. There's already a thread on neoGAF calling for Durante (the guy who made the fixes for Dark Souls and Deadly Premonition) to "fix" it, which seems kind of ridiculous to me.
  8. Tried the Vita demo for Terraria. Holy shit, I'm just not feeling it. Not a fan of how it controls at all and, more importantly, they changed that awesome music!

Controls good to me. Did you try the console version? Music seems the same, and it controls just as well, IMHO.

Nah, I'm coming from the PC version. And you're saying the music I linked is the same? Maybe it was just changed for the tutorial or something?

  9. So, people are losing their shit over the PC port not supporting resolutions over 1080p? Yeah, that seems rational...
  10. Then again, Ethan also made a good point about just waiting until the end of a deal before buying. If there's 15mins left and you still haven't received it as a gift, chances are you're not going to.
  11. Looks like he wasn't done, just got Ironclad Tactics as well. Thanks again, man! Also, looks like Steam gifting might be a bit buggy right now. At first, the message I got made it look like he had gifted me Dungeon of the Endless a second time. I closed that window and went to my inventory and only then I saw Ironclad Tactics, with a note that expressed confusion that I hadn't received it alongside Dungeon of the Endless.
  12. Well his note mentions getting it to me early so I don't feel the need to hold off on buying other stuff. Can't fault his logic there. Now I'm thinking of doing the same thing for my target.
  13. Figured we might as well have this thread again. FredEffinChopin got me Dungeon of the Endless. Thanks a lot, man!
  14. Yeah, there's really no reason to gamble on a pre-order here.
  15. I feel you. These games are great but so goddamned long! I got burned out on P3 around the 50 hours mark and didn't touch it again for almost two years. Then I got back into it big time but ended up playing too much of it in too short a time and the same thing happened after 20 more hours. That was about two years ago and I only got around to playing the last ~30 hours in the last few weeks. I don't want the same thing to happen with P4G but I only have about two and a half weeks until the next semester starts and I seriously doubt that's going to be enough time. So, I might not be able to finish it until next summer.
  16. Started playing Persona 4 Golden a few days ago, so I've been pretty much glued to my Vita ever since. This series is seriously like crack. I'm about 16 hours in so I've only begun scratching the surface but I'm starting to get a feel for how everything is going to flow. At first, I was kind of put off by some of the changes from P3. I was disappointed by the lack of a uber dungeon like Tartarus and I thought the premise, setting and characters of 3 were just more interesting overall. Of course, I played P3 for about 4 years on and off, so I probably got attached to those things more than I realized. Everything about 4 has started growing on me by now and the major differences are starting to feel kind of superficial, so that's good. The gameplay is unarguably a massive improvement, though. Pretty much every single thing, however big or small, that bugged me about P3 has been completely fixed. The fast travel menu makes exploration much less of a chore than it was in P3 and having direct control over your party members is fucking glorious. Now I understand why people always recommend playing P3 first because of how hard it is going back to it after P4.
  17. I'm tempted to get Terraria for Vita but I kinda feel like I got everything I'm going to get out of the game from the PC version. I'd probably be more inclined to double-dip if it was cross-buy or if it was cheaper.
  18. Ys I. It's a decent, although painfully archaic, old-school action JRPG. I knew it was supposed to be short but I expected it to be a bit longer than ~6 hours. That's the in-game timer, though. It doesn't count deaths and reloads, so it might have been closer to 8 hours overall. Still short for a JRPG but considering it's a dual pack with Ys II, it's not that bad. The combat is very simplistic. There's no attack button, you just run into the enemies. It works for the most part, but early on it can be kinda frustrating when your max HP is still fairly low and you can't regen yet. There's also a level cap of 10, for some reason. It's cool that they wanted to make the last few boss fights skill-based. You can't just grind and brute force your way through them. But the problem here is what's essentially my biggest issue with the game: it is infuriatingly cryptic at times. There were times where I'd get stuck only to look up a walkthrough and find out I had to do the most random fucking shit with no in-game hints whatsoever. Can't get your first sword until you've spoken to everyone in the first town. This area instakills you but you can disable that by using that hammer you just picked up on this specific pillar on this specific floor of this huge-ass tower you're in right now. And so on. So back to the boss fights. There was one where, even though I was max level, I still couldn't imagine ever defeating him considering how little damage I was dealing him. Looked it up and "oh yeah, you totally need silver gear for this boss. especially the silver sword". So there was this harmonica I'd picked up. I needed to return it to this girl in town, who would then play a song, which would do something to this giant tree way the fuck in the forest. Then I would need to eat this random fruit I found and go talk to the fucking tree. Then the tree gives you the silver sword. Yeah, sure. Might as well have a link to gamefaqs in the tutorial or something...
  19. Eh, might as well use this spot. Guacamelee is on sale this week on PSN so I grabbed the Vita version because why not, game's great and I already 100%'d it on Steam so if I'm going to replay it I might as well get some trophies out of it. Think it's cross-buy, too. Really starting to love that feature.
  20. Oh, man. I can't believe I forgot to mention that. Yeah, the touch controls were all over the place. Some of them I liked: the charcoal rubbings were fitting and added to my immersion. Those were fun. But rubbing dirt off of objects got old after the second time and then it was just kinda stupid. The back touchpad stuff for climbing and paddling was okay but the enjoyment mostly came from the novelty of it, I think. I didn't mind the melee combos but when you have two boss fights that are essentially touch-controlled QTE, that's a bit much. Puzzles were fun, though. But that might just be me, I love puzzles. Oh and physically moving the Vita around to aim with the sniper rifle? That was insanely more fun than I would've ever expected it to be. Other than that, I was up till 5AM last night getting the true ending in 999. That... went on a bit longer than I expected it to. Unfortunately, The big reveal was kinda diminished because, after all the build up to it and the info given in the game, it was easy to figure out considering I had heard that the game "could only work on two screens". But still, it was a really cool idea and a great story, so I can't complain. Can't wait for my copy of Virtue's Last Reward to get here.
  21. Uncharted: Golden Abyss. Like I already said a few posts up, it's surprisingly good for what it is. Not as good as U2 or even U3, but still a worthy entry into the series. It was nice coming back to the series after so long. I hadn't played any of them since U3 first came out, so it had been kind of a while.
  22. Well, to be fair, I was initially disappointed by how little interaction there was. I expected there to be a little bit more choices. Characters would get to an area, go "Okay we can go 4 different ways" and instead of letting me explore they'd just end up discussing it between themselves and choosing where to go. That being said, I don't really have a problem with VNs, as long as the story is good. And this one really is. But yeah, it's hardly a pure VN. It kinda reminds me of Phoenix Wright, if you removed the investigation part and replaced the courtroom with "escape the room" puzzles.
  23. I wasn't initially planning on getting it so soon but I played 999 pretty much the entire evening until like 3 AM last night, going for all the alternate endings, and holy shit that game is fantastic! I only have the true ending left to get, I'll be doing that today. But once I'm done with it, I'm definitely going to want to play the sequel asap.
  24. I haven't finished Golden Abyss yet (though I'm getting very close) and I would also agree with that ranking, with U3 being more of a distant second in my case. GA obviously can't compare with the bigger console outings but it's surprisingly good for a portable entry into a series mostly famous for its story and production values. Back on topic: I did it! It took me like four fucking years but I finally beat Persona 3! I kind of figured i was 10 hours or so from the ending, at most. Turns out it was closer to 30, including a bit of grinding. And man, that final boss. Not insanely difficult but so fucking long. Took me four tries before I beat him, with attempt number 2 and 3 both lasting almost an hour and failing literally a few turns from victory. 2 was caused by a ill-timed status ailment but 3 was entirely my fault. Through inattention, I pretty much did the one thing I shouldn't have done and killed my main character which is instant game over. Not my proudest moment... That's only the original campaign, though. Haven't touched the extra "The Answer" chapter and don't think I will. At least not anytime soon. Now it's time for Persona 4!
  25. Hexcells and Hexcells Plus. It's kind of a cross between minesweeper and, uh... sudoku, I guess? Kind of. You're not actually placing numbers, it plays mostly identical to minesweeper. But the information given for you to deduce which hexes you can remove is a bit more complex. Anyway, I saw it featured on RPS a while back and thought it looked cool. Voted for it on Greenlight and promptly forgot about it. Then I saw it featured on RPS again last night since a standalone expansion just came out. I looked it up and it's still not greenlit but the page says the dev will provide Steams keys once it is, so I figured what the hell and grabbed the base game from the Humble Store. It's pretty fun but not very long. I blasted through the entire thing in only a couple hours. it's only 3$, though, so I have no complaint whatsoever there. The problem with the base game is it's kind of on the easy side. It gets pretty challenging near the end but by then you're pretty much already done with it. That's where Hexcells Plus comes in. It's also only 3$ but it's very much aimed at those who already beat the original. I'm only about 10 puzzles in and I'm already left staring blankly at the screen, trying to figure out what the next logical move is. If you like logic puzzles, I strongly recommend checking it out.
